A lot of TV companies are judged by how quickly they can introduce new shows. Warner Bros. Discovery thinks it may find some gains by developing new ways to introduce audiences to series and content that already exists.
The strategy has been playing out in open view on some of the company’s biggest cable networks. Audiences watching NBA basketball games have been pushed to sample series such as Food Network’s “Tournament of Champions,” HGTV’s “Rock The Block” and Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.” And some portion decided to follow the programs back to their original homes for more. According to company research, 12% of TNT sports viewers who sampled “Tournament” went on to watch it on Food Network. Likewise, 10% of basketball fans that tried “Rock The Block” followed it to HGTV while 7% of viewers who tested “Deadliest Catch” watched more of it on Discovery.

There’s a lot of mystery in “Forensic Files,” but not too much behind the decision by the cable network that airs the series to keep it going longer.
CNN has renewed its license with the long-running series’ original producer, Medstar, to produce new episodes of “Forensic Files II” through 2024, according to Nancy Duffy, senior vice president of program development for CNN, and executive producer of the series. “It’s a real binge-worthy kind of vehicle,” she says, in an interview — and fares well in both linear showings and on the streaming platforms of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.
Hln will run eight new half-hour episodes as part of its renewal pact. In the first new one, a 24-year-old old criminology student who left a SoHo bar intoxicated is found raped, murdered handcuffed, gagged, and wrapped in a blanket alongside a road in East New York, Brooklyn. Exclusive: CNN is unveiling a slate of new limited series podcasts for this fall, including one focusing on California’s 2003 recall and another hosted by Clarissa Ward, who recently was reporting on the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.
Other podcasts include ones hosted by Harry Enten, longtime podcaster Aminatou Sow, and a companion series from Hln.
With California Gov. Gavin Newsom facing a recall on Sept. 14, the Total Recall: California’s Political Circus podcast, hosted by Dana Bash, will look back at what happened in 2003, when voters ousted Gov. Gray Davis in favor of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although this year’s recall has its share of celebrity candidates and fame seekers, more than 100 candidates sought the governorship in the 2003 race. Bash, CNN’s chief political correspondent, “will unpack the scandal, partisanship, and celebrity of the Golden State’s 2003 recall election – and explore what it might have forecasted about politics today,” according to CNN.

Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.
