In the 1960s, the BBC had a policy of repeating television episodes no more than once, and often reused expensive videotape to record new programmes. As a result, many TV episodes were lost. This includes the three episodes from Series 2 of Dad's Army that form this series, which are the only three from the entire series run to be missing from the BBC archive.
As of 2019, when the series was made, only Ian Lavender (Private Pike) and Frank Williams (the Vicar) of the major members of the cast remained alive. As a consequence, no cast members from the original series are in the remakes.
