The plot of this film bears some resemblances to the story of Mary Pinchot Meyer, a Georgetown socialite and artist who was murdered on October 12, 1964. In life, Mrs. Meyer was the ex-wife of the head of the CIA and had been having an affair with President John F. Kennedy.
The iconic Washington stairs that featured prominently in The Exorcist (1973) make an appearance at the end of the film.
The film's original title was "Boy of Pigs", a play on the Bay of Pigs incident that took place in Cuba and spearheaded the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Although set in Washington, the film was actually shot in Baltimore.
Not the first time young Cameron Bright has shared a semi-sexual scene with a much older woman. He also shared a bath with Nicole Kidman in Jonathan Glazer's Birth (2004). (Bright was 16 at the time of filming An American Affair (2008).)
