There is no shortage nowadays of movies with interesting ideas, but it’s generally in the execution that they falter. Trunk: Locked In is a German film directed by Marc Schieber that not only has an intriguing premise but a fantastic execution as well. The idea is not entirely new. Films like Buried and Guilty have had a go at it in their own ways, but Trunk: Locked In gets the best of both worlds. It has the claustrophobia from Buried coupled with the thrilling investigation by a police officer from their control room, as seen in “Guilty.” The economy of characters allowed Scheiber to experiment with shot composition and weird cinematography that seem inspired by Gaspar Noe. Everything works in this claustrophobic thriller, and the smartest thing about it is the exposition, which does not give the audience too much time to apply their analytical minds to assess the plot.

Exclusive: Ruchi Narain was obsessed with ABC’s early 2010s drama Revenge — so much so that she spent years trying to land the rights to remake the Mike Kelley show in India.
“I was addicted to the show,” she recalled during an exclusive interview. “From when I saw episode one a decade ago, I thought that this is it — something that should be taken to the Indian audience.”
Now that’s finally come to pass, with Disney+ Hotstar in December ordering a remake, Karmma Calling, from R.A.T. Studios. Narain has the led the adaptation process, and the screenwriter and director has told Deadline the story of how she approached the trials and tribulations of porting the Hamptons to Mumbai high society.
But first, it’s worth exploring exactly how the series came about. Narain, known for hit Indian films such as Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Netflix’s 2020 feature Guilty,...

When celebrities and British royalty meet. It’s happened time and time again over the years, and, as such, there are many stories about Hollywood stars meeting royals. One of the latest comes from Barbra Streisand. The award-winning singer recounted meeting a young King Charles III in her 2023 memoir. Although she inadvertently created the “equivalent of an international incident,” it marked the start of a lifelong friendship.
Barbra Streisand and the king met at a California recording studio in 1974
In her memoir, My Name Is Barbra, which debuted on Nov. 7, 2023, Streisand shared the story of how she and King Charles met. It was 1974, and the young prince’s naval career brought him to San Diego, California, where Streisand was working, recording the Funny Lady soundtrack.
“He asked to meet me,” Streisand wrote. “So, he came to the recording studio.” But, as she shared, the atmosphere wasn’t ideal for getting to know each other.

You might know Louise Post as the co-frontwoman of ’90s alt-rock icons Veruca Salt, but she’s now going solo with Sleepwalker, her debut album under her own name.
After Veruca Salt released their 2015 comeback album Ghost Notes, Post went back to writing music as usual. But the songs that began flowing out of her — which she says “almost appeared to be writing themselves” — felt much more personal to her than what she’d done previously with a band.
“I have always identified as a sleepwalker,” Post said of the album’s title in a statement. “I slept-walked around my house routinely when I was a child, and even down the street. I believe in hindsight it was me trying to process what was going on in my home with my parents’ troubled marriage. As far as I know, I stopped sleepwalking after the divorce when I was eight, but...

I was raised on Barbra Streisand. My mother adored her. She owned The Way We Were and Yentl on VHS. She vacuumed to the “Guilty” album. Every birthday, she joyously opened Bab’s anual release like a Dickens’ orphan getting her yearly pair of shoes. And I was, step by step, initiated into the catechism of Our Lady of Funny Girl.
So when I met her...Barbra, not my mother...it was brief but epic. And ridiculous. And wonderful. And bittersweet. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present, “Meeting Streisand: A Miniature Comic Tragedy in 3 Acts.”

Decades before MeToo became an official platform, Jodie Foster's Oscar-winning act in the 1988 film "The Accused" had already tried initiating a conversation along the line that a woman cannot be slut-shamed or victim-blamed for a sexual assault or rape on her, no matter what. In India, a few years back, we had the brilliant "Pink", which underlined the maxim that, when a woman says so, no means no.
"Guilty", touted as the brainchild of an all-women creative, tries discussing the conversation through a story of rape allegation set against the backdrop of MeToo, which makes it relevant. Any film that attempts to talk to the audience on this subject should be deemed important, and that is despite its cinematic merit or the lack of it.
Yet, as "Guilty" highlights its message, you somehow are left with the impression that, instead of charting a new course, the makers are happy...

Starring Kiara Advani, Akansha Ranjan, Gurfateh Singh Pirzada,Taher Shabbir
Directed by Ruchi Narain
31 years ago in Jonathan Kaplan’s The Accused, Jodie Foster played a girl who is gang-raped in a bar because…well…she asked for it.
Now it’s debutant Akansha Ranjan, impressively in-character, playing a campus libertine from Jharkhand who comes on too strongly with our rape-accused hero the popular Vijay Pratap Singh (Gurfateh Singh Pirzada) during a rock concert that rocks the gender boat violently. Did the aggressively in-your-face Tanu “ask for it”?
Director Ruchi Narain, returning to feature –film direction after 2005’s interesting but fractured Kal, Yesterday & Tomorrow, offers no easy solutions, as there are none. That a rape has indeed been committed is unclear until the devastating finale where, during a love concert, we finally get to know the truth because…well…there was an eyewitness. Luckily it was male. Because,...

Singer-songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews will release her new album Old Flowers on June 5th via Fat Possum Records. In advance of the LP, the Phoenix native premiered the brooding track “If I Told,” a vulnerable five-minute ballad that recalls a pivotal night on Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
“Tell me your dreams and I’ll tell you mine/what would you say, if I told you/you’re my last thought at the end of each night?” Andrews sings, her voice sounding like a distant transmission from across the ocean.

Netflix is adding a robust line-up of popular programs to its slate in March.
In addition to rom-coms like Matthew Mcconaughey’s “Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past,” “He’s Just Not That Into You” and “Always a Bridesmaid,” the streamer is also adding a few classics like “Goodfellas” and “The Shawshank Redemption” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. Tina Tchen, president and CEO of the Time’s Up Foundation, on Monday hailed the criminal conviction of disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein, who was found guilty by a New York jury of third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act.
“This trial — and the jury’s decision today — marks a new era of justice, not just for the Silence Breakers, who spoke out at great personal risk, but for all survivors of harassment, abuse, and assault at work,” she said.
She went on to credit individual women, including several who testified in the case for speaking out: “We owe a debt of gratitude to Mimi Haleyi, Jessica Mann, Annabella Sciorra, Dawn Dunning, Tarale Wulff, and Lauren Young and all the Silence Breakers for their bravery and resolve as they faced this man in court. We continue to believe them — all of them — and continue to be in solidarity with them.
