- John meets with Kara and talks about how Jeremiah dead in the Peruvian Andes, helping at an alien refugee camp. Kara says that she's relived to know that Jeremiah was a good man, and John is sure that Jeremiah loved his daughters.
Kara and John go to get Alex for the funeral, and a drunk Alex says that she isn't going. She tells Kara that she's not in pain, and tells her that she doesn't feel the need to bury a man who hasn't been there for her for years. Kara insists that Jeremiah had changed and was hiding, but Alex says that Jeremiah disappeared after leaving Cadmus. Alex tells Kara that Jeremiah's obsession with keeping Kara safe led him to treat Alex like she wasn't worth his time. Kara asks what she should tell Eliza, and Alex doesn't care. She refuses to protect the Danvers again, and Kara leaves. Kelly tells John that she'll help Alex deal with her grief, and John follows after Kara.
Alex comes back out to get her bottle, and tells Kelly that she has no idea how she feels. She says that she's mourned the loss of her father multiple times, and she's hate being psychoanalyzed by her girlfriend. When Kelly apologizes, Alex tells her to leave her alone. Kelly says that she's there for her unconditionally and Alex can call her when she' ready. After Kelly leaves, Alex finds a box for the Platinum lenses that Kelly received. Alex puts them on and finds herself in the VR lobby of her memories. She finds one of her as a superhero and enters it, and flies into National City with a billboard of her as the city's superhero.
Later, Kelly is in her office and William comes in. Kelly says that she's giving Alex space and she has nothing to do but worry, and William says that Lex has launches 32 FDA-approves satellites into orbit above major cities that Lex is visiting on his Obsidian Platinum launch. Kelly has no idea how the satellites are involved with Platinum Obsidian, but admits that she and Alex are both suspicious of Lex's plans and Kelly is keeping an eye on him to prove he's not the hero that everyone thinks. She mentions the failsafe glitch and explains how Bates, exploited it for his own ends. William wonders if Bates was working with Lex, and asks what Alex would say. Kelly admits that Alex would say that with Lex, anything is possible.
SuperAlex flies above the VR National City, then flies down into a mall where a man is playing electric guitar for the crowd. A woman, Treasure Hunter Tilly, real name Bonnie, assumes that Alex is Supergirl and introduces herself. She says that most of the people are bots, and the simulation populates the VR world with faces familiar to the user. Tilly explains how you can spot a "NPC" by the three data stripes on their neck. When she asks why Alex is there, Alex is saying that she's taking a break from her real world. Tilly says that her sister Jill was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, but it's good in the VR world.
Tilly explains that the guitar player is in the VR world all the time, and his name is Derek. His wife is passed away, and Tilly figures that he stays in VR longer than is healthy. A helicopter arrives to lift Tilly out, and a dragon flies in, knocking the guitarist down. Alex catches them and Derek thanks her and is surprised when she says that they're in VR.
In the real world, Rob lies among the comatose Platinum users, with Bates and the others.
Alex takes on the dragon, using her heat vision on it. It flies out and disappears in a puff of smoke, and the people cheer Alex. She lands on the stage, and tells a reporter that she's going to get a bite to eat.
Kelly finds no evidence that Lex was connected to Bates, and William wonders if Lex will target the VR system. She discovers that the failsafe wasn't patched, and tells Andrea that the repair order was put in but the funds haven't been released. Andrea notes that there haven't been any cases since, and says that the non-release was a bureaucratic snafu and she'll get it taken care of. She insists that they shouldn't panic their users, and insists that she would never let their consumers do anything that could harm them.
Alex goes to a restaurant to eat blueberry pancakes, and Tilly finds her. When Alex figures that Kelly could come there and eat the panics, Tilly wonders who Kelly is and Alex admits that she was a jerk to her. She explains about how her father passed her away and treated her like an equal, and she realized that it was unfair of him to put all of the burden on Alex. She came into the VR to find some freedom for herself, but she doesn't feel better because Jeremiah is still dead. Alex admits that Kelly is right and she has a lot to work through, and says that it's time to go back to the real world. Tilly has no idea what the "real world" is. The owner, Mac, offers them another round, and Alex asks about Jill. Tilly has no memory of Jill or her cancer, or that her real name is Bonnie.
John contacts Alex and says that they need her at the DEO. Mac says that they'll make sure Tilly gets where she needs to go, and Alex wishes Tilly good luck.
In the real world, Tilly lies in her camper, comatose and holding a photo of her and Jill. Margot and her men come in and take Tilly away.
The VR SuperAlex flies to the VR DEO, and finds John in command. He says that a missile was stolen by , and the VR Dreamer prompts SuperAlex to fly around the city to spot the missile as it comes in. VR Hank Henshaw contacts SuperAlex on a higher frequency and says that he stole the missile as a distraction while he kidnapped Kara. An overly dramatic VR Querl confirms that it's true, and John warns that Hank must know Alex's secret identity. Hank tells SuperAlex to get the missile warhead and deliver it, or he'll reveal SuperAlex's secret history and kill Kara. John tells SuperAlex not to let feelings cloud her justice, and SuperAlex insists that she can handle it.
SuperAlex delivers the missile to Hank, who says that Jeremiah ambushed him and left him for dead. He draws a gun and ensnares SuperAlex in a Kryptonite snare, and discovers that it's a dummy warhead. He plans to use the missile to destroy the DEO, and Alex says that she doesn't need anyone to save her and breaks the bonds.
Hank and SuperAlex fight, and SuperAlex finally throws Hank through a crate. John calls to tell SuperAlex that they rescued Kara, and SuperAlex promises Hank that he'll never hurt her family again.
