Good movie
mzefabulous17 February 2020
It was a good movie but it had its faults. How was there an unopened door at the bottom of the staircase after Sara hid from the attacker, but the doors was locked when she first tried to open them to get away from the attacker?

Just one short comment - Why is it that NONE of the female characters in Lifetime movies have no ability to stop going off half cocked in murder movies. They just lurch from one dumb move to another! Could they give each female lead a Xanax as they start shooting!!

Much Ado About DNA
lavatch2 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"Her Secret Family Killer" (a.k.a., "DNA Killer") began with a clever premise. As a gift from her bestie Victoria, Sarah receives a DNA kit as a birthday present. Later, the DNA results may provide clues to the identity of killer on the loose in a small community. Unfortunately, the DNA evidence tended to drop out of the narrative, as the film turned into a routine killer-on-the-loose drama.

The filmmakers developed a large set of potential perps, including Sarah's brother Will, her cousin Lyle, and Roger, the town sheriff and wife of Victoria, who was the first victim of the killer. The next to go is April, Sarah's co-worker at Handel's ice cream parlor.

At a very young age, Sarah and Will lost their parents. So, the DNA test is important for Sarah in learning more about her roots. Eventually, she discovers that she has another brother, who was evidently sired by her father in a birth out of wedlock. But, once again, that plot strand seemed extraneous to the main murder plot that turned out to be a case of an insanely jealous husband out for revenge. We only meet the new brother, Cliff, as an afterthought in the denouement.

The pacing of the film was effective as the action moved along at a good clip. But the narrative was overly complicated with the DNA data, photos, phone records, an earring, red clay, and a long list of family members, including even the sinister old Aunt Windy. It was difficult for the audience and even the characters themselves to keep straight all of the names and relationships without a scorecard.

From start to finish, awful acting and ridiculous script - don't know how I actually went through the entire movie. Simply awful Lifetime Movie.

I'm watching the movie right now and the part "How was there an unopened door at the bottom of the staircase after Sara hid from the attacker, but the doors was locked when she first tried to open them to get away from the attacker?" from previous comment, I just noticed myself...lol

If you want a good chuckle

Lifetime movies make me laugh so much, they're just so bad. But I appreciate it! AND there's no need to tear apart the actresses appearance, the movie is horrible but there's never an excuse to be hateful.

I usually like well love the Lifetime Movies late 80s, ALL of great 90s, best ones made, hands down. Into 2000's pretty good, OK, now they are just well BLAH. This 1 is so dumb. I only finished watching it, (will not share spoilers) I however, only stopped watching, premised on, I had already today started to see it, and I did like the actress who played Victoria. That's it. I like realistic films, and more emotion is warranted, this was a film that could've been so much better. ONLY 1 for the director, "directing"this film." DARIN BROOKS of the BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL is why I am giving it overall a 1. He is handsome, cute, boyishly good looking, for years, on soaps, and I am impressed with his acting in it, no surprise. Fine actor on DAYS and BOLD soap.

Entertaining Enough

If we're talking about Lifetime standards here, this movie is one of the better ones I've seen. There's a compelling mystery, a good amount of suspects (so it isn't obvious at first), and some suspense/action.

Once again another female lead without talent. Where do they find them? This one has these bug eyes that are constantly popping out a small mouth and constantly messing with her hair, long, bleached and stringy. Ever hear of bobby pins? The plot is silly and the male cast fare better than the females, usual for LMN features. I guessed the killer right off the bat. I kept changing the channel not to be watching this female with the popeye eyes. I sometimes wonder how they get cast. Is there a strict code in hiring females with long bleached hair, over the top make up? It seems the male casting is more on target. Most of them, good looking, clean shaven, well groomed and fair actors with the material they are given. I wonder sometimes how they can keep a straight face when working with some of these females.

Okay watch

Its a good film to watch on a rainy afternoon. There isn't a Columbo style to this mystery flick because it doesn't want the audience to use their brains. It wanted no one to notice the doors opening at the bottom of the stairs when they were locked just before. A mistake that was overlooked. Other people have already pointed that out. Some lifetimes are not as clever as they used to be.

SPOILERS on Lifetime Movie Her Secret Family Killer. Seen better on You tube movies 1 hour long or less.

Warning: Spoilers
Right off the bat, I can't believe it. Where was the emo when you're learning your closest friend, or a loved 1 was found "brutally killed in a wooded area, or heck anywhere, just killed, left like a piece of trash?"No tear or two from um,let's see here, the um "bestie?" no call shown to 911, emotionally(emo) from "after she find the body dead, big whoop, that was IT!

Through the ENTIRE film, not one drop of tears or real emo(emotions) from any 1 and we didn't even see when the cops learned about poor Victoria! I do not like that, and it's like it went from 0 to 60 with a bullet, lightning fast speed!(from her being found to OH WELL, let me go home and "get a sparklie tall wine glass of a lil' somethin' somethin with my hubby Geoff." He was also boring, throughout, very very boring." I did not like it. Just finished watching it today. I think LMN did this movie as director a huge injustice. The storyline had alot of potential. I think I'll (for that)rate it a " 2, also because of 1 guy on there, i love. Actor Darin Brooks!" I was happy it was not him, but I loved best he was seemingly real sad about how he lost "Victoria." (calling Sarah from the jail cell.)I'm glad we seen GEEZ a tiny bit of realistic emotion, finally. Rest of it was really REALLY low-budget boredom. Heck, I've seen more better MOVIE TRAILERS/VIDEO CLIPS, movies on my You tube weekly. I feel bad for the director who has the potential, but did a really REALLY bad job.

BORING MOVIE. Nothing else to say, horrible.

Story Not plausable
dmichaelsKD14 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This story is not possible. A cop can not investigate his own wife's murder. Even if he is the only detective which I think is what they were implying but not sure because they just made a side comment and the police station looked like they would have had more detectives with all those cubicles in it.

then at the end they have the actors tell you the whole story in case you were to dumb to figure it out half way in the movie like I did.

anyway I gave it a couple stars because it was ok to watch even though there is no way it could happen.
