HBO Max is developing a drama series based on the life of Heidi Fleiss, Variety has learned exclusively.
The untitled series hails from writer and executive producer Maggie Cohn, who most recently served as the co-showrunner on HBO Max’s critically acclaimed limited series “The Staircase.” Fleiss will serve as a consultant on the project.
Emma Tillinger Koskoff of First Love Films will also executive produce, along with Alex Goldstone (“Dickinson”) for Anonymous Content, Bill Gerber of Gerber Pictures, and David Bernon, Paul Bernon, and Sam Slater of Burn Later Productions.
Fleiss formerly operated a prostitution ring in Los Angeles that reportedly catered to wealthy clients such as actors, sports figures, directors, business executives, and more, earning her the nickname “The Hollywood Madam.” She was arrested in the early ’90s on multiple charges and ultimately served nearly two years in prison. Actor Tom Sizemore, best known for his role in “Saving Private Ryan,” is in a Los Angeles hospital in critical condition after suffering a brain aneurysm.
According to his manager Charles Lago, Sizemore was found unconscious in his home around 2 a.m. Sunday and was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he remains in the intensive care unit.
Sizemore has a history of substance abuse problems — including addiction to cocaine, heroin and methamphetamines — that began when he was 15. After struggling with Dr. Drew Pinsky’s program for 10 years, Sizemore appeared on the third season of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” in 2010, after which Sizemore achieved sobriety. Pinsky cited Sizemore as one of the show’s biggest successes.
In 2013, he told “Access Hollywood” that his “Heat” co-star Robert De Niro joined his family in an intervention to get him on the right track.

Irwin got his start popping popcorn for “Saturday Night Live” honcho Lorne Michaels in 1990, the year that Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, David Spade and Chris Rock joined the show. Vice TV’s “Chyna” documentary debuts tonight, somewhat curiously not as a “Dark Side of the Ring” episode. The pro wrestling docu-dramas definitely share the “same DNA,” though, Vice TV executive vice president and general manager Morgan Hertzan told TheWrap. And that’s not all they share.
“Vice Versa: Chyna,” the first-ever documentary about Joanie Laurer’s professional wrestling character, came from the same cycle of development as “Dark Side of the Ring” Season 3. Considering by that point “Dark Side of the Ring” was already Vice’s best-ever rated series — and was in the process of spawning spinoffs “Dark Side of Football” and “Dark Side of the 90s” — the triumphs and tragedy of Chyna seemed like a perfect season premiere or finale episode for the franchise starter.
“What we decided was that the Chyna story was so extraordinary that it really needed to live on its own. It really kind of deserved its own platform.
