This episode was fairly enjoyable - I liked the usage of a classic Superman villain, complete with a perfect likeness of his original design. Best of all was seeing Clark's love of baseball, that was really endearing. Seeing him extolling it as being a perfect symbol of America's values was so utterly cheesy and perfectly fitting to his character that it was adorable. It was also fun to see Clark using his journalistic smarts. Overall, there was a lot about this episode that was charming and fun.
However, this episode suffered from a serious problem - the Prankster seemed to be a threat to Superman when he simply shouldn't have been. At one point, encasing Superman in "steel-reinforced peanut butter" actually stops him for a minute or two. Seriously? Isn't "able to bust up steel" part of Superman's job description? Even worse, earlier in the episode, simply *launching a ball* at him knocks him through a wall and stops him for a few seconds! It also takes a lot of the punch out of the "crux" of the episode, in which Superman is "forced" to play baseball by the Prankster, when in reality I don't see why he has to, especially not for so long. Surely he could've done what he eventually did to save the day earlier? On the upside, seeing the goofy baseball game starring Superman playing with a team of robots against normal players in the jungle was mildly amusing, I guess.
Overall, this is still a cute episode that will have enough to please the fans of the Superman characters to be worthwhile, but it could've been a lot better if they had found a way to make it more plausible that Superman would actually have a challenge. I actually think having Superman be way more powerful than his opponents can work in some circumstances, such as when the focus is on another part of the story other than simply beating up the foes (such as solving the mystery as to what's going on, like in many Adventures of Superman and Lois & Clark episodes) or when it's just really satisfying to see Superman beat the enemy (such as in Golden Age stories in which the foes are based on real-life bad guys). But here, it doesn't work out so well. Still, I enjoyed it in spite of all that, and hopefully you will too.
