In New York, Lidia stops to buy an American newspaper. She hands the paperboy what appears to be a $5 bill, or perhaps a much less common $2 bill. In either case, a newspaper at that time would have cost minimal coins at most, depending on the particular newspaper and edition, and yet there is no gesture to offer change back nor to "keep the change," amounting to an unbelievably extravagant tip.
When all are in the basement of the hotel during a bombing scare, Lidia again asks Lancaster if he will help her find Sofia. Her lips, however, clearly say "a mi hija" in Spanish, asking if he would help her find her daughter.
