Hilary Duff shared her hopes that the show would be moved from Disney+ to Hulu so "the realities" of her character's "journey" in her 30s "wouldn't live under the ceiling of a PG rating."
As of December 2020, Lizzie revival has been cancelled. Hilary Duff stated "sadly and despite everyone's best efforts, it isn't going to happen," expressing that she would want "any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today" but a revival that "wasn't done right, wouldn't be worth doing."
It had been confirmed that the animated Lizzie would be returning, out-of-continuity animation displaying her thoughts and emotions.
While the first episode was filmed in New York, further episodes would be filmed in Los Angeles, California, as the start of the series sees Lizzie living in Brooklyn and then moving back to L.A.
Jake Thomas posted a picture on Instagram showing a scene resembling the original opening, hinting that the opening would also return.
