North and the Music of the South (2006)
*** (out of 4)
This here is a nice tribute to Alex North, the man who wrote the score for A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. Record producer Robert Townson, who befriended North a few years before his death, talks about the STREETCAR score and bring certain attention to a few scenes. Townson talks that the score really isn't a Jazz one and then gives examples to back this up. We then take a look at a few scenes from the movie and see what North did with the score. We also get to listen to a few unused cues from the movie. Finally, we get to see the tribute Townson and Jerry Goldsmith did by re-doing some of North's most famous scores including this one. This 9-minute featurette certainly isn't anything ground-breaking but fans of the film and the score should enjoy the tribute. We get to hear an expert talk about the score but also share a few stories about North.
