The film posters displayed in Ashfaque/Sameer Khan's display room are actually Ajay Devgn's own films over the years. You can also see Ajay's photo of the time he received his second National Award for The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002) from the then President of India APJ Abdul Kalam in 2003.
The film was inspired by many real events. The Jessica Lall murder case, Aamir Khan's involvement with the Narmada Bachao Andolan, the Right to Information Act, and public participation in fighting corruption. It also references the theatre group Jan Natya Manch, whose leader, theatre activist Safdar Hashmi, was killed by political rivals while performing a street play by the same name, Halla Bol!, in 1989. Vidya Balan who starred in this film later played Sabrina Laal, the elder sister of Jessica Laal in No One Killed Jessica(2011).

The plaques and awards displayed in Ashfaque/Sameer Khan's home office are actually Ajay Devgn's own awards won over the years. You can see Silver Jubilee (25 weeks) plaques for Ajay's films Vijaypath (1994), Dilwale (1994) etc. displayed in the showcase of his home office.
