Michael Mann's Heat (1995) is showing November 11 - December 11, 2017 on Mubi in the United Kingdom.Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) emerges from a train with unassuming poise, mingling seamlessly with the other disembarking passengers. As they recede into the background, however, congealing into airy circular blurs of out-of-focus features, Neil becomes the obvious point of attention, even more so as the camera pulls back and follows his journey from a comparative distance. In the guise of a medic, he makes his way to a hospital and coasts through its thoroughfares, passing oblivious employees and patients, until he arrives at his destination: an ambulance, which he steals. Neil’s anonymity enabled the theft and it allowed for his inconspicuous progress. He fit in. He seemed natural. Wherever he went, he had the perceptible appearance of belonging. This is key to what distinguishes Heat, Michael Mann’s 1995 contemporary crime masterpiece. Capitalizing on...

Saturday Night Live opened with Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump turning the decision to select a top adviser into a reality competition.
The sketch opened with the president reminiscing about his first 100 days in the Oval Office and all that he's accomplished in that time, from getting nominating Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court to… not much else.
"Trump" also bragged about dropping the "mother of all bombs" on Syria – "It's so big and fat, it almost looks like me in my golf clothes" – as well as nearly Twitter-goading North Korea into war.

Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump pitted Steve Bannon (yet again represented as the Grim Reaper) against host Jimmy Fallon’s Jared Kushner on “SNL,” in an “Apprentice”-style elimintation face-off. The “Saturday Night Live” sketch started with Baldwin’s Trump discussing his list of accomplishments with Vice President Mike Pence, played by Beck Bennett. That portion of the sketch didn’t last long — Trump’s list began and ended with the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Trump’s discussed his other flubs, including refusing to shake the hand of “that little German boy,” as Trump put it — German Prime Minister Angela Merkel,...

Game Of Thrones, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, Westworld... Did your favourite TV episode of 2016 make the cut?
Earlier this month, twenty-five of Den Of Geek's writers nominated up to five of their favourite television episodes of the year, ranked in order of preference. Points were allocated. Favourites emerged. And the sanity of the site's TV editor was offered once again as a festive sacrifice to the God of Microsoft Excel worksheets.
See related Justin Kurzel interview: Assassin’s Creed
Over sixty individual episodes were nominated in total, and below are the fifteen that placed highest overall...
15. Scream season 2 episode 10 – The Vanishing
This show has hit a beautiful stride over the past two episodes, and we’re now set up for what could be a top-notch finale. While we’ve been given plenty of clues—some of which I’m sure will be forehead-slappers after the killer...

Let's say you're a six-person improv group — we'll call you "The Commune" — and you've been kicking around the New York City comedy scene for a while. You're drawing a decent crowd, playing the good nights in a Ucb-level venue downtown, and because you've been doing this together for so long, you're hitting maximum performer mind-meld onstage. Then one of your members gets recruited for an SNL-like show called Weekend Live. The rest of you are still left living gig to gig. What's a troupe to do?
That's the central premise of Don't Think Twice,...

When it was announced that Grimmy the Grim Reaper would be Stephen Colbert's final guest on The Colbert Report, fans speculated whether the future Late Show host was killing off his satirical character. Instead, Colbert's Colbert became immortal, and he closed out his nine-year Comedy Central run with a performance for the ages.
The host ended his Report with an all-star performance of Vera Lynn's "We'll Meet Again," featuring "We Are the World"-style appearances by an incredible cast of singers, actors, politicians and pundits. First out to...

“Folks, if this is your first time tuning into The Colbert Report, I have some terrible news for you.” With a mighty leap over the word “grippest,” Stephen Colbert began his final episode of The Colbert Report.
For the first half, it was actually a very normal episode, with talk of Syria, a shout-out to the Prescott Group, and a special “The Word” devoted to Colbert’s impact on television. Oh, and he also killed Death. Shooting Grimmy the Grim Reaper, he was rendered immortal. Your standard stuff. I’m pretty sure that’s how Jack Parr went off the air.
But it wasn’t all the fantastically self-important bombast we’ve loved since 2005. For starters, the auction Colbert held for his desk and fireplace earned over $313,000 for the Yellow Ribbon Fund. And, he thanked his audience, his “Nation,” for everything he’s done over the past nine years.

Neil Young is as busy as ever, promoting a new book, Special Deluxe: A Memoir of Life and Cars; an upcoming album, Storytone; and the heavily hyped Pono Music Player. Oh, and he's also trying to help save the planet by calling for an end to fracking. The rock legend dropped by The Colbert Report on Tuesday and discussed all of the above with host Stephen Colbert, whose ultra-conservative persona (naturally) took issue with just about everything Young had to say.
"Thank you for dressing up for the occasion," Colbert tells his guest.

Stephen Colbert and Neil Young dueled on guitars and American flag microphones to figure out “Who's Gonna Stand Up? (and Save the Earth)’ on Tuesday's ‘Colbert Report.” After a touching verse from the real singer/songwriter of the duet, imploring that rescuing the environment “all starts with you and me,” Colbert's Comedy Central character took the unpopular stance. “I know it feels good to save the Earth/but what if the dolphins attack us first?” Colbert sang. “Solar power is bound to fail/I say it's time we frack the whales.” See video: Stephen Colbert, the Grim Reaper Mark Final...

Interview Sarah Dobbs 6 Nov 2013 - 07:35
Sarah caught up with Simon Farnaby and Martha Howe-Douglas to talk Yonderland, Horrible Histories and Last of the Summer Wine...
Read our Yonderland interview with Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, here.
Apparently you start to get used to new smells after about ten minutes, and by the time Martha Howe-Douglas and Simon Farnaby dropped by the press table, the earthy, sweet smell of bark and leaves had started to seem normal. The massive troll puppet over Farnaby’s shoulder was still a bit distracting, though…
Howe-Douglas and Farnaby are also key members of the Horrible Histories cast, though you might also recognise her from Doctors or The Armstrong and Miller Show, and him from The Mighty Boosh or Jam & Jerusalem. They’re both playing important parts in Yonderland, too, and here’s what they had to say about it…
Martha, you’re the star of the show.
