We spoke to actor and frequent Kevin Smith collaborator Jason Mewes about his new movies Bling, Yoga Hosers, MallBrats and Clerks III…
Clerks is one of the movies that made me love movies, and so it was with more pre-interview nerves than usual that I waited on hold to connect with Jay actor Jason Mewes via a crackly international phone-line.
We were due to talk about the animated movie Bling - in which Mewes voices a robot monkey called Kit, who shirks his responsibilities as a theme park employee to help the main character (voiced by Taylor Kitsch) take down a super villain and propose to his girlfriend – but the memory of all the nights I’ve spent chuckling away to Jay and Silent Bob’s antics had put some serious fear into me.
I needn’t have worried, because Mewes proved to be a lovely chap to chat with,...

Tom McCarthy’s ensemble drama further bolstered its awards season credentials by claiming best feature and screenplay honours at the Ifp Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York on Monday.

Last week Spotlight earned five Spirit Award nominations and has established itself as a strong best picture Academy Award contender.
Paul Dano scooped the best actor award for Love & Mercy, while Bel Powley took corresponding actress honours for The Diary Of A Teenage Girl after beating out Oscar frontrunner Brie Larson for Room.

Starring Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Guzman, is The Boy Next Door already a nail in the coffin of the erotic thriller resurgence?
Intentional or not, it's hard to imagine that there was another film released in UK cinemas last Friday in which sex was less sexy than in It Follows, a terrific lo-fi horror film that comes highly recommended by all accounts.
And yet, last Friday also saw the release of Rob Cohen's The Boy Next Door, an erotic thriller that isn't as sexually charged as it is accidentally hilarious. For all intents and purposes, the film plays like an episode of the How Did This Get Made podcast waiting to happen.
At the start, high school teacher Claire Peterson (Jennifer Lopez) is a single mum who's mulling over whether or not she should get back together with her cheating ex-husband Garrett (John Corbett). Enter Noah, (Ryan Guzman) a...

The countdown to the Oscars is less than 24 hours away.
While some of the presumed nominees, and the precursors, seemed like a done deal in the fall, Oscar watchers will know for sure on Thursday morning when the nominations for the 87th Academy Awards are announced.
Will the guilds inclusion of American Sniper and perceived snubs that came with the lack of BAFTA, Directors Guild and Producers Guild nominations for Selma make any difference? What nominations will come out of left field?
The Academy expanded the Best Picture category for a possible 10 nominees with the intention of including big box-office hits that would help the show’s TV ratings. However, this year the race is dominated by specialty and independent labels with Gone Girl being the only contender with blockbuster status.

Each year, I like to pretend that I’m an Oscar voter with a sliver of power and write up my Oscar picks as if I had a ballot. There are no rules, but I only include categories I feel qualified to vote for, though for the actual Academy Awards, voters are limited to their respective branches and Best Picture.
I chose the eight major categories as well as Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. Keep in mind the Oscars use a weighted ballot, and remember, an asterisk denotes my vote to win, which doesn’t always correspond with my No.

The 2015 Golden Globe Awards will be held Sunday night, January 11 and we will be live-blogging the event and if you missed any of our previous award show live blogs just click here for a taste of what it's all about. However, before Sunday arrives I feel I must remedy something I neglected last year before the Globes, which is to not only offer my predictions, but give you the readers a chance to vote on yours. The voting each year is always fun to watch, most specifically because you guys always tend to collectively beat me. This year, however, seems like it might be a bit tough. To begin, the Best Picture categories alone can be a bit tricky. I think Boyhood is the obvious pick to win the Drama category, but I could see both The Imitation Game and even Selma taking this one. A Selma win would also...

Superhero movies aren't the only opportunities for fantastical world-building. In fact, five awards contenders ( "Birdman," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Interstellar," "Into the Woods," and "Noah") utilize very special environments as backdrops in the epic struggle to save the world, for redemption, or to recapture a more civilized way of life. All five movies are mythic, rites-of-passage experiences: experimental, metaphoric and very relevant in these trying times. "Birdman" is very much a meta-movie about creativity, stardom, social media, and cultural decline, and Michael Keaton is an inspired choice playing a variation of Batman: washed-up but ambitiously attempting to resurrect his career by mounting a play based on Raymond Carver's "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love." However, he's losing his mind, which is evident in the very first scene when he's levitating. Yet...

