- A straightforward prisoner transport job turns into an increasingly dangerous, yet oddly invigorating, odyssey for Dan.
- Dan gets deeper into a Mexican/Russian mob war trying to resolve things. In the final showdown, everyone dies when the bullets start flying - including Maze, who tried to help Dan out by bringing a Russian bookkeeper wanted dead by the Mexicans to the meeting.—Gislef
- Dan wakes up to his alarm, makes breakfast, exercises, combs his hair, and goes to work. Lucifer comes up behind him and points out that Dan has been staring at the same file for ten minutes, and Dan points out that they're little "insult dance" has changed since he knows that Lucifer is the Devil. Lucifer insists that nothing has changed and they're both the same people, Dan points out that the it's like being teased by Darth Vader and Genghis Khan, and an offended Lucifer storms off in a huff, saying that he's not a villain.
Lucifer goes over to Chloe and complains, and she tells Lucifer that he has to give Dan some time to deal with the truth. She isn't sympathetic with Lucifer that Dan isn't participating in they're little insult dance that proves they're friends, and Lucifer says that he's not hurt. He asks if they have a case to solve, and Chloe shows him an extradition case of a gangbanger. Chloe points out that they're understaffed and they have to do grunt work, and Lucifer looks over at Dan.
When Lucifer gives the case, Dan immediately accepts it figuring the drive will give him a chance to think about things. As Dan goes, Chloe approaches him and reminds him that Luios Navarro is the processing officer at the other end, and he's crooked like Dan used to be. Dan says that he'll handle it even though they were friends and Luis liked to cut corners and play angles. She figures that Dan doesn't need someone like Luis around, and Dan assures her that he's fine.
Dan drives to Mexico and goes to a bar, and he and Luis hug. When Dan asks why they're not meeting at the police station, Luis claims that there was a screwup in the paperwork and won't be discharged until the next morning. He's got Dan a room in a nearby hotel, and suggests they have some drinks for all old times while they get caught up. Luis claims that he's turned himself around and wants to get some advice from Dan, and Dan reluctantly agrees to one drink.
The two men drink, and Luis asked what changed for Dan. Dan says that he got in over his head and realized that his actions have consequences. He had a moment of clarify, and talks about finding out that God and the Devil are real and it makes someone worry. When Luis wonders if Dan is talking about the soul, Dan says that it's worse because it means God is fallible and then how could anything matter. Luis suggests that the two of them partner on a deal to run "mystic Aztec crystals" up to LA.
Dan says that he's not into it anymore, and Luis dismisses it as just a bad idea. He calls over his new partner Benito, who has a bottle of tequila. Dan reluctantly joins in as Luis plies him with drinks.
The next morning, Dan wakes up with a hangover and finds himself naked in a bed with Benito's bloody corpse next to him. Still naked, Dan goes to the bar and wakes up Luis, who is dozing in a booth, and says that they need help. Dan tells Luis that Benito is dead, and Luis tells him to think it through rather than call the murder in. When Dan insists that he didn't kill anyone even if he doesn't remember what happened the previous night, Luis says that he knows who did murder Benito.
Luis explains that the risk on the crystals wasn't as low as he implied, and he was hoping Dan would replace the Russian mob in LA that he's working with. He figures the Russians hit Benito the previous night, and admits that he owes them $200,000. Luis was going to pay them after he doubled his money better in a horse race later that day. Dan says that it's the most reckless thing Luis has done, and Luis tells him that he didn't think the Russian mob would kill his partner. Luis figures that Dan can handle it because he knows the Russian mob. Dan doesn't want to get involved, and tells Luis to turn himself in so his people will protect him. Luis says that half of the local police are on a gangster's payroll, and says that the mob will come after his family. He asks Dan to just deliver the money to the mob. By the time Dan delivers the banger, Luis will have the money ready.
Dan agrees and takes the banger, Camila, with him back to the States. She notices the box on the front seat with the money and asks what's in it. He tells her to stop talking about it, and Camila figures that it's something illegal. Dan insists that it's the opposite of corrupt and he doesn't have any demons, and Camila figures that he's talking metaphorically. Camila claims that she turned it around with God's help, and Dan should get out of it by finding God. Dam laughs and says that he's found God, and God exploded his body because he slept with God's wife.
Camila says that god helped her, and Dan tells her that she has to be careful because he's learned things and life has a way of blindsiding someone. A truck blindsides them, knocking Dan out. When he wakes up, Dan finds himself inside the wrecked car, with Camila and the box gone. Dan confirms that his phone is dead, and spots a car driving toward him. Ryan and Kevin from Dan's improv are inside, and Ryan says that they're driving back from a show at a community center.
Dan tells them that he's been busy lately, and that he was ambushed by a gang. Ryan asks if Dan needs some help, and Dan asks if he could get a ride.
Later, Lucifer is in his penthouse playing piano when Dan comes in. Dan tells Lucifer that he needs a favor, and Lucifer pours himself a drink and laughs when Dan tells him what happened. Dan says that Camila was rescued by her gang, and he knows where they hang out at a bike shop in Van Nuys. When Lucifer points out that Dan can call in his fellow police, Dan says that the gang took something of him. Lucifer figures that it's drugs, and Dan explains that it's money he was paying off.
