Heading towards the light
tristan_1915 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Both literally and figuratively. Huck's backstory was really good and the directing was on point. Finally, we get an episode that is quite engaging. Percy is really interesting and Hope struggles about the news she learned in the last episode. Sometimes, you have to carry the burden to let the others live and sometimes you gotta live throughout dark times before being able to find the light again in this universe. The ending was really good and brought a little twist. I guess we still don't know for sure what happened, but Silas seemed to be responsible there. Or is he ? Percy looked a little sketch in the episode. One of the greatest scenes we got tho is when Huck had to talk Hope's captor out of killing her. I'd rate this 8.3/10.

A pleasant surprise

Warning: Spoilers
For the first time, I actually enjoyed this, and the show is heading in the right direction. I was fearful after reading the synopsis but things finally get interesting here. The flashbacks for Huck offer the devestating origins of her scar, plus Hope (I think, I still get confused between which ones called Hope and which ones Iris) torturing herself over her secret is an interesting watch. The real strong point comes with the ending that showcases a relatively thrilling cliffhanger that makes us want more for the first time since the show began. I struggle to rate this any higher because the performances are still poor and the dialogue is still questionable, but I hope this is a sign that the show is now on the right track.

I'm confused
kingsx_6417 November 2020
When Annet Mahendru (Huck) was on a show called The Americans. She was flawless. Every scene she was in, she was spot on.

So how can she be so so so bad here? I'm confused.

I'll go out on a limb here and say casting Annet as a marine with a southern accent was just not good casting.

I agree with many who say the acting is really bad for a series that is known for really GOOD acting. Aliyah Royale as Iris is flat out terrible. Alexa Mansour as Hope is like listening to a robot with teen angst. Ick Thing is, I have zero problem with the three dudes acting. I see nothing wrong with them.

Which means, it isn't the director or story, (which is kinda stupid), it's the inability to 'like' the 3 female leads. And I don't. At all.

So whoever the casting director was,,, you are not very good at your job. Yes, the story may suck, but at least the dudes are doing ok.

But since there is so much crap on tv, I'll continue watching to see if the girls learn to act along the way. Gonna be tough though. They got a lot to learn.

This episode was ok.

A silver lining
lostjedi15 November 2020
Finally. I only watched this because I wanted some distraction on a worky weekend, after the first episodes not realling hoping anything of interest would happen. As other episodes, it began quite slowly (teenie stuff...), but then truth or dare begins and for the frist time in this show, I was interested what would happen and what did happen in Huck's past. In other words: I was actually paying attention. For the first time. That's worth a 7.

I really do hope this turns the corner. It may not be what I expected (basically some "exploration" stuff), but at least it might get interesting.

It is getting better, but with a few minor plot holes
The_Foiler17 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode dragged. You want a Season Premiere to be captivating, like the Season 2 Premiere of The Walking Dead. That episode started out with a mega herd approaching our heroes in the highway, and then Sophia goes missing. Now THAT was a captivating premiere. It got you hooked. I wanted to know what happened to Sophia! In World Beyond premiere, nothing got me hooked. So the first few episodes didn't have that much momentum.

This particular episode with Huck's past, this got me a little bit hooked now. I like how they explored her past, and that moral dilemma she was faced with.

The only plot hole I see is the act itself. If you're a Marine, and you're with your troops for a long time, that's your brotherhood/sisterhood. You don't just kill them off, just because they were given an order (and it's NOT an illegal order too). If they are given an order to kill innocent human beings (just like in the movie 28 Weeks Later), it's not an illegal order because you're preserving the human race. Now, is it unethical/immoral? You decide.

But what Huck did though, doesn't seem realistic. You wouldn't kill your own friends that you've worked with, bled with, shared combat experiences with--those are your brothers! I think it would be more realistic if she found a common ground--like if she shot them in the legs or something.

Think about it. You are with your co-workers, or with your family members or friends you've known for years...you've partied with them, shared stories with them, etc., are you seriously going to shoot them and kill them in cold blood?

Could make me start to like the series
vwvoyager24 November 2020
This was a good episode, even though it involved a character I really don't like, Huck, the backstory added depth to the character. The first episode where I wasn't rolling my eyes and can actually see some potential

Warning: Spoilers
I have tried to get into this show but it's just terrible. The dialog, the acting, even the episode music seems out of place in every episode. The show has the same formula every single episode. Pick a character and tell their background story while the other characters are doing something else. Every character had a depressing back story, but they try to make it better with upbeat music during the episode. This episode was utterly obvious like the show. They have been hinting that Silas can barely control his rage since the first episode. He's the Michael Myers of the apocalypse. Which of course means next episode there will be a PLOT TWIST.

