Warner Bros.’ “A Minecraft Movie” continues its domination at the U.K. and Ireland box office, topping the chart for a fourth straight weekend with £2.4 million ($3.3 million), according to Comscore. The film has amassed $68.7 million to date, firmly establishing itself as one of the biggest hits of 2025.

Close behind, Warner Bros.’ “Sinners” maintained its momentum, earning $3.2 million in its second weekend for a $9.6 million total.

In third place, the reissue of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith” from 20th Century Fox delivered a powerful showing earning $2.3 million over the weekend.

Another Warner Bros. title, “The Accountant 2,” opened in fourth with $1.2 million. The sequel to the 2016 action thriller, starring Ben Affleck, launched solidly ahead of the May blockbuster season.

For a second consecutive weekend, Sinners held the top spot of the box-office weekend. This weekend, however, was by a considerably larger margin than last weekend’s $4.3 million as it bested the second-place film this weekend by $19.8 million.

In its second weekend of release, Sinners made $45.0 million for Warner Bros. as it raised its two-week total to $122.5 million. Meanwhile, the twentieth anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith took second place with $25.2 million over the weekend. This brought the film’s overall gross to $405 million. Debuting in third place with $24.5 million was Amazon MGM Studios’ The Accountant 2. Just behind that, with $22.7 million, was last weekend’s second-place film, A Minecraft Movie, which dropped two spots but has still brought in $380.1 million for Warner Brothers. Debuting in fifth place with $8.0 million was the Screen Gems release Until Dawn.

Update April 27, 2025: Sinners continued its box-office domination over the April 25-27 weekend, defying expectations with an impressive $45 million haul. This marks only a 6 percent drop from its $48 million opening — an exceptional achievement for any film, but particularly rare within the horror genre, where box-office totals typically experience steep declines after opening weekend. So far, Sinners has grossed $122.5 million in North America.

Meanwhile, second place came from a galaxy far, far away: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith grossed $25.2 million from Disney's 20th anniversary re-release. That's an impressive feat for a film that has been readily accessible for two decades and is currently streaming on Disney+. The Accountant 2 settled for third place with $24.5 million, followed by A Minecraft Movie with $22.7 million, and Until Dawn with $8 million. While all the attention in recent weeks has been going to A Minecraft Movie and now Sinners, a low-key thriller has quietly been climbing up the box office charts. The Amateur is now among the five highest-grossing Hollywood films of the year, but unlike Minecraft and Sinners, it could hardly be considered a sure bet. Starring Rami Malek in the lead role, The Amateur proves that thrillers aimed at older men — think the audience that tunes in to Reacher and Bosch — shouldn’t be restricted to streaming.

With The Accountant 2 offering direct competition this week, however, The Amateur might soon run out of steam. The movie has grossed $33 million domestically and another $46 million from overseas markets, for a cumulative total of $80 million worldwide. The Amateur was produced on a reported budget of $60 million, which means that it needs to gross around $120 million worldwide to break even. This isn’t going to happen.

In the decade or so since its release, the action-thriller The Accountant has developed something of a cult following. This was one of the biggest reasons why they decided to put a sequel into production. The franchise's popularity among the masses is clearly reflected in the positive reactions that this week's The Accountant 2 has opened to. Starring Ben Affleck in the titular role, the movie is facing off at the domestic box office against the holdover hit Sinners, and is poised to put up a strong challenge thanks to its excellent audience reception.

The Accountant 2 was "certified fresh" on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes a couple of days ago, and appears to have settled at a solid 77% rating. But it's the film's 93% audience score that's truly worth writing home about. Thanks to this incredible achievement, The Accountant 2 has now earned the "verified hot" badge of honor on the platform.

Filmgoers are lauding the game-based A Minecraft Movie and the original thriller Sinners — a veritable feast of video games and vampires.