Kelly tells William what Andrea said, but points out that Lex is a member of the board. William figures that Lex might have changed the Platinum VR to trap people, and Kelly has a list of 500 people who have been using the VR for 48 hours or more. Nobody has called in that they're comatose, and William agrees to help Kelly call them.
Back at the VR DEO, John tells SuperAlex that Kara is fine and back at CatCo. He asks if something is on her mind, and SuperAlex says that it feels like she's forgotten something. She tells John that she has her team and her family, and it all feels right. John points out that she saved everyone, and she's feeling happiness. They go to Al's to celebrate, and Abraham Lincoln performs karaoke. Vita comes out, dismisses the person using the Lincoln VR, and makes a joke about John Wilkes Booth. When one audience member boos Vita, she incinerates him with her head vision, recognizes SuperAlex as another Kryptonian, and calls her up.
Tilly is there and offers a toast to SuperAlex, and Vita tells her that she's spared. Querl goes to get drinks while in the real world, Alex lies on her couch and smiles.
Kelly and William make their calls, and William confirms that none of the VR users are trapped. Kelly hasn't found anyone trapped and hasn't been able to reach Alex. William suggests that she visits Alex in person while he checks with his contact in the NSA.
At the VR bar, Alex goes to the bar and finds Mac there. He gets her a drink in the house, and then another woman in a Supergirl costume arrives and Mac says the identical thing. SuperAlex has no idea what the woman is talking about when she says that it's a simulation, and SuperAlex realizes that it isn't real. After the other woman goes to get someone, John and Querl come over and asks SuperAlex if she's okay. She figures that she should leave, shuts down the simulation, and takes out the Platinum lenses. She discovers that Kelly has been trying to reach her, and John calls her and says that Psi has launches a psychic attack to make everyone doubt their reality. Alex opens her shit, revealing her SuperAlex costume, says that she's on the way, and flies out the window.
Kelly returns to the apartment and finds Alex comatose on the couch. She gives Alex an injection of adrenaline to wake her up but it doesn't work. Kelly then puts on her own pair of contact lenses to enter the simulation. Alex is at the DEO tossing Psi in a cell, and Kelly appears and says that Alex might have been affected by the same glitch that Bates trigger. Alex has no idea that she's in a simulation, and tells John and Querl that Psi must have gotten to Kelly. Querl shows video of Psi attacking Alex, and Dreamer comes to say that there's a bank robbery in progress that only Alex can stop. Alex tells Kelly go to with Querl and John, and leaves.
Kelly ends the simulation, calls Andrea, and says that there's a Platinum malfunction. She figures that Alex had a mild psychotic break, and Andrea tells her that they need to confront Alex with something that is unexplainable but undeniable. Kelly figures that they need to show VR Alex the real Alex, and programs a photo of Young Alex into the simulation.
In the simulation, Alex captures the bank robbers and hands them over to the police. One of the robbers is Young Alex, and when Alex removes her mask Young Alex says that she's been sent to show Alex something that she needs to see. Young Alex insists that none of it is real, and John and Querl arrive. They offer to take her back to the DEO medbay, and Young Alex asks if Alex is afraid to face reality.
Alex takes her younger self's hand, and they appear in the Cadmus facility where she last saw Jeremiah. Jeremiah appears in the distance, and Alex goes to confront him. John, Dreamer, and Querl arrive and shoot Young Alex, claiming that she's a shapeshift. Alex doesn't believe them. She superspeeds to where Jeremiah is working at a control panel. When she touches his shoulder, he disappears. Young Alex tells Alex that there was nothing in real world Alex could do, there was nothing Alex could do to save him even if she was Supergirl. Jeremiah's life was a result of his choices , not theirs. Young Alex tells Alex that they have people in the real world that love them, while the VR simulations are trying to lock them in.
John, Querl, and Dreamer arrive and attack Young Alex and Alex. Eliza appears and tells Alex that Young Alex is dangerous and they're her family, not Young Alex. All of the simulations fire on Young Alex, and Alex blocks the blasts and then freezes them with her ice breath. They explode and disappear, and Yong Alex disappears as well. Alex ends the simulation and wakes up in the real world.
Kelly comes over and proves she's real by telling Alex that she's sad but it's going to be okay. The two women hug and Alex thanks Kelly for not giving up on her. She apologizes for being a jerk, pushing everyone away. Alex admits that she's been angry at Jeremiah for abandoning her and Kara, and she always thought he would come back into their lives. When she learned that Jeremiah was dead, she got mad at everyone but was mat at herself because she couldn't save him. Kelly assures Alex that she's a warrior, not hopeless. Alex explains that she wasn't the only person who is lost in VR, and figures Bonnie and Derek were trapped as well. Kelly says that she's on it, but says that they need to get Alex to Midvale first for the funeral.
At CatCo, William listens to a report about Lex making an appearance in Madrid to promote Platinum CVR. Kelly texts William saying that shed freed Alex, and he then gets a text of where the VR prisoners might have been taken.
Kelly calls Andrea to tell her that Alex is okay. Andrea then calls Gemma but gets her voicemail. She orders a diagnostic write-up on the failsafe... unaware that Eve is the one taking the order.
William tracks down the building where Margot is holding the comatose VR-trapped people. Margot cloaks the room so William can't see any of them or her. He looks around briefly and then leaves, and Margot drops the cloak. As he goes, William finds a medical bracelet on the floor and wonders what Lex is up to.
At the church in Midvale, Eliza says that Jeremiah was a caring husband and a great father. Alex and Kelly come in and sit with Kara and the others, and Alex apologizes to Kara. Kara hugs her and says that it doesn't matter because she's there now.
