On the plane to the island to meet Brian Speer, Cousin Hugh is clearly seated in the row directly behind the actors.

When Matt talks to Elizabeth alone in her hospital room, Elizabeth's mouth is open in the far shot, but closed in the close-up.

When Matt meets Brian for the first time in the beach house, Brian is wearing a blue and white checkered shirt. While talking alone in the kitchen, the back collar of the shirt alternates between down and folded up between shots.

After Julie has left the hospital room and Matt is looking at Elizabeth, her right hand is away from her left. In the next shot, from behind Elizabeth, her right hand is turned closer to her left, even though she can't move her hands.

During the final scene where they are scattering Elizabeth's ashes, the leis that George Clooney and Shailene Woodley are wearing have noticeable yellow and red bows on them respectively. In the long shot moments later when they remove their leis and place them in the water, the bows are nowhere to be seen.

The resort models shown could not be built. Kaua'i's "coconut tree" building law states that new construction cannot be more than 4 stories tall.

But this Princeville hotel is a real hotel because it's built on a hill. The Top floor is at ground level and the hotel is built with multiple stories going down to the Ocean.

In Hawai'i, you must be five miles from shore before scattering ashes/cremains into the ocean. When the Kings are in their canoe, Waikiki is too close, they are no more than a half mile from land.

The credits thank Oahu County, which does not exist. The island of Oahu is in Honolulu County.

En route from Lihue to Princeville, Matt convinces his cousin to divert to visit the family land. The road from Lihue to Princeville hugs the coast, always to the right. They turn left, inland, and after a while come to beautiful beachfront property, and there are no roads which cross the island of Kauai.

At the movie's end, Matt & his daughters watch a documentary in which the commentary implies that Antarctica became covered in ice because it moved south due to tectonic drift. Although no longer a tropical paradise, Antarctica remained forested until as recently as 20 million years ago, after its final separation from South America created a circumpolar ocean current which isolated the continent's weather.