And memories are short. Two years ago at this moment studio chiefs were running for cover, film releases were canceled, strikes were looming and Warner Bros. announced that all its product would be released as streaming movies. The studio even came up with the perfect counterprogramming for Oppenheimer: It was called Coyote vs Acme, basking in the afterglow of Looney Tunes.

Then came the show-stopper: Emerging from the mist was a concept called Barbenheimer. A few critics threw up their hands until Tom Cruise promised to see Oppenheimer and Barbie back to back. Even Scorsese lent his endorsement. The Coyote had vanished into the pink cloud of Barbiedom.

A Minecraft Movie is set to enter its fourth full weekend in theaters, and the film has already passed yet another gargantuan box office milestone. At the time of writing, Minecraft has grossed a whopping $355 million in domestic markets and $372 million internationally, which has helped its global cumulative haul eclipse $725 million at the global box office. The Jack Black-led video game adaptation is already the highest-grossing movie of the year at the domestic box office after passing Captain America: Brave New World, and it has its sights set on becoming the highest-grossing video game movie ever. However, if A Minecraft Movie wants to pass The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it still needs to add around $630 million to its total, which could be a long shot as things are starting to slow down.

Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant (2016), written by Bill Dubuque, introduced Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck): a buttoned-down number-cruncher with a sideline as a vigilante avenger. It was a big enough hit for ‘Untitled Accountant Sequel’ to go immediately into development but it’s taken nearly a decade for that project to get off the back burner. Given how long it’s been, it’s an accomplishment that O’Connor and Dubuque call in so many of the original cast — the only absentee is Anna Kendrick, the civilian hero last time out — though you’d be forgiven for not quite remembering who they all are. Then again, it’s easy to pick up the threads between shoot-outs.

Michael B Jordan’s film enjoyed a 33% jump in box office collections during the first weekend. The word-of-mouth is visibly improving as it added 53 lakhs more to the kitty on day 6, as per Sacnilk.

The 6-day total concludes at 3.85 crore net, which is around 4.54 crores in gross earnings.

We may still be reeling from the season finale of The Wheel of Time, but don't worry, there's plenty more good fantasy television on the way this year. One of the biggest fantasy shows still to come down the pike in 2025 is The Witcher, which will be releasing its fourth season on Netflix. We don't have an exact release date yet, but unless there's a serious shake-up at Netflix, it will come sometime between now and December 31.

Update April 20, 2025: There’s a new box-office champion for the April 18-20 weekend. Ryan Coogler's Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, dominated the competition with a $45.6 million debut, securing the top spot. The vampire film not only exceeded projections but achieved something no other horror film has done before. As noted by Deadline, Sinners received an A grade from CinemaScore, the first time in the tracking firm's nearly 50-year history that a horror film has earned that rating from exit audiences. Lauded film and genre classics like A Quiet Place, The Lost Boys, and The Conjuring all managed A-minus scores. Not even the Oscar-winning Get Out could get higher than that. But Sinners, one of the best-reviewed films of the year and already drawing Oscar buzz, managed to make the grade, notching a new milestone.

The movie grossed around $14 million domestically, retaining a spot inside the top five of the domestic box office charts, as it successfully recovered its production budget theatrically. Not too long ago, director Steven Soderbergh’s similarly positioned Black Bag under-performed commercially, despite excellent reviews.

The marketplace isn’t conducive to mid-budget films aimed at adult audiences, despite the odd hit such as A Complete Unknown last year. But that movie, starring Timothée Chalamet, had Oscars attention going in its favor. The Amateur, on the other hand, comes across as a "Dad Movie" — the sort of thing that audiences might postpone watching until it hits the PVOD market.

Guillermo del Toro has directed several critically acclaimed movies, which have received several accolades. However, the filmmaker is also known for the troubled productions of his movies, and something similar happened when del Toro was directing his 2021 neo-noir horror film Nightmare Alley.

During an interview, del Toro spoke about having to halt the film’s production after completing half of the filming. Based on Friday’s gross of $19.2 million, Sinners looked to open to the latter figure, but a spike in walk-up Saturday business changed the landscape.

