- Today on The Electric Company, JJ says, "hot".
Oh no - Skip Hinnant is trapped in a creepy old house! And worse yet, an ominous voice is taunting him - if he gets out, he'll be the first, says the voice. Luckily, he's not too scared to introduce viewers to the first topic of the day: the letter H. The female cast (Rita Moreno, Judy Graubart, and Lee Chamberlin) demonstrate H words with the help of lettered hats in a vaudeville routine. Following their act, Moreno returns to the stage as Pandora the Brat singing about her favorite H word - "hate", as in, "I hate to play a game where there's a chance that I might lose!" (Such a word wouldn't be too appropriate for today's audience due to political connotations.) Then, the Very Short Book shows Sherlock Holmes (Hinnant) investigating some giant footprints - that are his own! Meanwhile, Hinnant is still searching for an exit but is met with a locked door, giving him an opportunity to introduce the next topic, the PR blend, which is shown later in an animation about Preston Proud, the Human Propeller. It's Spidey (Danny Seagren) to the rescue when PS 8 and a Half is plagued by a prankster who turns out to be Principal Prescott (Jimmy Boyd) in another PR demonstration. The word "prowl" shifts the focus from PR to OW as Hinnant, still trapped and now surrounded by ghosts, gives viewers one last introduction... and then finds out the ominous voice that's been following him was - who else - Morgan Freeman! Hinnant is relieved to find it's just a trick and the ghosts are just two of the kids... until Rejane Magloire and Rodney Lewis come in and prove them wrong! Scanimate words include "help" and "problem".
