After joining Guillermo del Toro on the project over 10 years ago, producers Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico finally got to see the fruits of their labor when Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio premiered last year. Del Toro’s Netflix adaptation of the Carlo Collodi story takes place in 1930s Italy, during the Fascist reign of Benito Mussolini. In this story, woodcarver Geppetto (David Bradley) loses his son Carlo in an aerial bombing and carves Pinocchio (Gregory Mann) from the tree at his son’s grave. Bulkley and Campodonico’s animation studio, ShadowMachine, was responsible for the stop-motion animation of the film, and the pair were incredibly excited to go on this long journey with del Toro.
Deadline: What excited you about Guillermo del Toro’s version of the Pinocchio story?
Corey Campodonico: What is so cool about a property that’s been touched throughout the years and is such an iconic property,...

James Gunn and Peter Safran have laid out their future plans for DC Studios, and the results are pretty exciting. Having the ship steered by someone with a clear vision and an obvious love of the source material is exactly what DC movies need. Speaking of comics, Gunn recently tweeted the inspirations behind DC's new direction. He was careful to say that while these books are significant to upcoming projects, DC Studios won't be adapting them all. It's great news because the comics serving as "touchstones" are all excellent!
DC Studios may not be directly adapting all the books Gunn mentioned, but we know one recent comic that is definitely getting a movie: "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." The eight-issue miniseries from Tom King and Bilquis Evely first hit stands in 2021, wrapping up the following year.
It might seem surprising to adapt such a recent tale, but King and Evely have...

Saudi Arabian media and entertainment giant Mbc Group has officially launched its new headquarters in the capital of Riyadh.
The new HQ was unveiled Monday in a glitzy purple carpet event attended by royal family members, ministers, ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic missions in Riyadh and dignitaries.
“Three decades on after the beginning of Mbc Group’s journey, we are finally here in Riyadh – we are finally here in our homeland,” said Mbc Group Chairman Waleed bin Ibrahim Al Ibrahim.
“It was always in our ambitions to be based here, right from the very first day of our launch in London in 1991,” he added. “But back then, we truly thought that this dream would remain what it was — merely an ambitious yet unattainable dream. Little did we know that one day it would become a reality.”

Some 25 productions have shot in the region in Saudi Arabia over the past 18 months.
Neom, a futuristic megacity being built in northwestern Saudi Arabia, has announced its anticipated incentive for productions in the region that consists of a cash rebate of at least 40.
The rebate will apply to feature films, TV drama, reality series and documentaries as well as commercials, with producers able to secure a higher percentage based on their “industry development contributions”.
These contributions include elements such as hiring of local production crew and investment in infrastructure, such as set building that can remain behind for use on future projects.

Will some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes meet their end in either Avengers: Infinity War or its still untitled sequel? That’s definitely the widespread expectation going into these movies. The cast and crew themselves have often teased that death is on the way, as well. But is this all just a marketing ploy? After all, death is infamously flexible in the comic book world and that’s definitely true of this franchise.
In an attempt to find out the truth, CinemaBlend asked directors Joe and Anthony Russo point blank whether any of the Avengers would die in Infinity War or Avengers 4. Their report notes that the duo “danced around [the topic] a bit” before Anthony Russo formed this measured, but still very intriguing, reply:

Thanks to the Mind Stone and its raw, untold power, Paul Bettany’s J.A.R.V.I.S. transformed into the Vision during the course of Avengers: Age of Ultron and became something different. Something more…
Since that mystical evolution, J.A.R.V.I.S. 2.0 Vision has grown into one of the McU’s most important characters, and his close relationship with Wanda Maximoff (Aka Scarlet Witch) will undoubtedly bring a touch of romance and heart to the otherwise apocalyptic Avengers: Infinity War.
However that may be, it seems Bettany’s Avenger almost looked completely different for his McU debut back in 2015. Via Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios mainstay Ryan Meinerding has debuted a series of concept art that shows alternate designs for Vision, Gamora, Nebula, Captain America and Mantis, the curious ally who joined the Guardians of the Galaxy in time for their second cosmic adventure.

From the first trailer for the movie, it’s been clear that Avengers: Infinity War will feature a significant role for Black Panther‘s homeland of Wakanda, as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will convene in the African country in order to take on Thanos’ forces.
It was at first theorized that the Mad Titan was attacking the nation because it was home to the Soul Stone, which has still yet to be located, but it’s recently been confirmed that staging the battle in Wakanda is all the Avengers’ decision. It’s where they take Vision after he’s attacked by the Black Order in an attempt to pry the Mind Stone from his cranium.
But why does King T’Challa let the Avengers use his turf as the site of the conflict? Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, was posed this question during a set visit and revealed that it...

