Cheap, derivative TV that requires no brain power and offers no surprises
STAR RATING: ***** Saturday Night **** Friday Night *** Friday Morning ** Sunday Night * Monday Morning
A group of D list celebs spend two weeks at a beauty parlour in Swansea, learning the ropes including facials, body waxes, aromatherapy and various other aspects to the job, making new friends and ruffling some feathers along the way.
This format is pure simple TV and found it's place perfectly late at night on Channel 5. There's nothing to see that you haven't seen before in the countless other 'celebrity' shows trotted out on the mainstream channels every year and it's telling in just how boring it actually all is. The only interesting thing is watching feisty northern lass Michelle Marsh get catty but even she fails to deliver. The other long forgotten former soap/pop stars trying to revive their careers certainly don't add anything of interest either.
Overall, this is just desperate and cynical TV of the lowest order. The arguments appear forced, the participants aren't very interesting and the whole set-up never veers out of formula. That it still doesn't really entertain even on the trashy level it set out to should be an indication that people are getting tired of these types of cheap, patronizing shows. **
