Cherry is married to a man named Jerome, who, despite his marriage, makes a bet with his friend, a lecherous villain named Manfred, that Manfred can seduce Cherry within 100 nights. Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

It’s been nearly a quarter of a century since Róisín Murphy and Mark Brydon, as electronic music duo Moloko, secured their biggest hit, “Sing It Back.” It’s worth looking back on who else populated the highest echelons of the U.K. charts the time, if only because it underscores how rare it is for an artist like Murphy to maintain such a creative streak. Even by the consistently high standard of her past work, though, Hit Parade represents a new creative peak.
The album contains some of Murphy’s most infectious melodies to date, but as with so much of Hit Parade, there’s far more to songs like “Fader” than just pop hooks. Behind the track’s not-quite-radio-friendly chorus and absurdist lyrics—“I lay eggs every single time I think of you”—lays an expert sample of “Window Shopping” by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Greta Lee, who is generating much buzz for her role in the acclaimed romantic drama Past Lives, has logged into Tron: Ares, the newest installment of Disney’s cybertech adventure movie series.
In what is described as a leading role, Lee now joins Jared Leto and Evan Peters in the feature, which is gearing up for an August shoot in Vancouver. The Masters of the Universe franchise is experiencing a major resurgence, with three new series on Netflix after a drought of animated content after the 2002 Motu series ended in 2004. The new era has been an altogether unexpected one for the franchise. Leading off with a new version of She-Ra, a character not seen in animation since the ‘80s, the show boldly aimed its stories at a new and more diverse group of viewers. Even with its eschewing of direct connections to He-Man the show delighted in its references and use of the wider Motu mythology.
Then we got Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Where many updates of old franchises simply take concepts and do a modern take on them, Revelation instead was a love letter to fans of the franchise. It wasn’t a reboot of He-Man, it was a continuation of the original show. It was filled to the brim with references and callbacks,...

The new Netflix series Masters of the Universe: Revelation isn’t just another reboot of a beloved franchise from back in the day. In fact, it’s not a reboot at all! Motu: Revelation is the truly rare Sequel series to an ‘80s animated series. Yes, that’s right, we aren’t getting He-Man rebooted yet again (remember that time He-Man went into space?) but instead a full-on sequel to the original 130-episode Filmation TV series.
With that in mind, how much about the original He-Man series is needed to enjoy Motu: Revelation? Is this something more casual fans can enjoy or do you need to be a hardcore He-Man fan? Can a new fan jump in here?
What you need to know from the jump is that Masters of the Universe: Revelation was made specifically with He-Man fans in mind. In fact there might never have been a new...

Whether you’re aware of it nor not, Tiffany Haddish plays a pretty significant role in the climax of Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe.
Haddish, whose name is catching many Disney+ viewers by surprise when they see it in the closing credits, lends her voice to the movie’s exploding aliens — emphasis on the “exploding” part. As explained by the aliens’ leader, “Candace!” is the sound they make when they suddenly explode from the waist up.

September marks the start of the traditional TV season. For many networks and cable channels, however, this will be an usual season with the coronavirus pandemic halting production leaving behind paltry fall lineups. Over on Netflix, however, things continue to operate at high capacity.
Netflix is rolling out quite a few original series and movies for its new releases in September 2020. The Hillary Swank-starring space drama Away premieres on September 4. That is followed by a whole host of intriguing concepts including Julie and the Phantoms (Sept. 10), Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (Sept. 18), and even the Nurse Ratched origin story series called Ratched (Sept. 18).
The film side of things is just as packed. Romantic comedy Love, Guaranteed premieres on Sept. 3, Charlie Kaufman’s latest effort I’m Thinking of Ending Things arrives on Sept. 4, and the Tom Holland-starring thriller The Devil All the Time bows on Sept. 16. That’s not even to mention Enola Holmes on Sept.

