- Sheldon and Grace are having sex at home when Sheldon pick up radio anomalies indicating a rogue comet heading toward Earth. He flies off to intercept it, and Grace goes to the closet to get a towel and finds a box of photos. Some are from 1929, some are from when Brandon and Chloe were children.
1929
The expedition assembles in Morocco, and they hire Captain Borges to take them to the coordinates. He warns that it's dangerous and says that Sheldon's offer of payment isn't worth the risk. Borges says that half a dozen ships have been lost in the area, and one of Borges' men says that something lurks beneath the waves. Sheldon insists that Borger has to be the guy, but only tells Borges that he heard he was the best captain, rather than saying he saw Borges in a vision.
Borges starts to walk away, and when Sheldon tries to stop him Borges draws a gun on him. Walt puts out more money, and Borges agrees to take the expedition to the coordinates.
Grace talks to the locals and confirms that eight ships were lost at the coordinates, and tells Fitz what she's learned. Fitz has read Lovecraft's stories of beings living under the sea, and Grace wonders if Sheldon and George knew about the ships going missing. Fitz points out that it didn't matter to Sheldon,.
The expedition goes to the ship, which isn't in the best of shape. Walt points out that they're missing the last man Sheldon saw in his vision, and Sheldon sees Chester's ghost accompanying them. Sheldon tells his brother that maybe the man is on the ship, and they board. Borges tells them that most of the crew decided to stay behind when they heard where they heading, and tells the expedition to hand over their sidearms. When Sheldon balks, Borges tells him that he doesn't have to take him and the expedition reluctantly hand over their weapons, and they cast off.
Now
Ruby meets Brandon on the farm and tells him that they can handle the current crisis. Lady Liberty comes out and greets Ruby, and Ruby returns her greeting, asks Brandon to call her later, and flies off. Brandon says that things have been tense in the field since he killed the clone. He tells his mother that the hate never stops, and wonders what good it does to follow the Code. Grace says that it's the right thing, and leaves
1929
Grace takes photos of the ship and crew as they go along their way, and sees Sheldon talking to his "invisible" father. George approaches Grace and she points out that Sheldon is talking to himself. He dismisses it as Sheldon working things out in his head. George assures Grace that Sheldon isn't crazy, and looks hesitantly at Sheldon.
Now
After a fight with the villain, one of the younger superheroes, Shatterstar, is badly injured. Janna stops the others from killing the unconscious villain, and Lady Liberty flies down and tells the main superhero, Vulcaner, to back down. Vulcaner points out that the villains ambushed them and one of them escaped, and says that he was making sure the villain stayed down. Lady Liberty tells Vulcaner that he doesn't get to kill, and says that they need to be better than the villains. Vulcaner says that now it's about not being killed, and wonders what the Union is going to do about that. Lady Liberty doesn't have an answer for him
1929
Grace and Fitz listen at the door of Sheldon's cabin as he argues with Chester. They know that no is there with Sheldon. They meet with Walt and tell him that Sheldon is arguing with himself, and Walt insists that Sheldon isn't insane. The engines stop, and they go to investigate.
Now
Lady Liberty and Janna--Ghost Beam--go to Supermax to take in the prisoner. Afterward, Janna tells Lady Liberty that Vulcaner--Jay--was upset because his friend Shatterstar was hurt. Lady Liberty asks how Janna is holding up, and Janna says that it's getting bad out in the world. She says that the rest of the team might feel the same way as Jay about the Code, and Lady Liberty admits that it's not as black-and-white as it used to be. Janna mentions that Chloe is out of the hospital, much to Lady Liberty's surprise who hadn't heard Chloe was in the hospital. Before they can talk further, Lady Liberty gets a signal from Fitz and leaves.
1929
The trio find Sheldon talking with Borges, and they learn that the bilge pump has gone out and they're taking on water. Borges says that his engineer stayed behind and it will take time to fix the pump, and Sheldon angrily accuses Borges of trying to get more money from them. Fitz goes to help fix the pump, and the others look shocked at Sheldon, who leaves.
Fitz finds the crew working on the pump, and they tell Fitz that they don't need help. He offers some help and asks if they have detergent to clear it out. When the first mate, Wellback, insults Fitz, Fitz insults him back and Wellback gets the detergent.
Now
Hutch and Chloe have sex at Hutch's place, and he asks why the never meet her friends. Chloe dismisses her friends as "shit", and Hutch goes to the bathroom. Chloe notices Lady Liberty hovering outside the window, and goes to confront her mother. Lady Liberty says that she couldn't reach Chloe on her broken phone, and points out that Hutch is George's son. Chloe says that Hutch isn't like his father just like she isn't like Utopian, and Chloe complains that her mother always takes her husband's side. Chloe asks if Grace ever has any thoughts that aren't Sheldon's. When Grace says that isn't fair, Chloe tells her mother that Sheldon said the same thing, and tells Grace to go away so Hutch doesn't see her. With that, Grace flies off.
