Somehow, the year's most controversial reality series managed to find itself in even more hot water.
By now, not a single soul on Earth with access to the internet could've missed the hoopla surrounding "Squid Game," the South Korean Netflix sensation that took the world by storm in 2021. Of course, the show's breakout success was due in large part to its unapologetically anti-capitalist messages and its central dilemma about wealth inequality -- potent themes represented by the eponymous game that pit 456 players against one another in a fight to the death. So, naturally, many raised an eyebrow or two when it was announced that Netflix would be subjecting actual people to a scaled-down version of that very same game for a grand prize of $4.56 million, courtesy of a new reality series titled "Squid Game: The Challenge." Upon its premiere last month, the overall reception went more or less as expected...

By the time Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie had been a member of the band for years. Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham brought a new dynamic to the group and helped them rise to unprecedented success. McVie was happy to welcome them into the group. According to Nicks, though, she wouldn’t have been happy if she was in the same position. She said she wouldn’t have been as happy to welcome another woman into the band.

Cradle of Filth have unveiled a new single titled “She Is a Fire” and announced their first live album in 20 years, Trouble and Their Double Lives, arriving April 28th.
The studio track “She Is a Fire” will be included as a bonus track on the upcoming live record, along with another new song, “Demon Prince Regent.” These tunes were written following the recording of the band’s latest album, 2021’s Existence Is Futile. As Dani Filth describes them, the songs “present a perfect, but not necessarily related, bridge between our Nuclear Blast days and the forthcoming album on Napalm Records.”
A furious six-minute piece, “She Is a Fire” is an unrelenting exercise in technical black metal as riffs unfurl from one another in a torrent of notes. Dani Filth’s whispery howl provides properly unsettling accompaniment.

North of Normal is an affecting drama about the life-altering impact of a youth in the wild. Happily, it embraces subtlety rather than over-the-top histrionics, resulting in a study of teenage wildlife that resonates strongly. Premiering at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, director Carly Stone’s second feature is a wise, warm, appropriately wounded winner. It is based on Cea Sunrise Person’s memoir of growing up in the Yukon with an aimless teenage mother, a free-spirited grandfather, and an assorted cast of hippie hangers-on. Sounds like we could be approaching sitcom territory, doesn’t it? Bravo to Stone, then, for never allowing the story to stray off course.
North of Normal begins in 1979, dropping us directly into a commune-ish existence in northern Canada. As explained via voiceover, Grandpa Dick “put his family into a Vw van and drove north,” strong in the belief that the wilderness would solve his family’s problems.

Mick Jagger treated himself to a spot of Coldplay last night, sharing a video of him bellowing along to the iconic tearjerker “Fix You” at the band’s concert at London’s Wembley Stadium Sunday, Aug. 21.
By the looks of the video, Jagger had quite the view from his box, able to take in the entire crowd, all wearing light-up bracelets. Whoever took the video captured a charming moment where Jagger threw up his hands, waved them around, and sang along with Chris Martin and the rest of the crowd.

How to Fix a Drug Scandal is the latest stranger-than-fiction documentary series from Netflix. Although most of the key players in the story portray themselves through reenactments and interviews, an actress plays central figure Sonja Farak in reenactments of courtroom proceedings from the scandal-revealing case. Shannon O'Neill plays Farak, and it's a bit of a departure for her. While Farak is a drug-addicted lab chemist with a dark and criminal secret, the actress playing her is better known for her work in comedy. Here's what she's been up to before her Netflix starring role.
If you're a fan of the famed Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe, that's where you're most likely to have seen O'Neill before. Not only is she a longtime performer with the Ucb, but she also served as artistic director of the Ucb Theatre in New York City from 2014 to 2018. She was part of...

The post-Leslie Jones era of Saturday Night Live kicked off this weekend with four-time host Woody Harrelson and the return of a famous alumna.
The Season 45 premiere began with a toothless impeachment-themed sketch. That was followed by a lackluster opening monologue that painted Harrelson as a so-called fashionista. Thankfully, the episode found its footing — and gave at least one new cast member a chance to shine — after the first commercial break, when the show returned with a cameo-filled debate parody that really, really should have served as the cold open.

