Cinematographer Eric Branco explained that he actually showed up to the interview with a bag full of street photography books; "Bruce Davidson, Matt Weber, Saul Leiter, Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson " for the director. From the beginning Radha wanted the footage to be shot on Black & white 35mm film.
The film is a New York tale that calls back to 'Hollywood Shuffle,' about a Black artist confronting the white gatekeepers on who gets to tell a Black story and how.
That's Radha Blank's very own apartment featured in the film. That really is her own mother's art adorning the walls. And her brother is played by her real brother.
The film was originally written as web series, although never got to shoot it.
