"There's a dark side to this, and your father crossed over from time to time." Saban has released a second official trailer for the storm chasers thriller movie Supercell, set to open in theaters and on VOD later this month. The first trailer arrived a few weeks ago, with this next one being labeled as a "Director's Trailer" - meaning the director must've edited himself to better represent the film. This thriller is inspired by real life stories of storm chasers as well as the tour agencies that end up caught up in dangerously real trouble all for a profit. A teenage boy runs away to follow his father's footsteps - the legendary storm chaser Bill Brody, played by Richard Gunn - when a powerful storm arrives. He wants to try to carry on his father's spirit by going out on research chases, too. Stormcell stars Daniel Diemer as William Brody,...

"He chased for knowledge, not thrill." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for a storm thriller titled Supercell, made by a first-time filmmaker named Herbert James Winterstern. The poster for this has some ridiculously cheesy tornado art, but the movie seems to be a more grounded, realistic look at the intense life of storm chasers. Seemingly inspired by real life stories of storm chasers as well as the tour agencies that end up caught up in dangerously real trouble. A teenage boy runs away to follow his father's footsteps - the legendary storm chaser Bill Brody, played by Richard Gunn - when a powerful storm arrives. He wants to try to carry on his father's spirit with some tornado contraption. Stormcell stars Daniel Diemer as William Brody, with Skeet Ulrich, Anne Heche, Jordan Kristine Seamón, Anjul Nigam, and Alec Baldwin. This doesn't look as cheesy as so many other weather movies recently,...

Meir Zarchi’s “I Spit on Your Grave” is kind of a funny film to choose to remake, having caused heated debate ever since its release and frequent censoring back in 1978. Whilst on the one hand, the film’s reputation for controversy might well be just as headline-grabbing today, it’s one of the few pieces of extreme exploitation cinema that even many diehard genre fans find it uncomfortable admitting they actually like. This is understandable, given that much of the running revolves around brutal rape scenes, with the film walking a fine line between supposed feminist revenge as per its original title “Day of the Woman”, and gratuitous misogyny dressed up as grindhouse entertainment. Director Steven R. Monroe (“Complacent”, “Storm Cell”) is the man bravely attempting to update and revive the film, running the risk not only of being accused of glamorising violence against women, but of needlessly churning out yet another pointless remake.

[Editor's Note: This was published during the 2010 edition of the Fantastia Int. Film Festival. We are republishing the article to coincide with the theatrical release.] I Spit on Your Grave has two strikes against it right out of the block: one, die hard horror fans are very vocal about their distaste for remakes of their favorite films of yesteryear; and two, the fact that it's a remake of one of the - if not the - most brutal rape revenge films ever made means that even if it's good (it is), the subject matter is way up there on the controversy barometer. So the big question is: did I Spit on Your Grave need to be remade for a 21st century audience? Director Steven Monroe (Wyvern, Storm Cell), a huge fan of the 1978 original (also known as Day of the Woman), seems to have thought not, but made the film out of a sense of necessity: at the pre-screening introduction of the film's world premiere at Fantasia he said that when he saw the rights...

Two new clips from director Steven R. Munroe's (Storm Cell) remake of the controversial 1978 horror movie I Spit on Your Grave have been released online. Written by Stuart Morse, the remake stars Sarah Butler in her big screen debut as Jennifer Hills, a writer seeking the quiet of an isolated cabin in the woods to complete her new novel. After Jennifer has a run-in with some local rednecks, the lowlifes trail her back to her cabin, where they rape and brutalize her, leaving her for dead. But, Jennifer doesn't die. Instead, she returns with a vengeance that would make The Punisher proud, torturing and killing those responsible for her assault in highly imaginative ways.
