A shody piece of work
billcarr3127 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I give this a very low rating because of the shoddy direction and fakery. BG and BL are crossing a mangrove swamp. He says putting mud on ones skin is good protection against mosquiteos. He put s a good bit on himself but a few minutes later we see BL with only a streak on either side of her face, BG a bit more. Then they find somewhat improbably a small abandoned boat. He says the anchor rope will get them across the crocodile infested water. The rope happens to lie conveniently between the boat and their position. It appears to be attached to the cabin, surely if it was the anchor rope it would be over the side without knowing whether the attachment point is secure he tightens the rope to a tree, and attempts to cross commando style, halfway cross he is practically in the water. No crocodiles appear and when BL crosses she ends up hanging from below the rope and in the water, again no crocs appear. Then they find an inflatable dinghy which he says is bottomless. In spite of that they manage to inflate it, the pump is not visible, while plugging a small hole with a stick. Next the bottomless boat is used as a hammock!. He is supposed to make hammock for himself out of fish net. We never see this hammock and there is hardly enough space for a hammock beneath the suspended dinghy anyway. Next morning they appear bright and fresh with no trace of insect bites and clean faces that look like they had just been showered. Of course she would not want to hide her actress face and it would look odd if he was still covered in mud. It is obvious they either had mosquito nets or did not sleep there.. Then they make it to the cliff edge and must abseil down. BG then miraculously produces two helmets from his pack. The camera keeps cutting to waves crashing on jagged rocks but there are clearly no rock below where they are abseiling. Finally they board a high power speed boat and speed off like in a Bond movie. All that on one grub and one crab claw each for sustenance. I used to like Grylls' stuff when he was soloing.in remote places but this is just not up to his standard. I understand he cannot get the 'star' to do what all that he does and the insurance premiums must be stratospheric, but why do it at all except to make more money, if he wants to do it. demand a higher standard of direction. I am sure he watches the final cuts so I do not understnd why he permits this sloppy work. In another episode with Channing Tatum, they come out of freezing cold water and without ringing out their sodden clothes, put their outer clothing on over the wet ones. Nobody would do that in a real survival situation. BG you are better than this.