1929
While they wait for Wellback, Wellback's assistant Axmed tells Fitz that no one has ever talked to the mate like that. Fitz says that he reads about everything, Axmed suggests that Fitz stay there, and Fitz tells him that America is his country, no matter how it treats him and his kind.
Now
In the Union hall, grace asks Fitz if he thinks Walt can get inside the clone's brain. Fitz warns that it won't be easy given the damage Brandon did to the clone's skull, and Grace warns that the younger heroes will use Blackstar as a flashpoint to even the score. She points out that Vulcaner would have killed the villain if Janna hadn't stepped in, and Fitz suggests that the villain deserved it. Grace asks if Fitz really believes that, and Fitz tells her that the world isn't black-and-white. Grace admits that she knows it and that Brandon took a life.
1929
Grace goes to Sheldon's cabin and knocks at the door. He yells to himself and doesn't answer, and Grace finds Sheldon's sketches in the adjoining room. There's a sketch of Chester's ghost, and George and Walt come in and ask Grace what she's doing. Sheldon comes out as well, and Walt asks him what the sketch of Chester is, and what else Sheldon has been hiding from him. Walt finds the watch, and asks Sheldon if he got it from their father's body.
Chester's ghost appears to Sheldon and tells Sheldon to tell Walt what he did. As a furious Sheldon grabs Walt, the crewmen run by because something is happening on the ocean. On the deck, the crewman pull another man, Richard Conrad, out of the water. Sheldon recognizes him as the last man from his vision, and tells Grace and the others that Richard is the last one and they're all there.
The crew take Richard to the mess room and asks him what happened to him, and Richard says that he's with the Red Cross. He explains that all of a sudden an island rose out of the water and a storm followed their ship as if it knew what they were thinking. Sheldon remembers Miller saying the same thing and it took the rest of his crew but let him live. A storm comes up outside, and Richard says that it's found him.
Borges orders the engine room to reverse course, and Sheldon tells the captain not to. The others pull Sheldon away, and Sheldon says that Richard was in Miller's cellar and that proves it was all real. Sheldon says that they were all there, says that he had a vision, and insists that he's not crazy. He warns that they can't run and they have to straight through it, and if they run from it they will all die.
As the others argue and Chester tells Sheldon that they're turning on Sheldon just like he said they would, then Chester says that Sheldon has to do what he told him. Sheldon screams at Chester to get out of his head, and Walt asks who his brother is talking to. Hugging Walt and sobbing, Sheldon says that Chester is there and George says that he didn't know about the corpse in Sheldon's visions. Sheldon begs Walt to believe him, and Walt has the crew take Sheldon to his cabin. As they go, Sheldon yells at Borges that they have to keep going. In the hallway, Sheldon breaks free and grabs Wellback's gun.
Now
Lady Liberty flies to a building where Baryon is hiding, and Ghost Beam has gone in after him. The police have surrounded the building, and Lady Liberty tells them to stay out while she goes in. Searching the place, Lady Liberty find a badly injured Ghost Beam. Ghost Beam says that she didn't kill Baryon and break the Code, and dies.
Superspeeding through the building, Lady Liberty finds Baryon and he blasts her. He pauses, and Lady Liberty charges the villain and throw him into a wall. She then beats him, then takes the unconscious Baryon out and hands him over to the police. Lady Liberty tells them that Ghost Beam is dead, and Baryon gets to live.
Back at home, Grace takes a shower and washes the blood off of her. She looks at herself in the mirror, and Utopian returns and says that he dealt with the comet. He says that it's not as easy as it used to be, and suggests he take Brandon with him next time. Grace says that Brandon would like that, and tells Sheldon that she saw Chloe while he was gone and she ran into Janna on patrol. She tells Sheldon that Janna is dead and walks out of the bedroom.
Grace goes outside and stands by herself on the porch. Sheldon joins her and they stand in silence.
1929
The ship plows through the storm, and Sheldon goes out on deck and holds the crew at gunpoint. He tells them to hold the ship on course or he'll shoot them, and Borges and the others come out and the captain trains his gun on Sheldon. Chester continues egging Sheldon on, while Sheldon says that they can't stop when they're so close. Sheldon's father tells Sheldon that his friend want to see him fail, just like Chester did. Sheldon continues talking to his father, who says that he can't let rob Sheldon of his destiny, and Grace steps forward and tells Sheldon that Sheldon thinks Chester is real, so it doesn't matter if he really is.
Grace tells Sheldon that what he's doing is the way down, and Chester tells Sheldon to kill them all. Sheldon remembers Miller telling him not to listen to the ghosts, because they lie, and Sheldon throws the gun away. Grace holds him, and the storm clears. Sheldon takes out the watch, hears it ticking, and clutches at his head. The others hear the ticking and clutch at their heads at the overwhelming noise, and the clock crystal shatters at 2:18 and the ticking stops.
Grace sees an island ahead, and points it out to Sheldon. Sheldon laughs in triumph