Sinners achieved its victory after earning near-perfect reviews and stellar audience scores. Overseas, it started off with $15.4 million from select markets, for a global total of $61 million.

But Disney seems to have done it with The Amateur. Less than a week into its theatrical run, the espionage thriller is set to out-gross Soderbergh's movie, and has managed to push star Rami Malek's career box office haul past a majestic mark. The Amateur opened with $15 million in its debut weekend domestically, and a little over $30 million worldwide.

It’s hardly been 24 hours after the Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 finale, but one of the show’s biggest stars has already addressed his future in the MCU. The latest Marvel Disney+ series returns Marvel Netflix veterans Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, both of whom have appeared in other projects like Echo earlier in the Multiverse Saga. Daredevil: Born Again also brought back Jon Bernthal to play The Punisher, and it was confirmed in the lead-up to Born Again that he would star in a solo Punisher project coming next year. D’Onofrio recently sat down with Variety to chat about the Daredevil: Born Again finale, and he addressed his potential role in the upcoming Punisher special and also spoke about its connections to Daredevil: Born Again:

This weekend promises to showcase one of the closest box office battles in recent memory, with both Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and A Minecraft Movie looking to take the top spot. While Easter Weekend means that family audiences will no doubt flock to see A Minecraft Movie this weekend, I think Coogler’s R-rated vampire epic is bound to eke out a win.

While tracking suggests a $35-40 million opening, I feel that Sinners will open closer to the $50 million range. One thing that I think forecasters aren’t counting on is how strong Coogler’s film is going to be with the same black family audience that turned his two Black Panther movies into box office smash hits. It was a surprisingly packed weekend at the box office, despite the fact that the previous weekend's champion, "A Minecraft Movie," managed to repeat atop the charts with another $80 million under its belt. At the same time, we had a handful of new movies opening this weekend including A24's war drama "Warfare," Rami Malek's action-thriller "The Amateur," and Blumhouse's new horror/thriller "Drop." However, it was an animated, faith-based movie starring Oscar Isaac that came out on top of the rest of the weekend's newcomers.

Angel Studios' "The King of Kings," an animated retelling of the story of Jesus based loosely on Charles Dickens' "The Life of Our Lord," opened to a bigger-than-expected $19.3 million domestically. That came very close to challenging "Sound of Freedom" ($19.6 million) for Angel's biggest opening weekend to date. That movie went on to become a word-of-mouth sensation, pulling in nearly $185 million domestically and more than $250 million globally.

With production underway on Lanterns, one of the most anticipated titles from the new Dcu slate, director James Haweshas offered fans a new peek at what to expect from the Hal Jordan and John Stewart-led series — and it sounds like a lot more than just True Detective with Green Lanterns. Oscar-winning composer Volker Bertelmann produced the music for the film, and Collider is thrilled to partner with 20th Century Studios to exclusively announce that the original motion picture soundtrack for The Amateur is officially out now. Bertelmann is best known for his work on All Quiet on the Western Front, the 2023 war epic that won four Oscars, including one to Bertelmann for Best Original Score. Bertelmann is also famous for working on Conclave, which was helmed by All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger. Bertelmann’s score was nominated for Conclave, but the award ultimately went to Daniel Blumberg for The Brutalist.

Korean sports drama The Match, which stars Lee Byung-hyun and Yoo Ah-in, topped the country’s weekend box office for a third consecutive week.

Released on March 26, The Match grossed an additional $2M over the past week, bringing its total box office gross to nearly $11.9M. The film has recorded over 1.8 million admissions since its premiere, according to data from the Korean Film Council.

The film is based on a real-life story about two of South Korea’s top Go players. The Match follows the journey of Cho Hoon-hyun (played by Lee), who discovers the young genius Lee Chang-ho (Yoo) and takes him under his wing at the height of his professional career.

The Match also stars Ko Chang-seok, Hyun Bong-sik, Moon Jeong-hee, and Kim Kang-hoon.
