Enthusiastic and committed and with authentic instruments
This is one wonderful Messiah. I loved the setting the performance is played in and the whole performance is beautifully shot. Stephen Cleobury conducts with great precision, the orchestra playing on authentic instruments play with wonderful sound and the chorus are beautifully balanced and enthusiastic. The music is brilliant, not just the Hallelujah chorus but also the finale, And the Glory of the Lord, I Know That My Redeemer Liveth and The Trumpets Shall Sound. The soloists also impress, Lynne Dawson is suitably ethereal, Hilary Summers firm and musical, John Mark Ainsley never feeling strained and Alistair Miles very resonant.
In conclusion, a wonderful Messiah. 10/10 Bethany Cox