Saturday Night Live earned Andrew Yang’s vote for using newcomer Bowen Yang —- the show’s first East Asian cast member, ever — to portray the Democratic presidential candidate in this weekend’s Season 45 premiere.
In an “Impeachment Town Hall” sketch, Cecily Strong as CNN’s Erin Burnett moderated the “muddled 10-person debate,” starting off by introducing the candidates one by one. ‘Sharp Objects': Eliza Scanlen on Playing Amy Adams’ ‘Rebellious’ Little Sister With ‘Balls’ (Video)
(Spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you’ve seen Episode 103 of “Sharp Objects,” “Fix”)
Eliza Scanlen may play a wild child on HBO’s new limited series, “Sharp Objects,” but that’s far from her real-life M.O. The Australian born actress told TheWrap as much last week, when she stopped by to talk about her role as Camille’s (Amy Adams) rebellious half sister, Amma Crellin, in the TV adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s dark debut novel.
“I think when it is a challenge, it’s all the more fun and exciting and what you get out of it, it’s a lot more gratifying,” the 19-year-old said of taking on the two-faced preteen, who lets her mother, Adora (Patricia Clarkson), baby her all day, then runs her posse of preteen bullies during those hot Missouri summer nights.

“You just looooove dead girls,” Amma (Eliza Scanlen) croons drunkenly at her older sister Camille (Amy Adams) in “Fix,” Episode 3 of HBO’s “Sharp Objects.” “Couldn’t stay away.”
It’s a statement that pokes at the heart of the genre in which “Sharp Objects” can’t help but invoke. Change the director, change the tone, change the approach as much as you like, but so many great TV shows can’t help but invoke this one classic trope: the premature death of a girl.
The tragically dead girl in fiction, especially crime fiction, is hard to avoid. “It’s very prominent in all of TV and film,” Scanlen told IndieWire in a recent interview. She might be a teenage innocent who drifted along a path to darkness (“Twin Peaks”). She might have just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (“The Killing”). She might be...

When Chris Lane recorded his first LP, Girl Problems, he and producer Joey Moi decided to double down on the skill that they believed could help the North Carolinian stand out in the crowd: his ability to slip easily into falsetto, a technique that rarely makes its way into the country catalog. Not too long ago, it was confirmed that a third Tron film was moving forward at Disney, with a new writer on board and cast members from 2010's Legacy signed on. Director Joseph Kosinski said that the sequel will have to be their Empire Strikes Back in order for him to return. In an interview with Hit Fix while promoting The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Olivia Wilde talked about her returning as Quorra in Tron 3. She doesn't share any updates on where the film is exactly in its development, but she does look back on Legacy and how its establishment of its characters (particularly Quorra) would allow for "some fun" to occur in future adventures. "I loved the collaborative effort that was Tron, and I think now with the time to really focus on character development after we've established so much exposition, we can really have some fun. Well guys, House is back, and I'm fairly sure that this episode is going to split fans straight down the middle. There are a lot of people against the whole 'Huddy' storyline, and you probably are better off heading to 'Three Stories' or 'House's Head' for your fix, because this episode didn't have the traditional 'mystery of the week' at the center, in fact the mystery was totally minor this week, very much like last year's premiere, 'Broken.'
What this episode was, is a chance to really get all the characters in the House Universe on screen how they are at the present time. It was the start of change in the show, perhaps 'The beginning of the end,' in terms of the whole shows run. I personally, liked it. Precious: Based On The Novel “Push” By Sapphire (Lionsgate) In-your-face, but undeniably powerful film that follows the plight of an overweight inner-city teen (Gabourey Sidbe, a real find) who must deal with an abusive mother (Mo’Nique, in a career-making turn for which she won a most-deserved Best Supporting Actress Oscar), a baby born of her abusive, and absent, father, and trying to survive day-to-day with few people to offer her help, save for a sympathetic teacher (Paula Patton) in a special ed program. Director/producer Lee Daniels, a former personal manager/producer-turned-filmmaker, brings a kitchen sink authenticity to the proceedings, along with a cast of famous powerhouse performers, who manage to disappear into their roles. Tough stuff, but not to be missed. Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay (Geoffrey Fletcher). Bonuses: Commentary by Daniels; Featurettes; Interviews with Sapphire and Daniels; Deleted scene. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.

