It starts with a bit of action. Inspector Mallender apprehends two robbers in a car chase. It ended up with a milk float getting overturned.
Unfortunately for Mallender, he ends up shot dead. The press classify him as a hero. His colleagues are upset and tightly so.
Mitch is despatched to find out more about the dead policeman. He finds a neighbour where the shooting happened had taped the audio of what happened. The tape is for sale for £500.
Mitch also looks at how easy it is to get a gun in the black market. Just see a few dodgy guys in the pub. It upsets the police superiors who threaten to arrest Mitch for holding an illegal gun and without a licence.
While one suspect is arrested who claims he did not fire the gun. The police tell him about the true like case of Derek Bentley, hung even though he did not fire the fatal shot.
Once again another poor episode. I am not sure what Mitch was investigating and what the point was. By now I'm wondering how this series was greenlit.
At least there was a bittersweet ending. It was the days when the newspaper industry had to deal with 32 different unions.
