Hard as it is to believe, there's only one season of Outlander left to watch. Seven seasons and 10 years in, the Starz show has become an institution, and star Caitriona Balfe assures us that the final season was a challenge to make. "It was such an emotional season to film," she told The Irish Star. "There were so many goodbyes to places and people that we loved and that we've loved for so long. I just really hope that it's a satisfying tribute to our fans, because we would never have been on air for that long without them."
Outlander is based on the book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon, about a World War II-era nurse who is transported back in time to the 18th century where she falls in love with a dashing Scottish highlander named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Seven seasons later, they're grandparents who...

For a second consecutive weekend, Sinners held the top spot of the box-office weekend. This weekend, however, was by a considerably larger margin than last weekend’s $4.3 million as it bested the second-place film this weekend by $19.8 million.
In its second weekend of release, Sinners made $45.0 million for Warner Bros. as it raised its two-week total to $122.5 million. Meanwhile, the twentieth anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith took second place with $25.2 million over the weekend. This brought the film’s overall gross to $405 million. Debuting in third place with $24.5 million was Amazon MGM Studios’ The Accountant 2. Just behind that, with $22.7 million, was last weekend’s second-place film, A Minecraft Movie, which dropped two spots but has still brought in $380.1 million for Warner Brothers. Debuting in fifth place with $8.0 million was the Screen Gems release Until Dawn.

Update April 27, 2025: Sinners continued its box-office domination over the April 25-27 weekend, defying expectations with an impressive $45 million haul. This marks only a 6 percent drop from its $48 million opening — an exceptional achievement for any film, but particularly rare within the horror genre, where box-office totals typically experience steep declines after opening weekend. So far, Sinners has grossed $122.5 million in North America.
Meanwhile, second place came from a galaxy far, far away: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith grossed $25.2 million from Disney's 20th anniversary re-release. That's an impressive feat for a film that has been readily accessible for two decades and is currently streaming on Disney+. The Accountant 2 settled for third place with $24.5 million, followed by A Minecraft Movie with $22.7 million, and Until Dawn with $8 million. After recording just two $100 million+ weekends in the first quarter of 2025, every weekend in April has successfully surpassed the $100 million milestone.

Ryan Coogler’s latest horror-thriller, Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, continues to perform well in its second week at the box office. It brought in a solid $45 million over the weekend, pushing its total to $122 million in just two weeks With a near-flawless 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear Coogler has once again delivered something special. The film’s staying power says a lot about its quality and the buzz surrounding it — audiences aren’t just showing up; they’re coming back for more. This kind of hold speaks volumes about the film’s quality and the buzz it has generated – audiences are clearly hooked! Making a powerful entrance at #2 is the 20th-anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Can you hear that? Pop! That’s the sound of champagne corks popping at Warner Bros in Burbank this morning. While last weekend’s $48 million opening for Sinners was viewed as solid, many in the industry wondered whether or not, with a soft international launch, the movie was poised to turn a profit. This weekend, the resounding answer is hell yes, with the film only dipping 6% in week 2 for a $45 million weekend, and a $122 million total. The A CinemaScore rating proves that word-of-mouth on Ryan Coogler’s vampire epic is terrific, with the movie looking like a shoo-in for a domestic total well north of $200 million. That’s a stunning number for an R-rated horror flick, although it seems to be playing more like an action blockbuster than anything else. Clearly, this will make WB a whole boatload of cash and only further enhance Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan...

While all the attention in recent weeks has been going to A Minecraft Movie and now Sinners, a low-key thriller has quietly been climbing up the box office charts. The Amateur is now among the five highest-grossing Hollywood films of the year, but unlike Minecraft and Sinners, it could hardly be considered a sure bet. Starring Rami Malek in the lead role, The Amateur proves that thrillers aimed at older men — think the audience that tunes in to Reacher and Bosch — shouldn’t be restricted to streaming.
With The Accountant 2 offering direct competition this week, however, The Amateur might soon run out of steam. The movie has grossed $33 million domestically and another $46 million from overseas markets, for a cumulative total of $80 million worldwide. The Amateur was produced on a reported budget of $60 million, which means that it needs to gross around $120 million worldwide to break even. This isn’t going to happen.

