Lockwood West and Olive Carleton-Crowe, the parents of Timothy West who plays Private Godfrey in the remakes, originally met while appearing in a production of the play "The Ghost Train" by Arnold Ridley, who played Private Godfrey in the original series of Dad's Army (1968)
None of the three episodes featured the famous lines "You stupid boy!" (spoken by Captain Mainwaring to Private Pike) or "We're doomed!" (spoken by Private Frazer), so the scripts were slightly altered to include them.
Although the equipment used was optimised for modern, widescreen televisions, each episode used the original shooting scripts to make them as close to shot-for-shot remakes as possible. This meant that they had significantly less shots per episode compared to modern sitcoms.
Although the three original episodes are missing from the BBC archive, the audio of A Stripe for Frazer (1969) was recovered in 2008 from a tape recording of the episode's original transmission. This was used to create Dad's Army: A Stripe for Frazer, Animated (2016) in 2016.
Rather than wearing a bald cap for the desired effect, Kevin McNally shaved his head to achieve Captain Mainwaring's famous bald-pate.