Dan wonders if God is behind it, and Lucifer tells Dan that his father is dealing with somewhere digging with something much bigger. He wants Lucifer to go in and beat up the gang while he grabs the box. Lucifer says that he's not Ddd's muscle, and Dan admits that he can't do it without him. Taking sympathy on Dan, Lucifer says that he'll do but his way, and they'll let money do the talking.
Lucifer and Dan go to the bike shop, and Dan climbs over the back gate. He goes into the shop and spots the box on a workbench. Going in the front, Lucifer says that he wants to buy the most expensive bike. They sell bicycles, and Camila is there and offended that Lucifer would rather buy a bicycle. They sympathize when Lucifer says that his father never taught him to ride a bicycle. Meanwhile, Dan sees a man, Vargas, break into the cage where the box and the workbench are,
Sitting down with the gangers in the front, Lucifer talks about his father issues and they suggest that Lucifer's father want to spend time with him. Meanwhile, Vargas grabs the box and Dan draws a gun on him. Vargas hands it over and Dan gives him a pair of handcuffs and tells Vargas to cuff himself. Vargas does so and Dan locks the cage door shut. Vargas apologizes, runs out, and a guard dog charges at him.
Lucifer and the gangers group-hug, and they hear the dog attacking Dan. The leader, Lucho, wants to go investigate. Dan runs in with the box and Camila recognizes him. Lucifer says that Dan is with him and they're leave, and Lucifer tells Dan to go when the gangers don't believe him. However, he refuses to give Dan his keys and drive off in his car, and tells Dan to use his imagination.
Dan grabs a bicycle and leaves, while Lucifer's eyes glow red and the gangers back away from him. Riding off on the bicycle, Dan notices blood dripping out of one corner of the box. He hits a parked car and flips over the hood, and rolls to a halt next to Benito's severed head in the box that has fallen out. Luis and his thugs come up, Luis tells Dan that he should never look in the box, and one of his men pistol-whips Dan unconscious.
Later, Dan wakes up in his apartment. Luis and his thugs are there, and Dan figures that Luis sent him to deliver a message and wonders what his ex-partner is into. Luis says that Benito wasn't his friend but kept the books for him, and he betrayed Luis by working with the Russians. Dan figures that Luis is in a war with the Russians, and Luis agrees and says that he's going to win. When Dan wonders why Luis got him involved in the situation, Luis explains that he didn't want to risk one of his own guys. If the Russians decided to kill the messenger, Luis would have lost nothing. If Dan survives, he's on the hook for transporting human remains across international borders.
Dan chuckles and says Luis isn't going to win anything because he's never going to work for his ex-partner. Luis tells Dan to adjust his attitude because he's not done with Dan, but Dan lost the head in Mexico, Since Dan arrested Luis' man, Vargas , who was going to kill the Russian bookkeeper on Luis' orders, Dan is going to have to kill the Russian bookkeeper. Dan refuses and tells Luis to turn himself in, and Luis what happened to Dan. Luis says that he injected Dan with neurotoxin while Dan was unconscious. The toxin will kill Dan in ten hours if he doesn't get the antidote. Luis tells Dan that he involved him because he always liked working with Dan. He tells Dan that he left him a note with the address and leaves with his men.
Dan goes to the station and Ella' lab, and she nervously puts away her laptop and says that she was just doing work stuff. He asks her about how to fake a murder, claiming it's for a case but he doesn't have the file. Ella says that she's been working on the perfect murder for her novel, and shows it on her laptop to Dan. As Ella describes how the forensic scientist in the novel is just like her, Dan tells her to get to the murder, and asks if she could pull it off in thirty minutes. Ella figures that she could but Dan would have to move it outdoors. Dan tells her to slow down and takes note.
Later, Dan drives to the bookkeeper's cabin with a duffle. He knocks at the door and the bookkeeper, Svetlana, answers the door. She sees the police label on the duffle and refuses to let him in, and Dan says that he's not on official business and barges in. He explains that he was sent there to kill her, but is just going to fake her death. Svetlana claims she believes him, gets Dan to turn his back, and then knocks him out with a baseball bat.
When Dan wakes up later in Svetlana's cabin, there's no one there. His car is gone, and Dan calls someone and says he needs help. Amenadiel flies there and asks Dan what happened. Dan doesn't want to talk about it, and Amenadiel says that he's an angel and Dan's friend, and can help. When Dan still doesn't want to go into details, Aas wonders why Dan called him there if he doesn't his help. Amenadiel points out that he's not an Uber, and Day tells the angel that he doesn't have any other choice.
Amenadiel reluctantly flies Dan back to his apartment, and Dan calls the chemistry department at UCLA about the toxin. Maze is there, and she explains that she heard Lucifer saying that Dan was spinning out of control so she wanted to see it for herself. Dan bursts into laughter, then says that he's having the worse day of his life and the concussion aren't helping. She points out that they killed a man together and he can tell her anything.
