After gracing fans with a reunion interview involving the majority of the cast for the Resident Evil live-action cutscenes, the folks at Residence of Evil have surprised us again with not only getting a sit-down interview with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, but also bringing along Grasshopper Manufacture’s Suda51! Hosted by RoE’s JJ Trulock and Andreas Sperling, Mikami and Suda51 chat mainly on their upcoming Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, but also tackled questions about Killer 7, Dino Crisis, and of course, Resident Evil.
Recorded at Gamescom, Mikami and Suda51 kicked things off with Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered. When asked how the game compares to action titles of today, Mikami stated that the remake has the “same taste” as it did 13 years ago. “So, today’s games are becoming more realistic. While the action and pace are still not so realistic, I think it’s...

The demands and requests for a Dino Crisis remake have been growing over the years. Fans of the survival horror game have been seeing its competitors from back in the day brought into the modern generation of gaming and wonder when it would be their turn next.
Released in 1999, the game is now over two decades old but still has a pretty strong fan base. A remake for the same could do very well, but it seems Shinji Mikami may not feel the same, and that is not going to go down well with the community.

Having worked together in the past, these two Japanese creatives are friends and very popular in the industry. Suda51, the creator of games like No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned, and more, often collaborates with the creator of Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami.
During a recent interview, Suda51 revealed that Shinji Mikami’s favorite game is God Hand. He even joked about how they should jointly acquire the rights to this game and make a new version. This title is unique because it has many mechanics that could easily fit into a Suda51 game.

Resident Evil creators Goichi Suda, also known by his alias Suda 51, and Shinji Mikami have shown an interest in developing a sequel to the 2005 video game Killer7. Both individuals have co-written the game but that was it. Suda was always interested in the sequel, as the game is “part of his soul.”
A video game dubbed “Killer is Dead” was released by Grasshopper Manufacturing, and fans spread the word that it was a sequel. Later, it was clarified that it had nothing to do with the 2005 game.

Its unconventional visual style has made Killer7 distinct from its contemporaries. Fans would love to see that experience continue alongside some new narrative.
But then there’s Capcom, that has got the IP rights to the game.

If Capcom was a Hollywood director, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess would be the epitome of a “one for me” project, the kind of thing you hope a creative entity would spend its clout on after delivering a long string of hits. It represents a long overdue return to the kind of game that Capcom was making in the mid-aughts with wildly imaginative brio, when it was throwing all sorts of ideas at the wall to see what stuck. This is the period that gave us the likes of Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe, Ōkami, God Hand, and No More Heroes, critical darlings that failed to set the charts on fire but hold a place of honor in many an intrepid gamer’s heart.
Kunitsu-Gami feels like a late arrival to a party that got cut short nearly 20 years ago. It is, at heart, a tower defense game, but it’s...

It turns out, we won’t have to wait until Gamescom this year to hear more about Grasshopper Manufacture’s Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, as the developer has released a 40-minute “Grasshopper Direct 2024 Behind the Scenes Special” focusing on the remaster. Grasshopper Manufacture community manager Grasshopper James is joined by the company’s CEO (and now executive producer on Hella Remastered) Suda 51 and producer Shinji Mikami, as well as members of the devteam to dive into the remaster, which is set to arrive this Halloween.
As is the norm for Grasshopper Manufacture, the special is a bit on the wacky side (Suda51 chastises Mikami for not going to Pax East with them), but they still get into how the preview build for Hella Remastered went over at Pax East. “I wanted to do this remaster for a long time,” says Suda51. However, due to licensing with EA,...

With Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP having a September release date, where does that leave the remaster of Grasshopper Manufacturer’s Shadows of the Damned? This Halloween, to be exact. Grasshopper Manufacture has announced that Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will arrive on October 31 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are now open, with the PlayStation version giving you three days of early access to the game.
Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will include a New Game+ mode, support for 4K resolution at 60 fps, and four additional costumes: “Demonio Garcia,” “Ocho Corazones,” “Placa Garcia,” and “Kamikaze Garcia.”
Per the trailer, Suda 51 (No More Heroes, Killer7, Lollipop Chainsaw) and Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil, The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo) will be attending this year’s Gamescom, so we could very well get more info on Hella Remastered at that time.

Children of the Sun is a pulpy fever dream developed by one man and published by Devolver Digital. If you took Suda 51’s Killer7, and combined it with Sniper Elite, SuperHot and Mandy, then you’d end up with something resembling René Rother’s Children of the Sun. It works beyond just being a dynamic piece of visual art too, containing some extremely satisfying gameplay that feels crunchy and tactile.
Children of the Sun is out now for PC.
Let’s just get the discussion of the game’s visuals out of the way first, because Children of the Sun is truly striking to look at. In terms of its presentation, it resembles a particularly nasty 70s grindhouse movie that has been thoroughly soaked in bleach. It is extremely stylish, at times reminding me a lot of the visual flair seen in El Paso, Elsewhere.
In fact, it shares more with El Paso,...

The anticipated remaster of Grasshopper Manufacturer’s Shadows of the Damned now has a new title and confirmed platforms. Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will arrive later this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Wishlisting is available now via PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam. And, if you’re attending Pax East this weekend, you can get a chance to play the demo of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered at the NetEase Games booth.
Described as a “hot-blooded, hellishly twisted, feverishly filthy, love and hate filled road trip”, Shadows of the Damned (in case you didn’t know) is from the minds of Goichi Suda aka Suda51 and Shinji Mikami.
Originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011, Shadows of the Damned put players in the boots of Garcia Hotspur, a hard-as-nails, leather-clad, motorcycle-riding professional demon hunter who finds...

September and school have begun, so settle in for some new additions to Netflix this month that will provide comfort amid summertime blues. Those in the mood for love might enjoy the adaptation of Jennifer E. Smith’s book, “Love at First Sight” starring Ben Hardy and Haley Lu Richardson, or the arrival of Sony’s “Love Again” starring Priyanka Chopra and Sam Heughan. Those not aiming for straight rom-com, but a mix of humor and heart will look forward to the fourth and final season of “Sex Education” and the shenanigans of Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa), Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) and more.
More serious cinema lovers can look forward to Viola Davis’ Oscar-winning performance in “Fences” (2016) arriving Sept. 1. Eminem’s biographic film “8 Mile” will also arrive that day. Reality lovers can watch Season 4 of “Love Is Blind: After the Altar” before the new Season...

There were two bigger box office hits in China over the Lunar New Year, but the returns enjoyed by Boonie Bears: Guardian Code may, in hindsight, turn out to be the result that actually points to an emerging trend in Chinese cinema.
The country’s animation industry is certainly hoping so.
In collecting an estimated $136 million (Rmb 924 million) over its eight-day festive-season run, the ninth installment of the Boonie Bears franchise found itself tucked in behind two blockbusters: veteran helmer Zhang Yimou’s period thriller Full River Red, collector of an estimated $465 million (Rmb 3.16 billion), and Frank Guo’s sci-fi sequel The Wandering Earth 2 with $378 million (Rmb 2.57 billion).
But the bigger picture is how the film held its own against two such high-profile releases on its way to a total of more than $220 million (Rmb 1.5 billion), and amid reports that it had been sold to a slew of international markets,...
