- William Hoy: It is not enough that the deaf candidate for baseball honors has the necessary ability. He assuredly must have the nerve and the courage to apply for a trial.
- William Hoy: The deaf candidate must use tact and diplomacy when negotiating terms. He must so conduct respect to his teammates, both on and off the field.
- William Hoy: While this dream of an all-mute baseball team will hardly come true in the immediate future there is room, nevertheless, for a mute or two in the big leagues now. It only remains for them to come boldly forward and make a try.
- Joan Sampson: As the oldest living member of the Hoy family, my hope is that my grandfather, Dummy Hoy, will be remembered; not just because he was a deaf ball player, but because he was a great ball player and a great human being.