The movie Fix redefines the term “fly by the seat of your pants.” In this film, Leo (played by Shawn Andrews) must attend court-ordered rehab by the end of the day, or he will have to return to prison. But rehab is expensive, and Leo can’t afford the $5000 it will cost him to go, so his brother Milo (Tao Ruspoli, the director) and Milo’s girlfriend Bella (Olivia Wilde, as seen on House) come to La to help him out. And by help him out, I mean they bring a camera and document the wildest adventure one day could encompass. Within 15 hours, the group participates in every scam they can think of, from selling a police dog to a motorcycle gang to stealing a car and selling it to parts places.
A film like this could have been either horrifyingly terrible or incredibly amazing, but Fix definitely falls into the latter category.

Godard's Breathless is the film that made me want to become a filmmaker. I saw it my freshman year in college and I couldn't believe how a director could take a few great characters and a mostly hand-held camera and make a film that said so much about life in a world in which absolute values had become irrelevant (both filmically and ethically.) And what a face Belmondo had! - Have you ever wondered what are the films that inspire the next generation of filmmakers? As part of our monthly Ioncinephile profile (read here), we ask the filmmaker the incredibly arduous task of identifying their top ten list of all time favorite films. Tao Ruspoli - Interview
Fix is one of those movies you didn’t know you needed to see until you’re ensconced in the reality that director Tao Ruspoli made a movie with a compelling premise, is shot with a style that blends fiction and reality in a real exciting way, and is a completely independent vision. People can get hung up on particulars when it comes to a movie’s presentation when you are saddled with a low budget but Tao completely bucks that by incorporating his...

Olivia Wilde of Fix - Interview
You just don’t bring up that Olivia Wilde was named #1 in Maxim’s Hot 100 list of nice looking ladies.
I don’t know if this speaks to the fact I don’t read Maxim or that the only reason I know who she was, before seeing the wonderment that is Fix, was that she sat in on a press conference for Tron Legacy at Comic-Con over the summer. So enamored I was to speak to Jeff Bridges that I completely gave...

Pulling off TV role while shooting film with director husband required 'herculean effort,' actress says.

It was 2007 and Olivia Wilde had just been cast as a bisexual doc on "House," a juicy role on a hit show following a run on the short-lived NBC series "The Black Donnellys" and another bisexual turn on "The O.C." The job was a huge break for the actress — it would lead to a vastly raised public profile and the top spot in the Maxim Hot 100 — but the new work also came at a tricky time: She was about to start filming "Fix," a movie she couldn't exactly bail on considering her husband, Tao Ruspoli, was the director.

How did Tao Ruspoli land Olivia Wilde, best known as Thirteen on House, for his debut feature film? Easy, they’re married. Ruspoli is an award-winning documentary filmmaker who stays close to reality with his first fictional project – the story is inspired by his brother’s struggle with drug addiction. Wilde and Ruspoli play a documentary filmmaking couple who must race across Los Angeles to get his brother Leo into a rehab program by 8 pm, or else the brother faces three years of jail. Shawn Andrews (Dazed and Confused) plays Leo, and Megalyn Echikunwoke (CSI: Miami, 24) also co-stars. Ruspoli said...

Olivia Wilde steps onto the red carpet at the Tribeca Grand Hotel and the flashbulbs explode. She’s in town for the premiere of her latest film “Fix” (which opens on Friday) and banks and banks of press photographers are vying for a perfect shot. “Look to the left, Olivia! Look to the right!” they shout, as cameras focus and refocus. Asked what she makes of all the heady attention, the 25-year-old shrugs playfully. “It’s a circus. All filmmaking is like a circus from start to finish. Some part of me really enjoys it,” she told IrishCentral’s sister publication the Irish Voice during an interview last week. But Wilde has a particularly Irish combination of beauty and brains, so it’s fairly safe to assume she’ll never be seduced by the empty glamour of fame that seems to consume so many of her contemporaries. In the midst...

