Mr. Monk gets clingy
I found the episode very relatable. The persistent feeling that everybody is somehow speaking a different language, that everyone finds you useful or smart or interesting; they find you entertaining but because they're entertained by your quirks, they don't actually like you or want you around. And you get to see everybody around you fit into this world making it even more obvious that you don't. And however hard you try, it just doesn't make sense why.
And then someone comes along and tells you they like you as you are, and that doesn't make sense either, but you start hoping that maybe you've found your person, who also thinks of you that way. For the first time someone doesn't think you're weird, doesn't remind you you're weird, and makes you feel like you make sense. It's already so world-shattering you can't keep track of when the world actually starts falling apart. And then the other person tells you there's no way they'd be friends with you because of who you are.
This is where Monk finds himself, and thus he is very clingy and even reverting to child-like Monk in his reaction to this new found friend. It makes the reality of the situation as it is revealed to Monk that much more heartbreaking.