In the decade or so since its release, the action-thriller The Accountant has developed something of a cult following. This was one of the biggest reasons why they decided to put a sequel into production. The franchise's popularity among the masses is clearly reflected in the positive reactions that this week's The Accountant 2 has opened to. Starring Ben Affleck in the titular role, the movie is facing off at the domestic box office against the holdover hit Sinners, and is poised to put up a strong challenge thanks to its excellent audience reception.
The Accountant 2 was "certified fresh" on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes a couple of days ago, and appears to have settled at a solid 77% rating. But it's the film's 93% audience score that's truly worth writing home about. Thanks to this incredible achievement, The Accountant 2 has now earned the "verified hot" badge of honor on the platform.

Talk about turnarounds: Hollywood is getting high marks this week for two timely hits that are being devoured by Gen Z audiences worldwide.
Filmgoers are lauding the game-based A Minecraft Movie and the original thriller Sinners — a veritable feast of video games and vampires.
And memories are short. Two years ago at this moment studio chiefs were running for cover, film releases were canceled, strikes were looming and Warner Bros. announced that all its product would be released as streaming movies. The studio even came up with the perfect counterprogramming for Oppenheimer: It was called Coyote vs Acme, basking in the afterglow of Looney Tunes.
Then came the show-stopper: Emerging from the mist was a concept called Barbenheimer. A few critics threw up their hands until Tom Cruise promised to see Oppenheimer and Barbie back to back. Even Scorsese lent his endorsement. The Coyote had vanished into the pink cloud of Barbiedom.

A Minecraft Movie is set to enter its fourth full weekend in theaters, and the film has already passed yet another gargantuan box office milestone. At the time of writing, Minecraft has grossed a whopping $355 million in domestic markets and $372 million internationally, which has helped its global cumulative haul eclipse $725 million at the global box office. The Jack Black-led video game adaptation is already the highest-grossing movie of the year at the domestic box office after passing Captain America: Brave New World, and it has its sights set on becoming the highest-grossing video game movie ever. However, if A Minecraft Movie wants to pass The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it still needs to add around $630 million to its total, which could be a long shot as things are starting to slow down.

Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant (2016), written by Bill Dubuque, introduced Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck): a buttoned-down number-cruncher with a sideline as a vigilante avenger. It was a big enough hit for ‘Untitled Accountant Sequel’ to go immediately into development but it’s taken nearly a decade for that project to get off the back burner. Given how long it’s been, it’s an accomplishment that O’Connor and Dubuque call in so many of the original cast — the only absentee is Anna Kendrick, the civilian hero last time out — though you’d be forgiven for not quite remembering who they all are. Then again, it’s easy to pick up the threads between shoot-outs.

We may still be reeling from the season finale of The Wheel of Time, but don't worry, there's plenty more good fantasy television on the way this year. One of the biggest fantasy shows still to come down the pike in 2025 is The Witcher, which will be releasing its fourth season on Netflix. We don't have an exact release date yet, but unless there's a serious shake-up at Netflix, it will come sometime between now and December 31.
This is an important season for the series, since it will be the first time that the white-haired witcher Geralt of Rivia is played by Liam Hemsworth, after previous Geralt actor Henry Cavill stepped down following season 3. Changing a lead actor is always a challenge, and doubly so when they're as central to the series as Cavill's Geralt. Can The Witcher survive this change?
We shall see. Beyond Hemsworth's Geralt, The Witcher...

Ryan Coogler, the director behind "Black Panther" and "Creed," has proved himself as one of the most valuable and beloved directors in Hollywood. But while the filmmaker had asserted himself as a force to be reckoned with in the realm of franchises, his ability when it came to originals, in terms of delivering at the box office, was not a guarantee. That is no longer the case, however, as Coogler's latest, the original vampire flick "Sinners," had a downright stellar opening weekend.
Hailing from Warner Bros. and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, "Sinners" opened to $48 million domestically (per Deadline), outperforming "A Minecraft Movie" to claim the top spot on the charts. The movie also pulled in a fair amount of change overseas, giving it a $63.5 million global start. The South Korean box office welcomed a new leader as crime thriller “Yadang: the Snitch” opened in first place with $4.1 million, commanding 69.8% of weekend revenues.
Directed by Hwang Byeng-Gug and starring “Squid Game 2″ actor Kang Ha-neul, “Yadang: the Snitch,” is from the producers behind record-breaking hit “12:12 The Day” and “Inside Men.” It follows a professional informant called “yadang” who provides covert information about the drug world to prosecutors and police. When a drug bust at a party attended by high-profile second-generation VIPs leads to a dangerous conspiracy, the yadang must fight to survive. The film pairs Kang with “Exhuma” star Yoo Hai-jin and “The World of the Married” actor Park Hae-joon.