Olivia Wilde might be most known for her portrayal of Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley on House -- but don't expect her to play doctor forever. The actress is filling out her resume with comedies (Year One), scifi (Tron Legacy), and indie dramas like Fix, which was written and directed by her co-star -- and real-life husband --Tao Ruspoli. Wilde talks about what she finds appealing in dark storylines, how...

Actress Olivia Wilde has been padding her resume with a wide variety of projects lately, from the popular TV drama House to the horror film Turistas to the slapstick period comedy Year One. Not only are her projects disparate in genre and tone, but in production size. Wilde's latest film, Fix, in which she co-stars with her real-life husband, actor-director Tao Ruspoli, was shot in only 18 days using a single camera. In contrast, Wilde recently acted alongside Jeff Bridges in Disney's upcoming Tron: Legacy, a movie that required several camera units, not to mention untold hours of computer graphics work.
In a recent interview with Moviefone, Wilde discussed working on a movie as close to home as Fix, which was inspired by an actual day in the lives of her husband and his brother, a heroin addict.

Ever since Nicolas Cage was shown clinging to his "lucky crackpipe," cinephiles have been jonesing for Werner Herzog's re-imagining of Abel Ferrara's arthouse cop thriller. Twilighters know Billy Burke as the loveable-but-somewhat-clueless Charlie Swan, Bella’s dad in the on-screen saga. But the veteran actor has never been busier than he is now – with a half-dozen side projects and films currently in some stage of development – and is excited to be bringing his real-life wife and daughter into the mix.
“I did a film called ‘Luster,’ that was being done by friends of mine, and we threw that one together in 3 to 4 weeks,” he said of the indie thriller. “It’s a psychological thriller.”
“My wife is actually in it too,” he said with pride, mentioning his actress spouse who recently released “Fix” opposite Olivia Wilde. “My wife, Pollyanna Rose is in it as well. She plays a crazy movie starlet.”
But one reason why Twilighters may want to keep an eye peeled for “Luster” is that it not only features Burke and his wife,...

While in New York to discuss her new indie drama Fix , Olivia Wilde of Fox's hit show "House" gave us her thoughts on completing the long-awaited sequel Tron Legacy . Cs: Now that the shooting of "Tron Legacy" is complete, how do you feel about the experience? Olivia Wilde: It was completely wild and amazing, and I really felt like I had given birth to a 19-pound baby when it was done. (laughs) Cs: How so? Wilde: That it was, like, the most difficult thing I've ever done. We shot some 20-hour days, we were wearing the suits, which are not easy to wear. I was doing a lot of my own stunts and training a lot of the time. Really pushing myself physically as well as mentally. It was an epic undertaking. It was a Huge film to shoot in those few days....

“House” star Olivia Wilde has called Robert Pattinson is like a “frog in boiling water” in comparison to her slow rise to fame, and questions whether the “Twilight” hunk’s time in the spotlight will last. The Irish-American actress, and Maxim’s sexiest woman of the year, says in the October issue of GQ that while she has slowly but surely gained star status, the English actor became an international superstar overnight – which isn’t a good thing. “I did not envy him,” Wilde, who recently hung out with Pattinson, says. “I think it’s the frog-in-boiling-water concept. Robert Pattinson jumped in boiling water and has stayed in it, and hopefully will survive. “Whereas I entered the water when it was cold, and it’s been slowly heating up — a slooooow boil. Maybe I won’t realize when it’s getting dangerous.” Wilde, who stars in the upcoming critically acclaimed indie film “Fix,...

Ever since her brief role as Mischa Barton's gf on The O.C., we've come to really appreciate Olivia Wilde's same-sex scenes.
For those who aren't complete House fanatics (you know, since it was deemed the most popular show in the world — and that's not even hyperbole!), Wilde's character, Thirteen, is bisexual.
Remember the sexy scene last fall featuring the hot doc and a random lady friend (with the perfect background song, "Cheap and Cheerful" from The Kills, I might add)?
Well, you won't be getting anything like that with her next role in the movie Fix, as Wilde will star alongside her real-life husband, Tao Ruspoli (who also directs the movie). Bummer, I know.
However, Wilde's acting ability goes beyond looking really, uh, nice, and being willing to play gay (or bi/bi-curious, drunk, whatever ), so it'll still be worth seeing, I'm sure.