Dan breaks down and tells her, after he makes her promise not to laugh. When she hears Dan's story, Maze laughs at the idea of Amenadiel carrying Dan in his arms. Dan's is amused, and Maze offers to get proof that Svetlana is dead. When Dan says that she can't actually Svetlana, Maze tells him that she can still come up with something and first she has to reach out to her Russian contacts and set up a meet with them and Dan so Dan can explain the deal. Dan will then set up Luis with the Russians, and Maze will get Dan his proof. He thanks her and she says that she's only helping Dan because it's him.
Later, Dan meets with the Russians at the restaurant the use as a front, using an alias, and explains their part of the plan. Their leader, Andrei, points out that they don't know who Dan is, but Maze vouches for him so it's okay. Linda comes in, sees Dan, and calls him by his real name. Dan tells the mobsters that he needs a minute, goes over to Linda, and tells her to hit him. She immediately does, and Dan tells her that he'll explain later.
Dan goes back to the mobsters and says that Linda is his side piece, and he never gives his mistresses his real name. Linda comes over and throws water in Dan's face, and Andrea sympathizes. He tells Dan that he likes him and sees Dan that he'll see him that night at Lux, where Dan is having the meet.
Later, Dan goes to the penthouse. Lucifer loans him some of his clothes and admits that Dan looks pretty good. He assures Dan that he's closed Lux for a "private party", and that the plan is going to work perfectly. However, Lucifer says that he's not going to be at the meet but assures Dan that there won't be any actual violence. All Dan needs is guys that look tough, and Lucifer tells Dan that he has just the right men for the job, and that Dan's got it.
Dan goes down to the dance floor, and Ryan and the other members of Dan's improve group show up as Dan's backup. Ryan figures that all they have to is look tough. As Dan starts to object, Luis comes in with his thugs. Dan has no choice but to play along, and Luis is impressed that Dan showed up with his own crew. Ryan snaps at Luis, and Luis tells Dan to put a "leash" on his "dog".
Maze brings Svetlana in, holding her at knifepoint. The demon says that proof can be faked, and she brought Svetlana so that Luis could kill her and know the bookkeeper was dead. The Russians come in, Andrei says no one is going to kill Svetlana, and his men draw their guns. Everyone else draws their guns, and Luis tells "Danimal" that since he sold him out, he isn't going to get the antidote.
Andrei hears Luis' new nickname for Dan and figures that Dan has been lying to him. Dan tells everyone to take a breath, he has no idea how they got in the current situation, and it's one crazy thing after another. He says that they have the power to stop it, and says that if the world is senseless, all they can do is what they think is best. Dan figures no one think it's best if they all die.
Andrei nods in agreement and tells his men to put their guns down. Luis and his men do the same, and Maze lower her knife. Ryan and the "crew" lower their guns, and Camila and her gang come in with guns drawn and say that they're looking for Dan and Lucifer. Ryan says that they used to get into it in the yard, and the bangers gun him down.
Everyone opens fire, and Maze yells at Dan to get the antidote vial. The "crew" go down, and Dan crawls across the floor to get the vial that Luis has dropped. Someone kicks it away, and everyone else gets shot down. Dan gets the vial, but Luis shoots it and prepares to shoot Dan dead. Maze jumps in the way, takes the shot, and dies in Dan's arms.
Andrei lives long enough to kill Luis, and Dan tells Maze that she's all right. He breaks into tears, saying that he's sorry, and Lucifer arrives and asks Dan what he did. He tells Dan that when someone tries to do the right thing, people that don't deserve it get shot. Dan wonders what Lucifer is talking about, and Ryan comes back to "life" laughing and says that he couldn't hold it in any longer. All of the other "corpses" come to life, laughing, and Lucifer applauds them all on their performance.
The lights come up and the waitresses serve drinks. Lucifer takes a selfie with Dan, and dancers dance with Dan. Benito is there, holding his fake head and laughing in triumph. Luis tells Dan that Lucifer approached him and offered him a lot of money, and a dazed Dan says that it was a lot of fun. Andrei invites Dan to his wedding, and Maze offers Dan a drink.
They go to the bar, and Maze tells Dan that everyone was in on it except Amenadiel, Linda, Ella, and Chloe. Dan tells Maze that he thought she died, and she's surprised that Dan thinks she'd take a bullet for him. However, she comfortingly says that she wouldn't take one in the chest and kisses him on the cheek before leaving to join the party.
Lucifer joins Dan and says that $5.5 million he spent on the plot was totally worth it, and says the hardest part was making sure Chloe wasn't involved. He says that there wasn't much to control and Dan is very predictable, and that Dan would never quit. Lucifer is shocked to realize that given the opportunity, Dan will always try and do the right thing.
Dan thanks Lucifer and tells him that he really needed the whole thing, and he's been in a weird place for a long time but he thinks he's through it. Lucifer is disappointed, saying that's not why he did it, and says that he did it because Dan shot him.