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are ready for their respective close-ups in this newly-unveiled gallery of concept art for Age of Ultron.
Coming to us by way of Cbm, this is perhaps the definitive showcase of Joss Whedon’s superpowered sequel, which initially placed the Avengers on a collision course with James Spader’s malevolent A.I., Ultron, in 2015, back when the McU was still in the throes of Phase 2.
Fast forward to 2018, and Marvel Studios is now bracing for three of the biggest films in superhero history: Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Peyton Reed’s caper sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is expected to bring some welcome comic relief in July.
For now, though, Marvel fans have been treated to a visual breakdown of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which includes concept art for many of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – namely Black Widow, Vision, Cap and more! – along with...

Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Antonioni and Steven Spielberg; what do they have in common? Well, quite obviously they are all extremely well known directors. The other thing they have in common is that they are all male. How often when reading a newspaper, a magazine or watching a tv show do you get to hear about female directors?
The answer is: rarely. Men dominate film to the extent that women account for only 6% of the industry’s directors, and only 12% of its screenwriters.
The seventh Birds Eye View Film Festival intends to make a sizeable contribution in adjusting the balance. The festival opened this Monday, 7th March - the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day - and runs for two weeks. Its aim is simple: to increase the profile of women directors, actors and screenwriters by celebrating the abundance of work that comes from the female sector of the industry.

"Political turmoil. Terrorism. Economic shifts. Suspicion between citizens and state — and, following in the footsteps of Fassbinder, the emergence of a new independent film culture. The themes of Margarethe von Trotta's work couldn't be more compelling for a contemporary viewer, nor indeed their handy suggestions for the Big Society — her third feature The Second Awakening of Christa Klages (1978) is based on the true story of a young mother who robbed a bank in order to raise funds to keep open a child-care center threatened with closure by the government. The Birds Eye View festival's Filmmaker Focus on von Trotta is well-timed."

Vision: From The Life Of Hildegard Von Bingen is the biography of Hildegard von Bingen, the multi-talented 12th century German nun. Von Bingen was an author and playwright, composer of Gregorian chants, a visionary bibliophile, physician, botanist, and a practitioner of holistic medicine with advanced knowledge of herbal healing. Sounds exciting, huh? It’s not but German director Margarethe von Trotta’s film is an impressive accomplishment on many levels. Historically it must have been a real challenge to illustrate so vividly this life lived almost 900 years ago with such attention to facts and details and visually it’s a real stunner. Von Trotta, an actress turned director, gets great work from her mostly female cast but the film goes on too long and ultimately left this reviewer cold

German writer-director Margarethe von Trotta started directing movies in the 1970s at a time when there were few women behind the cameras. Not only is she still making films, but she's now recognized as one of the leaders of the German New Wave along with filmmakers like Rainer Werner Fasbinder (Lola, Berlin Alexanderplatz) and Volker Schlöndorf (The Tin Drum), who was once her co-director and husband. The label of "feminist" filmmaker seems far too limiting to describe her career and the content of her films. Her movies have examined terrorism (The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, Marianne and Juliane), the effect of the Cold War on Germany (The Promise), the complexity of human relationships (Sisters, or the Balance of Happiness) and the life and work of German revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg. Her latest movie Vision: From the Life of Hildegard von Bingen has...

While it was comparatively unheralded prior to release, N-Secure managed to easily top all limited releases in its debut weekend. Waiting for "Superman" had another solid showing, and John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy expanded its way up the chart. Tea Party documentary I Want Your Money was unable to grab much cash from audiences, while Clint Eastwood's Hereafter had a strong limited . N-Secure opened to $1.17 million at 486 locations, which was good for 14th place on the overall weekend chart. The drama had a poor $2,400 per-theater average. This was a recent pick-up for Freestyle Releasing, and it yielded the distributor's biggest opening since The Collector from last July. Waiting for "Superman" nearly doubled its theater count to 182 and was up 16 percent to $742,725. This was the documentary's largest weekend yet, though its per-theater average of $4,081 was a step down from past sessions. Through its fourth weekend, "Superman" has earned $2.52 million.