Update April 20, 2025: There’s a new box-office champion for the April 18-20 weekend. Ryan Coogler's Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, dominated the competition with a $45.6 million debut, securing the top spot. The vampire film not only exceeded projections but achieved something no other horror film has done before. As noted by Deadline, Sinners received an A grade from CinemaScore, the first time in the tracking firm's nearly 50-year history that a horror film has earned that rating from exit audiences. Lauded film and genre classics like A Quiet Place, The Lost Boys, and The Conjuring all managed A-minus scores. Not even the Oscar-winning Get Out could get higher than that. But Sinners, one of the best-reviewed films of the year and already drawing Oscar buzz, managed to make the grade, notching a new milestone.
Meanwhile, A Minecraft Movie — widely expected to win its third consecutive weekend — settled for second place with $41.3 million.

A new film tops the box-office weekend as Sinners debuted in first place taking the top spot by the slim margin of $4.3 million from last weekend’s top film.
In its first weekend of release, the Warner Bros. release of Sinners took in $45.6 million for the studio. This proved to be just enough to edge last weekend’s top film, A Minecraft Movie to second place where it brough in $41.3 million – also for Warner Bros. – in its third weekend of release, lifting its overall total to $344.6 million. Meanwhile, Angel Studios saw its offering of The King of Kings drop a spot to land in third place with $17.3 million in its second weekend of release, bringing its overall total to $45.3 million for the studio. In its second weekend of release, the 20th Century Studios product, The Amateur, fell from third to fourth place where it added $7.2 million, raising its overall total to $27.3 million for the studio.

Sinners not only sank its fangs into the weekend box office, but it surprisingly drew enough blood to even dethrone A Minecraft Movie. The Jason Momoa and Jack Black-led video game adaptation just missed out on repeating at No. 1 for the third weekend in a row, having made an estimated $41.3 million domestically. However, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s vampire flick won the No. 1 spot with an even more impressive opening-weekend take of $45.6 million. Sinners went on to make an additional $15.4 million internationally en route to a worldwide total of $61 million against a $90 million production budget.
Fans and critics alike were bewitched by Coogler and Jordan’s must-see vampire film. Sinners not only boasts a nearly perfect "Certified Fresh" 98% on the Tomatometer, but audiences’ reactions to the scary flick, which have been posted to Rotten Tomatoes, also resulted in a "Verified Hot" 97% Popcornmeter — formerly the Rt audience score.

A Minecraft Movie led the global box office for a third consecutive weekend, adding $100.3 million during the Easter holiday period. The Warner Bros. and Legendary title has now reached $720.8 million worldwide, including $376.2 million from international markets.
The video game adaptation continued to attract ticket sales across the school holiday frame, with overseas revenue dipping just 28% from the prior weekend. The UK remains the top-performing foreign territory, with a total of $59.2 million. Germany has reached $27.8 million, followed by Australia ($27.4 million), Mexico ($24.8 million), and China ($24 million). South Korea and Japan are still to release.
In China, where domestic productions dominate current box office rankings, A Minecraft Movie remains the only U.S. title in the top five, trailing Ne Zha 2 at $2.1 billion. Chinese regulators have announced plans to limit the number of Hollywood titles granted release, though no specifics have been disclosed.
Audience turnout for Minecraft saw limited declines or increases in several international territories.

Warner Bros continued to pull North American box office out of the doldrums as Ryan Coogler’s new vampire horror Sinners starring Michael B. Jordan arrived on an estimated $45.6m over Easter weekend and replaced stablemate A Minecraft Movie at the top of North American box office amid several firsts.

