Christmas spirit
evanekmaloney7 January 2007
A simple story about human redemption that is brilliantly realized on the screen thanks to stand-out performances from the entire cast and tight direction by Guadencio.

A workaholic engineer falls into construction site hole on Christmas Eve. Among the papers of his overturned briefcase he finds a letter. After reading it he is desperate to return to his wife. During the long and eventful journey home he learns a great deal about the human spirit.

Like a man turning water into wine, Guadencio was given a simple script and a budget of 7,000 Euro and, in just four days, he produced a gem of a film.

This guy is one to watch.

digging out a gem

The Hole is a simple yet brilliant short movie that's packed with more emotion and heart than is found in most full length movies.

The Scrooge-like tale of a workaholic finding what is important is one that has been done many times but here it feels fresh. Miguel Gaudencio directs this feature with passion and skilfully avoids using clichéd imagery normally associated with stories of Christmas. The central performance from Albano Jeronimo is an impressive mix showing extreme strength and hardness but turning it around for the audience to fall in love with his character when his vulnerable side is on display.

Overall this movie gets under your skin and makes you smile as it reminds you of things that are important in life. This clearly is a movie from an upcoming talent and rare gem of a film, if you can find it then you should watch it. I'm looking forward to what this film making team are going to do next!
