Disney Plus’ vice president of nonfiction originals Dan Silver has exited the streamer for a new role at Netflix, Variety has confirmed.
Silver will take on the role of director of documentary feature films at Netflix. He will report to Lisa Nishimura, vice president of independent film and documentary features.
Silver has a long history at the Mouse House, having held roles at Disney Plus, Marvel Entertainment, ABC News Digital, and ESPN Films. In his most recent role, he oversaw the launch of Disney Plus’ unscripted slate that included shows like “The Imagineering Story,” “Marvel’s 616,” and “Marvel’s Hero Project.”
Silver’s exit also comes as Disney has undergone a massive restructuring under CEO Bob Chapek, which was announced in October. The Walt Disney Television Group also recently announced a significant restructuring under Dana Walden, which has led to large-scale layoffs.

Disney Plus is barely a year-old streaming service, but it already has cornered a particular sub-genre of unscripted programming that should surprise no one. Shows like “Inside Disney, “One Day at Disney” and “Marvel’s Hero Project” offer in-depth looks at the creative minds behind the Walt Disney Company and its extraordinary impact on the world, pairing inspirational stories with swelling triumphant music to underline just how fantastic Disney’s multi-billion dollar conglomerate truly is. “Propaganda” is probably too strong a word, but it’s not altogether wrong, either. The purpose of these shows, first and foremost, is to underline Disney’s unique place in entertainment and publicize its most heartwarming effects. So when I first turned on “Marvel’s 616,” I figured I knew I’d be in for — but was only halfway right.

It’s time to check out what Disney+ UK has planned for June! Last month, the streaming service added Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as its centrepiece, and this month will see the arrival of a first-look premiere in Kenneth Branagh’s new family film Artemis Fowl, which has skipped its cinema release and landed on Disney+. The big budget movie is based on the bestselling book by Eoin Colfer, and follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he sets out to find his missing dad. The project boasts a stellar cast that includes Ferdia Show, Colin Farrell, Josh Gad and Judi Dench. We’ll at least get a quick chance to guess for ourselves if it would have been a box office hit for the mouse house or not.

Disney Plus has revealed the full list of movies and TV shows, both original and pre-existing content, that will be coming to the streaming service over the next month. The site will be adding the new titles to its library in three batches throughout June. It’s not the biggest haul of new material if we’re being honest, but there are a few key items you’ll want to look out for.
Most notably, Artemis Fowl is hitting Disney Plus on June 12th. The fantasy movie directed by Thor‘s Kenneth Branagh, and based off the popular Ya novels by Eoin Colfer, was originally set to debut in theaters but has been switched to a streaming release given the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the first time the studio has made such a move, but it’s been noted they may do so again if this one turns out to be successful.

Disney has been forced to scrap plans for a glitzy European press launch for Disney+ in London this week after the event became one of the latest industry gatherings to be hit by coronavirus fears.
Disney was hosting the party at the Exhibition London event space on March 5 to “celebrate the European launch of Disney+.” It was set to include “exclusive” presentations from key executives and creative heads, while a number of special guests were expected to attend.
However, the company has axed the event, which was expected to host hundreds of people, over fears of the global pandemic, which has so far killed over 3,000 people with over 90,000 infected. Instead, Disney will promote the Disney+ launch through social media and press notices. The company will also showcase the streaming service to select journalists during a demo in central London on Friday.

The Disney+ app will be made available on Sky after the two companies struck a “multi-year” deal.
Sky customers in the UK and Ireland with the Sky Q box will be able to pay for access to Disney+ after it launches March 24, giving them access to originals such as The Mandalorian.
Disney+ will sit alongside other apps, including Netflix and iPlayer, on Sky Q, while it will also launch on Sky’s streaming service Now TV over the coming months.
As part of the deal, Comcast-owned Sky will continue to hold first pay window rights to 20th Century titles, meaning its customers will be able to watch films including Terminator: Dark Fate.
Sky declined to comment on the terms of the deal and whether it will still carry Disney films and have access to The Simpsons under the new arrangement. For now, both are covered under Sky and Disney...

Yesterday I wrote up on the names of films and TV shows that would be leaving Netflix over the month of March. Now, the circle of life streaming services dictates that today I bring you the names of films and TV shows that will be joining the new kid on the block, Disney Plus. Some of these titles will be familiar to those who read the previous piece, too, and they at least start out easily recognizable.
March 1 – Doctor Doolittle 2, Ice Age (everybody knows what they are). March 4 – Black Panther (ex-Netters). March 5 – Bedtime Stories (getting obscurer). March 6 – The Finest Hours, Three on the Run (completely lost now).
This is where things get messy, as we’ve got a whole bunch of TV stuff that I doubt anyone is subscribing to Disney Plus for, except… maybe Star Wars: The Clone Wars? Some people are into that, for some reason. Anyway, if...

We don’t need to tell you that Disney+ arrived last year with a ton of exciting content available from day one.
From Pixar to Marvel Studios, Star Wars to all those Disney classics, the first batch of subscribers were certainly spoilt for choice when it came to things to watch. And while original series like The Mandalorian have been hogging most of the spotlight – and for good reason – there’s a lot more coming down the pipeline that viewers can look forward to over the next few weeks.
Indeed, the full list of content headed to Disney Plus next month has now been revealed, and with highlights like Toy Story 4, the new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the return of The Sandlot, it’s time to start getting excited.
For a full rundown, you can see below:

Lorelei, the upcoming subject on Marvel’s Hero Project, finds power in helping those like her with heart defects in this exclusive clip.
Marvel’s Hero Project on Disney+ has made a name for itself by drawing parallels between the inspirational actions of kids who have achieved amazing things within their communities and the superheroes in the Marvel lineup. Each episode in the docuseries features a new young hero who has triumphed over difficulty or effected positive change in the world, and this week’s installment featuring Lorelei, a young girl born with a congenital heart defect, is no exception.
Lorelei was born without a functioning left ventricle in her heart and has undergone more than thirty life-saving procedures, after one of which she was given an adult-size "compression heart pillow" to manage pain. Unfortunately, the pillow was too large to properly help her or others in her situation,...

While there’ve been Marvel characters in the past who appeared to be trans, or somewhere on the Lgbt spectrum, the company have now announced their first official transgender superhero. The Mighty Rebekah is inspired by a 12-year-old transgender girl of the same name and forms part of Marvel’s Hero Project series on Disney Plus. As part of the show, the Mighty Rebekah has her own comic book, too, the first issue of which is available to read on Marvel’s website for free.
Rebekah and her family have been active in trans and general Lgbt rights in New Jersey, including the Garden State Equality organization, which aims to tackle misinformation about transgender people in society. Furthermore, Rebekah has appeared before New Jersey lawmakers to push for Assembly Bill 1335, which mandates that schools include Lgbt history as part of their curriculum.