It looks like our box office predictions for the weekend ended up coming true after all. In a surprise reversal, Sinners, which looked like it was going to have to settle for a second-place debut at the Easter box office, rallied thanks to performing stronger-than-expected on Saturday evening. As it stands, Ryan Coogler’s vampire pic will dominate the weekend box office, with a $45.6 million gross compared to A Minecraft Movie’s still potent $41 million (in its third weekend). Boasting an amazing A CinemaScore rating, word of mouth may well propel Sinners to a stateside finish north of $100 million. Notably, this is the first time a horror film has ever gotten such a strong rating, with only movies like A Quiet Place 1 & 2 managing anything north of a B in the last decade. However, it will likely be up to foreign gross to see if the film ultimately turns a profit...

Sandwiched between the blockbusters Sinners and A Minecraft Movie, and a host of faith-based projects such as The King of Kings and The Chosen: Last Supper trilogy, the espionage thriller The Amateur continued to attract a very specific demographic to theaters in its second weekend of release. The movie grossed around $14 million domestically, retaining a spot inside the top five of the domestic box office charts, as it successfully recovered its production budget theatrically. Not too long ago, director Steven Soderbergh’s similarly positioned Black Bag under-performed commercially, despite excellent reviews.
The marketplace isn’t conducive to mid-budget films aimed at adult audiences, despite the odd hit such as A Complete Unknown last year. But that movie, starring Timothée Chalamet, had Oscars attention going in its favor. The Amateur, on the other hand, comes across as a "Dad Movie" — the sort of thing that audiences might postpone watching until it hits the PVOD market.

Guillermo del Toro has directed several critically acclaimed movies, which have received several accolades. However, the filmmaker is also known for the troubled productions of his movies, and something similar happened when del Toro was directing his 2021 neo-noir horror film Nightmare Alley.
During an interview, del Toro spoke about having to halt the film’s production after completing half of the filming. However, the pause resulted in the project stretching, which the director found hard to cope with. As a result, he turned to Steven Spielberg, and the latter inadvertently saved Nightmare Alley. Here is what del Toro had to say about his relationship with Spielberg during the period.

After a disappointing start to the year with two back-to-back under-performers at the box office — Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 and Barry Levinson’s The Alto Knights — Warner Bros. has rebounded in grand fashion. A couple of weeks ago, the studio delivered A Minecraft Movie, which broke opening weekend records and has since blazed past the half-billion mark worldwide. This week, W.B. delivered another over-performer in director Ryan Coogler’s genre-bending original movie Sinners, which reunites him with star Michael B. Jordan. Sinners took the top spot on the domestic box office charts this weekend, on the back of tremendous reviews and audience reception.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, more than found redemption at the Easter weekend box office. Ditto for Warner Bros.
In a surprise upset, the movie beat fellow Warners blockbuster A Minecraft Movie and topped the chart with an estimated $45.6 million from 3,308 theaters, including Imax screens, well ahead of an expected $40 million. Based on Friday’s gross of $19.2 million, Sinners looked to open to the latter figure, but a spike in walk-up Saturday business changed the landscape.
Sinners achieved its victory after earning near-perfect reviews and stellar audience scores. Overseas, it started off with $15.4 million from select markets, for a global total of $61 million.
Not that Minecraft, now in its third weekend, is any slouch as it jumped the $700 million mark globally. Based on early weekend grosses, it appeared the record-breaking video game adaptation would stay No. 1 with $45 million. Instead, it’s on course to take in $41.3 million...

