Exclusive: Head Gear Films has announced a formal partnership with asset management firm Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI), which solidifies the company’s international stronghold in media funding.
Together, the two companies will focus on expanding investment in film, television and gaming productions globally and will build upon Head Gear’s robust track record of more than 350 funded projects with more than $300M of deployed capital across the last two decades. 143 of the 588 titles released this year were made by women.
The number of films made by women and released in the UK dropped by 6 in 2022, according to figures from female-focused film organisation Birds Eye View.
Out of the 588 titles to receive a theatrical release in the UK this year, 143, or 24, were made by women. For a film to qualify it must be directed or co-directed and/or written or co-written (with at least 50 film credit) by women.
This figure is down 6 from 2021 when 166 titles (30) qualified.

Universal’s survival thriller Beast is the widest release among the features debuting at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, however event cinema André Rieu’s 2022 Maastricht Summer Concert: Happy Days Are Here Again boasts the overall largest figure.
Beast is directed by Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur. The survival thriller stars Idris Elba as a grieving widower, who must protect his daughters from a voracious lion. It is set to play at 601 sites this weekend.
Kormakur’s best known for 2015 real-life disaster thriller, Everest, which opened to £2.4m from 567 sites.

The total U.K. and Ireland box office for July 2022 was £126.5 million (152.7 million), according to numbers released by Comscore. While the number is a significant chunk above June’s 116 million, it is still running 20 behind the same period in pre-covid 2019.
“Minions: The Rise Of Gru” debuted at No.1 with £10.4 million, achieving the highest opening of an animated film for 2022. With a total of £35.5 million, the film is now the highest-grossing animation of the year, and No.19 in the all-time animation chart, behind “The Secret Life Of Pets” (£36.5 million).
At No.2, “Thor: Love And Thunder” scored the fourth-highest opening of 2022 with £12.2 million. With a total of £32.3 million, the film is now the sixth-highest grossing film of the year. In third position, late June release “Elvis” added a further £14.7 million for a total of £21.9 million.
After ten weeks on release, Tom Cruise vehicle “Top Gun: Maverick” continued to soar and is the No.