They spent 2 episodes earlier in the season trying to get by the Springfield Tire Fire for no particular reason. This show is only going for 2 seasons yet they waste an inordinate amount of time with exposition. And everything is so convenient. They need to get across the Mississippi River. It's just their luck that they find the materials they need to build a boat just by the river. Mind you, none of them have ever built a boat but they manage to make it work just before the empties get them. They need to cut down their travel time so what a great coincidence that they run into two grifters both with hearts of gold with a truck which can coincidentally fit all of them and a map to gas depots. If this was the Walking Dead, all of these people would be dead walker bait. I'll make it to the end of the season but I am not invested in any of these characters. I wouldn't miss any of them if they died. I'd miss Daryl's dog if something happened to him more than any of the kids here.

Show shoots itself in the foot

Warning: Spoilers
So the show finally gets some interesting characters and then turns around and kills then off.

What the heck !!!

The show is more about child abuse and a really really weak goonies adventure than anything that TWD should stand for

A Glimmer of Hope
fogofogarty25 November 2020
After the previous episode ,I'd had enough. Really Bad writing , as many people have said it has the feel of a Nickelodeon show not a Walking Dead show , but I stuck with it for 1 more episode and I have to say this was a definite improvement. Im about to watch this weeks episode with a little more hope for something good.

There must be people from the show reviewing this now, that is the only way I can explain such high ratings. This show still stinks. Time filler for AMC and that is all.

A pivotal episode that sets the stage for the characters' future decisions and the dynamics that will inevitably influence their journey
fernandoschiavi8 May 2024
In flashbacks, Huck is revealed to be a former US Marine named Jennifer Mallick who defied orders to execute unarmed civilians as things got bad. Instead, Huck kills her comrades, including her best friend Drake, in order to save the civilians, resulting in Huck scarring her own face to match Drake's scar as a reminder. In the present, after a drunken game of truth or dare, Hope reveals to Huck that she had killed Elton's mother on the Night the Sky Fell and Huck advises Hope to keep it a secret from Elton in order to protect him. Tony reveals that he has managed to get his hands on a map to CRM fuel caches and he has figured out how to decode CRM maps. Using Tony's decoders, Iris is finally able to decipher the coded map that Kublek had given to her and Hope which reveals that the CRM's research facility is located in Ithaca, New York.

The Endlings raid the unmanned fuel depot, retrieving CRM code books and enough fuel to make their journey. However, Hope and Huck end up in a hostage situation with Walter, a desperate survivor who has been bitten. Huck promises to help Walter, but after talking him down, Huck kills him instead. Tony and Percy decide to join the Endlings' mission to rescue Leo and a romance begins blossoming between Iris and Percy, much to the jealousy of Silas. However, Iris finds Tony with his head bashed in later that night with Silas' bloody wrench lying next to him and no sign of Percy aside from a blood trail leading out of a window. Nearby, passed out covered in blood with a bottle of liquor next to him, is Silas.

Episode seven of "The Walking Dead: World Beyond," titled "Truth or Dare," explores deeper into the psychological states and backstories of its characters, particularly focusing on their fears and secrets. Set against the backdrop of an abandoned school that the group uses as a temporary shelter, this episode effectively utilizes the eerie setting to amplify the tension that unfolds among the characters.

As the group settles in, the episode introduces a game of truth or dare, which starts innocently but soon becomes a conduit for revelations and confrontations. Through this game, viewers are given significant insights into the characters' pasts, including Hope's struggles with guilt over her mother's death and the responsibilities she feels towards her sister Iris. This revelation not only adds depth to Hope's character but also impacts her relationship with Iris, who sees her sister in a new light.

One of the most powerful scenes involves Silas, whose backstory is partially revealed through flashbacks that are both disturbing and illuminating. These flashbacks, paired with the current tensions that arise during the game, paint a clearer picture of Silas's troubled past and how it shapes his behavior and self-perception. This episode does well to contrast his inner turmoil with the external threats, highlighting the theme that sometimes the monsters within are as dangerous as those outside.