It’s a Warner Bros. weekend at the box office, with the studio taking the top two slots on domestic charts. Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller “Sinners” seems to be coming short of the firepower needed to knock off the megasmash “A Minecraft Movie” for first place. But “Sinners” still launched with a solid $19.2 million gross across Friday and preview screenings, playing 3,308 venues. That puts it on pace to beat out Warner’s own projections for a three-day opening of $40 million.
“Sinners” also gets a boost from luxury ticket prices for Imax, including 70mm showtimes. Warner Bros.’ marketing campaign has heavily emphasized the premium format and the production’s employment of Imax cameras on-set — a technical flourish that’s largely been associated with the films of Christopher Nolan in recent years. It takes a lot to sell a movie to adult audiences these days, especially one that doesn't feature A-listers. Even Steven Soderbergh's Black Bag struggled commercially, despite the involvement of Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, and near-unanimous praise from critics. But Disney seems to have done it with The Amateur. Less than a week into its theatrical run, the espionage thriller is set to out-gross Soderbergh's movie, and has managed to push star Rami Malek's career box office haul past a majestic mark. The Amateur opened with $15 million in its debut weekend domestically, and a little over $30 million worldwide.
It has now passed the $35 million mark at the global box office, against a reported budget of around $60 million. Black Bag also cost about as much, but received significantly superior reviews. It’s hardly been 24 hours after the Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 finale, but one of the show’s biggest stars has already addressed his future in the MCU. The latest Marvel Disney+ series returns Marvel Netflix veterans Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, both of whom have appeared in other projects like Echo earlier in the Multiverse Saga. Daredevil: Born Again also brought back Jon Bernthal to play The Punisher, and it was confirmed in the lead-up to Born Again that he would star in a solo Punisher project coming next year. D’Onofrio recently sat down with Variety to chat about the Daredevil: Born Again finale, and he addressed his potential role in the upcoming Punisher special and also spoke about its connections to Daredevil: Born Again:
"We have to see what the one-off thing that they’re planning on doing with the Punisher, that should be interesting to see.

This weekend promises to showcase one of the closest box office battles in recent memory, with both Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and A Minecraft Movie looking to take the top spot. While Easter Weekend means that family audiences will no doubt flock to see A Minecraft Movie this weekend, I think Coogler’s R-rated vampire epic is bound to eke out a win.
While tracking suggests a $35-40 million opening, I feel that Sinners will open closer to the $50 million range. One thing that I think forecasters aren’t counting on is how strong Coogler’s film is going to be with the same black family audience that turned his two Black Panther movies into box office smash hits. While the R-rating will limit business somewhat, older kids and their parents will for sure go see this one, while the movie is also pretty much guaranteed significant crossover success among horror fans,...

It was a surprisingly packed weekend at the box office, despite the fact that the previous weekend's champion, "A Minecraft Movie," managed to repeat atop the charts with another $80 million under its belt. At the same time, we had a handful of new movies opening this weekend including A24's war drama "Warfare," Rami Malek's action-thriller "The Amateur," and Blumhouse's new horror/thriller "Drop." However, it was an animated, faith-based movie starring Oscar Isaac that came out on top of the rest of the weekend's newcomers.
Angel Studios' "The King of Kings," an animated retelling of the story of Jesus based loosely on Charles Dickens' "The Life of Our Lord," opened to a bigger-than-expected $19.3 million domestically. That came very close to challenging "Sound of Freedom" ($19.6 million) for Angel's biggest opening weekend to date. That movie went on to become a word-of-mouth sensation, pulling in nearly $185 million domestically and more than $250 million globally.

With production underway on Lanterns, one of the most anticipated titles from the new Dcu slate, director James Haweshas offered fans a new peek at what to expect from the Hal Jordan and John Stewart-led series — and it sounds like a lot more than just True Detective with Green Lanterns. Hawes, while walking the red carpet for the premiere of his new thriller The Amateur, took a moment to speak to The Hollywood Reporter about his other high-profile gig: directing the first two episodes of Lanterns for HBO.
And while comparisons to True Detective have been tossed around since the show's initial announcement, Hawes insists there's more emotional range — and even some unexpected humor — at play within the cosmic chaos and crime set to unfold.

Bertelmann is also famous for working on Conclave, which was helmed by All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger. Bertelmann’s score was nominated for Conclave, but the award ultimately went to Daniel Blumberg for The Brutalist.

A Minecraft Movie has completed its second weekend in theaters with a behemoth box office total. The video game adaptation led by Jack Black added another $80 million to its domestic box office total this weekend, and it now sits at $280 million at the domestic box office. Pair that with $269 million internationally, and the film has earned just over $550 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of the year. This $280 million at the domestic box office is enough to make Minecraft one of the top 25 highest-grossing Warner Bros. movies ever, sitting at #24 at the time of writing after recently passing The Hangover. A Minecraft Movie has also out-earned Captain America: Brave New World at the box office after less than two full weeks in theaters.
