Discarded queen Catherine must return her state jewels, which Henry hands to Anne, who also gets a £100,000 annual income with the peerage title marquess of Pembroke. The imperial ambassador recruits a secret killer in the royal entourage on a state visit to France, where kings Francis agrees to a 'non-aggressive' pact and Anne promises Henry a son. Cromwell sends Cranmer on study visit to Lutheran Germany, where the protégé even marries, and agrees with George Boleyn the church must not just be reformed but politically eliminated.—KGF Vissers
- Having recovered from the attempt to poison him, Bishop Fisher continues to argue in Parliament that the Church is not subject to secular oversight. The King however is looking to expand his control over the Church, an attempt that will lead to a confrontation with his Chancellor, Sir Thomas More. The King introduces a bill to stop the transfer of Church funds to Rome and that they come fully under his control. Sir Thomas More resigns. Brandon, the Duke of Suffolk, warns his friend the King that Anne Boleyn has something of a reputation. She denies it, of course and Brandon is ordered to leave the Court. The King arranges a trip for he and Anne to visit the King of France so that he can formally present her to him. On her return to her apartments however, she finds a message from the unknown assassin who has been hired to eliminate her.—garykmcd
