In 1916, Gabriele D'Annunzio lost his right eye in a plane accident, and from there on, he had all his newspapers reprinted on a single column to facilitate reading, and wrote all his poems only on the left part of the page. In the movie, set between 1936 and 1938, he sees, reads and writes normally.
