Grange Hell
Having finished with "Beasts", the IMDB suggested LWT's "The Frighteners" as another anthology series to try and I found "The Classroom" on YouTube. Ironically, there was another link between this and the last episode of "Beasts" I watched, with Clive Swift appearing in both.
On her last evening as a teacher, Miss Smith (Patience Collier) has been enjoying the warm support of her colleagues and some former pupils. Once everyone else has gone, as Miss Smith is collecting her things, Machen (Clive Swift) another former student of hers enters the room. His memories of her are not as positive as some of the others, and soon he explains that she made his life hell and it has had lasting effects. Machen now has a plan for revenge.
A little underwhelmed with this. It wasn't bad, by any means and the performances and direction are OK. I just think that the resolution could have done with a little more to sell it. Essentially, Machen has never moved on from being that boy in the class room, but still perhaps could have sold changes in him further, regressed his mannerisms rather than just his speech a little more when Miss Smith turns the tables on him. That she would turn the tables was perhaps a little predictable, Collier mannerisms don't suggest she's a woman to be trifled with, so when she opens up - the story is about whether she means it, or whether she's just saving her life and leads to what I would imagine was a surprisingly bleak finish, particularly for 1972.
Not enormously memorable, but I'll keep going with the series.
