Wellington and Scarlet find the forgers were part of a huge, well-planned plot to cash enormous gold quantities from various London banks, which already succeeded. Scarlet keeps dodging police protection, abusing closet-gay landlord Rupert Parker whom she advises a double marriage of convenience. She even receives a nightly visit from Jamaican scum Moses, and maintains they must believe him, so she ends up locked in the police station, where she helps going through a pile of police c-suspect files. Superintendent Stirling is their prime suspect, but his corpse is found, the other conspirators got away. William keeps forgiving her impertinence and failure to keep promises, even a simple dinner date when she pledges undying gratitude, both remaining devoted to solve her father Henry's covered-up murder. Sadly, Wellington finds a viper in his team.