Based on Matt Ruff's 2016 critically acclaimed horror novel, the Jordan Peele-produced Lovecraft Country series is set to premiere on HBO on Aug. 16. If you're not familiar, the book version is actually a series of ultimately intertwining narratives. Each section has its own specific arc with its own lead character navigating through a different horrifying tale.
The TV version begins its narrative with the first chapter, which tells the story of Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors), a young Black man living in 1950s America, who is joined by his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) on a road trip to find his missing father (Michael K. Williams). Like the book, the upcoming series explores the contrast between classic H.P. Lovecraft horror fiction and the very real racism Atticus and his family experience in the Jim Crow South. In order to survive this journey, all must...

Set your nostalgia rays to the '80s. Some toy lines actually ended up as even better comic book series.
Comic book icons and heroes have been appearing on toy shelves since the days of Captain Action and Mego. But sometimes, toys that win the hearts and minds of kids of all ages are given their own comics, allowing toy fans to see their favorite bits of plastic in action by some of the best writers and artists in comics.
Many toys have graced the pages of comics over the years, including memorable curiosities like Sectaurs, Madballs, Visionaries, Go-Bots, and so many more, but there have been a few properties that have transcended their humble plastic roots to become the stuff of comic book legend.

Masters Of The Universe is on the hunt for a new director after the departure of Jon M. Chu, with Sony having reportedly whittled down the potential candidates into a shortlist. A quartet of new names have been linked to the vacant director’s chair, with Harald Zwart, Jeff Wadlow, Chris McKay and Mike Cahill all said to be in the running. Chu dropped out of the film nearly five months ago, on account of scheduling difficulties, with Zwart now thought to be the frontrunner after successfully helming Sony’s Karate Kid reboot and...

Neil deGrasse Tyson is an astrophysicist, who has appeared on "The Universe," "Nova ScienceNow," countless talk shows, and was voted "Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive" by People magazine in 2000. But his greatest strength is to apply his knowledge to pop-culture in order to get more people interested in science. This is why he has over a million Twitter followers. He recently was asked to approximate how much Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, would really weigh. He replied: "If Thor's hammer is made of neutron-star matter, implied by legend, then it weighs as much as a herd of 300-billion elephants." After some quick math, it turns out that 300 billion elephants is actually 4.5 quadrillion (4,500,000,000,000,000) pounds. That may be the reason why The Hulk had so much trouble with it in "The Avengers." Then again, it looks like Tyson didn't consider that it may only be heavy when an "unworthy" person lifts it. But in Thor's hands,...

Shame (20th Century Fox) Director Steve McQueen’s harrowing portrait of a Manhattan sex addict (Michael Fassbender, in the year’s most riveting performance) whose psyche goes into overload when his equally-troubled sister (Carey Mulligan) visits unexpectedly. Exquisitely-made on every level, save for the screenplay, which makes its point after about thirty minutes. While it tries hard to be a modern-day Last Tango in Paris, this fatal flaw makes it fall somewhat short. The much- ballyhooed sex scenes and frontal nudity are the least-interesting things about the film, incidentally, which is still a must-see for discriminating adults who seek out challenging material. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.
Being John Malkovich (Criterion) Spike Jonze’s madcap film of Charlie Kaufman’s script, regarding a socially-disenfranchised puppeteer (John Cusack) who finds a portal into the mind of actor...

The Grateful Dead might soon be flying "Across The Universe," or across the "Dark Star" in their situation. Apparently the same agent who helped organize the reimagining of the Beatles music catalog is planning to give the Grateful Dead the same treatment.
Deadline has learned that Bruce Kaufman now has the rights to the Grateful dead discography and is planning to put together a film to take advantage of the music. He's doing it with the support of Grateful Dead Properties manager Mark Pinkus and Grateful Dead archivist David Lenieux, though no producers or director have been brought on to the project yet.
The intention is to make a film similar in style to "Across The Universe" instead of a straight biopic. Deadline says Kaufman wants to make a film that "captures that psychedelic Haight-Ashbury hippie spirit of the late 60s and early 70s, grounded by Dead songs like 'Truckin',...