In conclusion, "Truth or Dare" stands out as a psychologically intense episode that delves into the complexities of its characters' psyches. It effectively mixes suspense with deep character studies, making it one of the more memorable episodes of the season. While the pace of the episode might feel slow to some viewers, the depth of character exploration it provides adds significant value to the overall narrative arc. It's a pivotal episode that sets the stage for the characters' future decisions and the dynamics that will inevitably influence their journey. In essence, this episode not only entertains but also enriches the viewer's understanding of the characters, marking a critical point in the series.

So Glad We Have So Many Pumpers from the Show Reviewing this Title

They are trying to save the show with fake reviews. IMDB needs to find a way to make sure the reviews are legitimate.

One of the better episodes.
cruise0116 November 2020
4 out of 5 stars.

Finally an episode with better writing on the characters. Giving them little more emotions than being one dimensional and dumb. Hucks backstory was most interesting that haunts her til the present day. While the group hold up in a facility. Getting drunk. As they share emotional depth to the characters. The ending is very short lived with an unexpected end to a character. But interesting to see where it goes next.

Mixed Bag
ubilstein15 November 2020
I think this epsiode has some of the best parts and some of the worst parts of the season so far. Yes, we get more flashbacks. This time from Huck, but in my view her flashbacks actually were very interesting and her backstory fitted very well with the narrative of the epsiode. For the first time the flashbacks dont feel completely forced into the episode. After that epsiode I kinda think that Huck is interesting. Now to the bad. I never lightly use the word cringe. Cringe is an overused word today. That being said, I cringed everytime Iris and Percy were flirting and Silas looking pissed in every tiny situation. That whole plot felt like it was taken from a show aimed at pre-teens.. At least the ending is kinda interesting. Someone finally dies. The biggest problem with the show in general is, that the plot is paper thin. Everything that happened until now could have been compressed into 2-3 episode really.. Also what is up with people calling the cinematography on point? It isnt really bad and in this episode it is sometimes even good, but in general it is very generic. Dont you watch any other shows? Compare this to the new epsiodes of Fear S6. There is a night and day difference in cinematographic effort.

Warning: Spoilers
I know everyone hates this show, but in all honesty, I find something refreshing about it. There's a levity to it and I like how all the characters get to interact with each other and also how each character is unique and well-defined. I've never watched the original Walking Dead show and so I really wish this show was just called World Beyond sans the prefix. I have watched Fear the Walking Dead from the beginning and it used to be it's own thing separate from TWD, but unfortunately in Season 4 the writers opted to soft merge Fear with the TWD universe and bring over some of that show's characters including Morgan and make him the star and I'm still not crazy about him and probably never will be. Seasons 4 and 5 of Fear are some of the worst TV on a major show that I've ever seen in my life and Morgan was at the front and center of that horrid experience.

Sadly, Fear has lost several of it's most important and some of my favorite characters and now features several characters that I just plain don't care about, despite the fact that it's back to being good again. While I admire the improved writing, acting and stories, a huge part of me still wishes it was back to the old Fear instead of this new hybrid Fear-TWD series. So World Beyond gives me an alternative show that can distract me from Fear and give me a new set of characters on a series that hopefully sticks with them and doesn't try to turn into another TWD knockoff.

I'll admit that while World Beyond has been up and down since the Pilot, still one of the better episodes of the season, this episode TRUTH OR DARE is now easily the season's top episode. And the primary reason is it because it focuses on the one character I've thought has been the best since the Pilot and that is Huck (excellently played by Annet Mahendru). Huck's quirks and hardcore attitude have always appealed to me as she's the only main character who lacks melodrama. But she still comes with her own scars, both literal and figurative, and this episode delves into her backstory. Huck was a marine when the "sky fell" and her unit was tasked to clear a facility that has been overrun by the "empties", but there are also a lot of innocent humans trapped that need help.

Meanwhile in the present timeline, the main group works alongside welcome character additions Percy and Tony, the grifter duo that they met in the previous episode, on refueling their truck and also brainstorming on how to identify the exact location that the CRM is holding Hope and Iris' father. The plot of the episode involves them infiltrating their first fueling facility on their trip. The timeline shifting between Huck's past and the group's present is exceptionally well done. Both Fear and World Beyond have done episodes like this ad nauseum, but there was something unique about how this one was executed. Mahendru's non-verbal acting was on point as she convincingly relayed all of Huck's emotions throughout the episode in both past and present scenes. This show will never win any awards, but regardless, it's a very entertaining and unique take on the apocalypse. But, please writers, can World Beyond just stay it's own thing?
