Plucky's inner thoughts
TheLittleSongbird20 July 2020
There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that "Inside Plucky Duck" would be good at the least. Even as a child, the premise struck me as one of the show's best and most inventive. Few, if any, of 'Tiny Toon Adventures' previous and succeeding episodes delved into a single character's inner thoughts in this way. Superhero origin-like stories are always fun, and wild takes too when done well. And with Plucky centre stage, how could it go wrong?

Go wrong "Inside Plucky Duck" does not. Far from it. In fact it is one of my favourite 'Tiny Toon Adventures' episodes. It sounded great on paper and the execution is even greater, a long way from being something with a promising premise gone to waste like is the case too much these days. While loving it as a child, "Inside Plucky Duck" is even better now in my opinion as a young adult due to getting more out of the premise and understanding the content more. There are some fine Plucky-centric episodes and this is one of the best.

Plucky himself is a sheer delight, zany, great comic timing and easy to relate to. It was both fascinating and entertaining to see his inner thoughts and dreams, seeing how his mind worked. His superhero persona that he adopts in "Bat's All Folks!" will be so nostalgic and relatable to anybody who was a fan of superheroes when younger and wanted to be one, and really plays to his strengths. Buster and Babs also fit their roles perfectly, both have such compelling personalities and like Plucky their comic timing is on point.

Of all the other 'Tiny Toon Adventures' characters they are the only ones that could fill the "take the viewer on a fantastic voyage" type of roles in this way. Nice to see more of Calamity. Although "Inside Plucky Duck" is made up of two segments ("Bat's All Folks!" and "Wild Takes Class"), it doesn't feel like two segments and instead like an individual story. Although a fan of 'Tiny Toon Adventures', and have been for many years, "Inside Plucky Duck" is one of not many segment-structured episodes of the show where the segments are consistent in quality to each other (instead of the oft-seen "some better than others" quality seen in many of the segment-structured episodes).

"Bat's All Folks!" and "Wild Takes Class" are both equally terrific. The former is fun, sometimes darkly suspenseful and quite creative for a type of story done so many times in animation. The latter is as witty and deliciously wacky as one would expect from 'Tiny Toon Adventures', boasting some imaginative and wonderfully exaggerated expressions and reactions and it certainly doesn't disappoint when it comes to delivering on the wildness. All without getting over-stretched or repetitive.

Animation is vibrant and fluid, shining in particularly "Wild Takes Class". The music is hip and infectiously character and the theme song will never stop being a classic, has yet to get old. The dialogue constantly brought such a smile to my face and made me laugh frequently, delivered by immensely talented voice actors (some of the most prolific and at the time some of the best too) in their element.

To conclude, wonderful and one of my favourites. 10/10
