A Brilliant Little Movie!!
celluloidlover-111 August 2007
I recently caught this film at the Real to Reel Film Festival in North Carolina. I was at the screening to watch a friend's film - not expecting much from the other entries and then "Remembered" screened. I was mesmerized!! The scenery (shot on location in a desert outside L.A.) is absolutely gorgeous (with a nod to cinematographer John Sullivan).

John Myers underplays his role as the duplicitous bounty hunter with the nuance of a seasoned veteran. He is obviously an actor who understands the intimacy of the camera (a rare treat these days!!). Brian Lee Franklin (also functioning as writer and director) gives a star-making turn as the outlaw Jimmy Fremont. I was constantly reminded of Marlon Brando in "On The Waterfront" - a man completely at war with himself, displaying heartbreaking levels of internal angst. Mr. Franklin is that rare actor who can appear sensitive, emotionally vulnerable, and dangerous at the same moment.

There are a few obvious technical mis-steps (with focus and a lack of coverage) but hey, those things happen with even the biggest budget Hollywood films - for an indie-level budget short film this was a tremendous treat that one hopes will receive more exposure now or in the future for these budding young stars.
