Watch for Sebastian and the cute mer babies!
I have been vocal before about how much I love this series. It isn't as good as the film, which is a classic, but it is a childhood favourite of mine, and anyone who knows me will know how much I like my childhood films and TV shows. Double Bubble, while not as good as A Whale of a Tale, The Evil Manta and Wish Upon a Starfish, is a wonderful episode. It is very funny and extremely cute! The animation is once again very beautiful, with lovely backgrounds and Ariel especially is very well animated here. The music is also good, I love the incidental music and the lullaby Mobster Lobster sings is great.
Also great is the dialogue, some of it is very sweet and others made me chuckle a lot. I especially loved Sebastian's "why during my baby boom, my family nearly exploded" and also "Don't blame yourself Ariel", "Yeah, you're right. YOU'RE the one who lost them!" My personal favourite is Mobster Lobster and Da Shrimp's disagreement over what was worse, "taking care of those mud guppies or dealing with that shark". During that exchange, Mobster Lobster's "I disagree! The kids was much worse than...THE SHARK!" made me laugh most.
The characters are engaging. You don't see much of King Triton, but I have always liked him as a sort of father figure, and Ariel is still the headstrong, caring and sympathetic little mermaid I love from the film. Mobster Lobster and Da Shrimp are great villains and steal the best lines. But what stood out in Double Bubble was Sebastian, who was absolutely hilarious, and those positively adorable twin mer babies. Overall, not the best of the series but a must watch regardless. 10/10 Bethany Cox