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (20th Century Fox) Sequel to the seminal 1980s film catches up with a weathered, but still determined Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas, who seems to savor every syllable of Allan Loeb and Stephen Schiff’s screenplay) just out of jail and back on the comeback trail. In attempting to repair his relationship with his estranged daughter (Carey Mulligan), Gekko forges a reluctant alliance with her fiancé (Shia Labeouf), himself an ambitious young turk who finds himself seduced by Gekko’s silver tongue and promise of riches. Lifeless film is further evidence of director Oliver Stone’s decline. Once America’s most exciting filmmaker, Stone hasn’t delivered a film with any teeth since 1995’s Nixon. Labeouf and Mulligan generate no sparks on-screen, and the story feels forced from the protracted opening to the final, Disney-esque denouement. Only a brief cameo by Charlie Sheen,...

The History Channel has an unfortunate history of sensationalizing history for the sake of entertainment. Consider the promo for the network’s recent special on the Tate/Labianca murders. It’s not enough that the program recounts the tragic events leading up to the Manson Family’s horrific crimes. The promo is edited like a slasher film, complete with a hard rock soundtrack, as if to attract Rob Zombie’s thrill-seeking fan base. As if that wasn’t offensive enough, the promo ends with the History Channel logo sprinkled with the type of CG blood that would be more at home on FEARnet.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0
This dumbed down approach to educational programming was apparent in the first couple seasons of “The Universe.” Apparently the creative minds behind this series didn’t think the mysterious nature of our surrounding existence was interesting enough to hold the attention spans of its Add-riddled viewers.

During the Cosmic Quandaries event in St Petersburg, our favorite astrophysicist Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson was answering questions about any and all galactic wonders. One of the topics that Tyson touched on was bad science in Hollywood movies. And while he completely ignored Michael Bay's "Armageddon," since it's just a fun movie, Tyson focused more on films that try to be accurate. His biggest complaint was with "Titanic" and director James Cameron. Watch the video below to hear Tyson explain the problem with the movie and what he did about it. Tyson has appeared on many shows about space, including "The Universe" and "Nova ScienceNow." He has also made appearance on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Daily Show," "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and multiple times on "The Colbert Report." And back in 2000, he was voted "Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive" by People magazine.

Do The Right Thing: 20th Anniversary Edition (Universal) Spike Lee’s groundbreaking fable about race relations in an ethnically mixed Brooklyn neighborhood during a sweltering New York summer remains as potent, timely and prescient as it was in 1989. Lee is among the cast, which also includes John Turturro, Danny Aiello, Samuel L. Jackson, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, and Rosie Perez (to name a few), that provide the tableaux-like framework for this stunning work. Criminally ignored by Oscar (it wasn't even nominated for Best Picture, but did garner nods for Supporting Actor Danny Aiello and Lee’s screenplay), it endures as a timeless classic. History repeat for 'Universe,' 'Underworld'
The History Channel has given series renewals to The Universe and Cities of the Underworld.
The network has given 13-episode orders to each series, which debuted this year. Universe will have its second-season premiere in the fourth quarter, while Cities will return in the first quarter of 2008.
Meanwhile, History.com said it is launching a new shortform series titled Backyard Astronomer that will serve as a companion to Universe. The series will help viewers identify stars and explain the different phases of the moon among other astronomy-related topics.
The Naked Underground, the broadband series that is an offshoot of Cities, also will be returning.
"It is imperative that we stay current and fresh in our approach to programming," said Nancy Dubuc, executive vp and GM at the History Channel. "Our strategy is to continue building our schedule around appointment television like 'Cities of the Underworld' and 'The Universe.' "
Universe is produced by Flight 33 Prods.; Cities is from Authentic Entertainment.
