Tom Holland ("Child's Play," the original "Fright Night") has signed on to write and direct an adaptation of Stephen King's short story "The Ten O’Clock People" says Deadline.
The story, think John Carpenter's "They Live" but with demons rather than aliens, follows a Boston man who is trying to kick his smoking habit. As a result of this, a unique chemical imbalance allows him to see a frightening aspect of reality he hadn't previously seen - that many people living in positions of power are actually inhuman monsters disguised as people.
The story was first published in the 1993 anthology "Nightmares And Dreamscapes" which also contained the stories "The Night Flier" and "Dolan's Cadillac" which were both adapted to film. Five stories from the collection made up a TNT anthology series of the same name in 2006.
Holland and King previously collaborated on the feature adaptation of the novel...

Stephen King is an interesting writer in the sense that some of his work goes on to inspire renown films, ('The Shining,' 'Pet Sematary') whereas some of it ends up in cheaply put together straight-to video fare. ('Dolan's Cadillac') How much recognition his work has is usually a good indicator of which size screen it will be appearing on. Variety reports that the film adaptation of King's novel, 'Rose Madder' is occurring as part of a three picture deal between Palomar Pictures and Grosvenor Park. Sorry, the other two films: 'Joseph and the Girl' and 'Elliot' have nothing to do with King. For more on those, head over to Variety. As for King's 'Rose Madder,' here's the synopsis via his official website: "Rosie Daniels flees from her husband, Norman after fourteen years in an abusive marriage. During one bout of violence, Norman caused...

The pic toplines Matthew Lillard and Nora Zehetner and was helmed and co-written by Drake Doremus.
"We have expanded our range and depth of films and television series so extensively over the past few months that we now have choices for virtually every type of broadcast and DVD buyer in the world," said Ted Chalmers, Moving Pictures president of worldwide sales.
In addition to "Spooner," Mpf&TV recently made five film deals with Digi Dreams, including rights to the spoof title "Alice in Murderland."
Other deals include P.T. Parkit of Indonesia, for "Dolan's Cadillac," based on a Stephen King short story and starring Christian Slater; and Falcon Films in the MidEast, which took the animated adventure "Lucky Dragon.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans: "When once blasting the Cinéma Vérité documentary film movement, a movement driven by the desire for some form of indexical truth between film and the real world nurtured via a "fly on the wall" aesthetic, director Werner Herzog noted that "there are deeper strata of truth in cinema, and there is such a thing as poetic, ecstatic truth. It is mysterious and elusive, and can be reached through fabrication and imagination and stylization." Herzog, an eclectic director of both documentaries and fiction films, has often followed this approach in the past in both modes of filmmaking through one continuous approach. In the majority of his films, Herzog chooses to accentuate what are often tales of madness with an aesthetic focus that de-emphasize the drama in favor of the landscape and the role of nature in such processes, shifting film away from objective...

It's a pretty slow DVD release day with very little in the way of new movies out this week, but clearly the biggest title on store shelves is the long-awaited Blu-ray release of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Will people buy this version or wait for the eventual Extended Editions? Other choice picks include Werner Herzog's must-see crime flick Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans starring Nicolas Cage, the first season of the Starz comedy series Party Down, and The Yes Men Fix the World documentary. Do you see anything else worth renting or buying this week? Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) The Collector [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) Dolan's Cadillac [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) Harlem Aria [7] Jade Warrior [8] National Lampoon's Ratko, The Dictator's Son [9] The Weathered Underground [10] The Yes Men Fix the World [11] Dirt! Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans I saw this film last year but never went on to review it. Some films you just don't really have anything necessary to say, and for me this was one of those films. I could have written about how there are a ton of lizards and one scene in particular that is so out of left field it actually works inside the madness it created, but to me it was just one more element to Herzog's temporary insanity that was Bad Lieutenant. I have no interest in seeing this film again and this paragraph is really all I have left to say about it, although I know it has its supporters that will likely say otherwise. To each their own, this one just didn't really do much for me. The Lord of the Rings...

It's a bloody week of DVD offerings with Blood Ties: The Complete Series, Blood Red Moon, and Blood Forest all hitting store shelves on Tuesday, April 6th. Throw in The Damned, the film adaptation of Stephen King's Dolan's Cadillac, along with some Malpractice and Taxidermia, and we've got one hell of an eclectic mix to choose from.
The pick of the week is little tricky. We would say The Collector since fans have been waiting so long for it to hit DVD and Blu-ray, but we're not sure the payoff is really worth it. Maybe Tony? We've heard good things regarding this UK import about a London serial killer, but we don't have our official review up yet. And then there's Robert Picardo's newest, Sensored, about a children's book illustrator who inhabits a twilight world of shifting reality and illusion. For now we'll leave it open and see what you guys think.

Distributor Film Bridge International recently put up the first teaser art for Dolan’s Cadillac on their official site, as the eagle-eyed monstrosities at Quiet Earth noticed today. It’s subtle, that’s for sure, and I can’t say it really grabs the eye too well. The lack of an actual Cadillac is a bit confusing, as well.
Based on the short story by Stephen King, Dolan’s Cadillac stars Christian Slater as James Dolan, a Las Vegas mob boss who kills the wife of peaceful school teacher (Wes Bentley). After he realizes the legal system won’t help him bring Dolan to justice, he takes matters into his own hands via a very elaborate trap in the desert.

Supported by a trio of great actors - Wes Bentley, Christian Slater, and Emmanuelle Vaugier - Canadian director Jeff Beesley's adaptation of Stephen King'Dolan's Cadillac ranks high on our list of films to watch for in 2009. In many ways a modern take on Poe's classic short story about revenge, "The Cask of Amontillado," Dolan's Cadillac is is a hardcore revenge tale about a school teacher who's determined to track down a viscous Las Vegas mobster who is responsible for his wife's death.
You see before you the first teaser poster that has dropped for the film and I gotta say I like the gritty ambiguity of it. Nothing flashy going on here. It doesn't rely on using any of the actors' faces to sell its it story but the best thing is that it's not so literal as to have a giant Cadillac on it. That poster will no doubt surface later.

Whew! Finally the elections are over, and no matter which side of the political fence you sit on, you can't deny that history has been made. The week of November 1-7, 2008, was full of highs and lows for me; while I was rejoicing at Obama's resounding success, I couldn't help but feel disheartened by the passage of Prop 8 in California and similar measures in other states. We've come so far; yet, there's still a lot of work to be done to ensure equal rights for all. But I know that's not what we're here to talk about. So let's rehash horror's wins and losses over the past seven days.
One upcoming flick that looks like a frontrunner is 100 Feet. Be sure to check out the new clip that showed up online. I don't know about you, but I get a real The Entity vibe off this thing. I can't wait to see if I'm right.

Here’s your fist look at Christian Slater in Dolan's Cadillac, the upcoming thriller which is based on the Stephen King novel. The flick is due in theaters next year and centers on a young man who attempts to avenge his wife's death after she is murdered by a Las Vegas mobster (Slater). The flick also stars Wes Bentley (P2, Ghost Rider) and Emmanuelle Vaugier (Saw II, 40 Days and 40 Nights).

It seems odd; we’ve been talking about the film version of Dolan’s Cadillac, the adaptation of the Stephen King short story, for so long that now that it’s actually filming it almost doesn’t seem real. Maybe it’s because a relatively unknown helmer is directing it? Or maybe because Sly Stalone isn’t a part of it anymore?
