This is a production with an animal you can watch with the whole family, while the older ones will enjoy both the dog and the solving of the (minor) crimes, the kids will mostly enjoy the great, cute, clever dog - and they can. Other animal movies (like A dog's way home) are sometimes much too cruel and tragic in particular for a younger audience, but the adventures of police dog Kalle, his family life and all the other nice characters are just pure fun, make you smile. Some may see it as a light version of Inspector Rex, the German-Austrian crime show with the German shepherd - a fine show, as well, sure - but Kalle shows that little dogs can be great as well, and while it sometimes may seem a bit naive, there is nothing wrong with harmless entertainment that warms your heart, and the show is never (too) cheesy, and the crime stories are not too bad, either. I do not need murder and violence and fight all the time, this show is just great, great storytelling, great cast(s) (the actors vary a bit over the seasons), great dog.