Aside from Christian Bale's psychoanalysis of Moses, the most controversial aspect about Ridley Scott's upcoming Biblical epic "Exodus: Gods and Kings" is that for a film set in ancient Egypt, it boasts a surprisingly caucasian cast including Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver and Aaron Paul. The film does boast a handful of actors of color like Ben Kingsley, Dar Salim and Indira Varm in smaller roles.
In a new Variety profile piece on 76-year-old Scott about the film, he was asked about the issue and revealed that he never even considered hiring non-white actors for the film. Why? Financing:
"I can't mount a film of this budget, where I have to rely on tax rebates in Spain, and say that my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such. I'm just not going to get it financed. So the question doesn't even come up."

If Ridley Scott’s upcoming Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings is meant to be a serious, dramatic venture, why can’t I stop sniggering at the new set of posters for it that just hit the web? Maybe it has something to do with the PhotoShop job done on stars Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton, surely one of the shoddiest since that god-awful Magic in the Moonlight poster with Colin Firth’s weird wandering eye.
That unfortunate shortcoming aside, fans of Biblical epics have reason to be excited for Exodus: Gods and Kings, which is sure to be the most crowd-pleasing in the genre this year (sorry, Noah). Bale stars as Moses, while Edgerton is donning some serious guy-liner to take on the part of Rhamses.
A new trailer is set to arrive later today, so we’ll have a better idea of what to expect from Exodus: Gods and Kings soon enough.

We appear to be in a new period of sword and sandal epics. There have been a recent spate of films featuring Hercules, the ill-conceived Pompeii, the slightly better conceived 300: Rise of an Empire, and of course, Aronofsky’s Noah. Soon entering the fray will be Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings, in which Mr. Scott goes boldly where Cecil B. DeMille has gone before.
20th Century Fox recently released a new batch of images from the film in anticipation of the first trailer (which is coming with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes next week), and they feature stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver.
Bale will star as the most Anglo Moses since Charlton Heston, battling it out with the Pharaoh Ramses (Edgerton, here seen channeling his inner Yul Brenner). The film will be a retelling of the Moses story, as he leads his...

Exclusive: I first reported last month that MGM was courting Wanted helmer Timur Bekmambetov to helm Ben-Hur. I have now confirmed that the helmer and the studio have closed their deal for him to direct a new adaptation of the 1880 Lew Wallace novel Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ, which in its time outsold every book but the Bible until it was eclipsed by Gone With The Wind. MGM bought a Ben-Hur spec by Keith Clarke (he scripted the Peter Weir-directed The Way Back). Sean Daniel and Joni Levin are producing, with Clarke and Jason Brown exec producing. Ridley Scott’s Moses epic Exodus deals with a similar subject, very close to Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments and has boasted one hell of a cast like Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming Noah. There’s no doubt Noah and Exodus will mark a return to the Biblical epics so beloved of audiences back in the 1950s and 1960s. According to reliable sources, Sigourney Weaver, Aaron Paul, John Turturro and Ben Kingsley have been tapped to join Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton as Moses and Pharoah Ramses II. The Alien star Weaver and Transformer’s Turturro will be playing Tuya, the mother of Ramses and Seti, Tuya’s husband and...

Ridley Scott has big plans for his Exodus movie. Forget The Ten Commandments, Scott is aiming for the same scope as Darren Aronofsky's upcoming Noah and has assembled one hell of a cast for his Biblical epic focused on Moses leading the Jewish people from Egypt. On top of the already cast Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton as Moses and Pharoah Ramses II respectively, Scott is close to signing Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver, Aaron Paul, and John Turturro. Iron Man 3 is officially the biggest move of the summer- as at the time of writing, the fifth most successful movie of all time! It’s not hard to see why- as well as coming off the back of The Avengers, it has a stellar cast, masterful direction from Shane Black, big laughs and a bigger heart beating at its centre. But so much of that is down to its screenwriter.
Drew Pearce may not be a name you’d heard of before Iron Man 3 hits out screens, but the creator of cult hit sitcom No Heroics is now the hottest man in Hollywood. Pearce is currently writing the fifth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, and has a slew of other projects on the go. Drew Pearce is here to stay, and Hollywood is all the better for it.

With this year's K-11, Kristen Stewart continues to push the envelope and prove to Twilight naysayers that she's more than a pretty face as she continues to tackle more mature acting roles like Welcome to the Rileys, in which she played a foul-mouthed runaway stripper opposite James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo.
While only bare-bones details about the role have been reported — we know she plays a transgender prisoner locked up inside K-11, the Los Angeles County Jail facility that serves as the home for gay inmates that keeps them segregated from the general prison population — HollywoodLife.com got a first-look at the latest script and spilled the details.
Among their observations for the "radically racy movie": Stewart will play Birdy, a 19-year-old "red-headed girl (naturally a boy)" who befriends one of Hollywood's music magnates who winds up inside the love-filled K-11.
