- Arzon and Leoric free the other Spectral Knights while the Darkling Lords are fighting, and restore Feryl's totem. The resulting fight confirms that Ectar and Feryl share Reekon's and Mortredd's power. Just before starting forced labor in a factory, the Darkling Lords, who have their power staffs taken, are given a magical key by Merklynn. While most of the Spectral Knights approach Merklynn for assistance for the barren land while they recharge their staffs, the Darkling Lords escape and try to kill them on Iron Mountain. Ectar warns them, but Merklynn refuses to let them continue their confrontation around him. He lets them repower their staffs but demands that in return they retrieve the Dragon's Eye for him. The Spectral Knights agree but the Darkling Lords go only after an attack on him fails, and at an abandoned building, both are attacked by a mechanical dragon controlled by the wizard wielding the Eye, Falkama.—brainybrailler@comcast.net
- Reekon asks Darkstorm how he is going to divide the booty from the Darkling Lords' conquest of the Spectral Knights. When Darkstorm replies that as the leader he will be claiming all the spoils, Reekon makes it clear that he has no intention of turning over all his money. Lexor then mutters to Cravex about how unfair it is that they should get nothing for all their hard work, hoping to provoke Cravex into turning on Darkstorm. However, the first person to wind up on the wrong end of Cravex's anger is Lexor whose claim, when he is challenged by Darkstorm, that he was talking about how shocked he was by Reekon's insubordination causes Cravex to berate him for his cowardice and punch him in the face. Cravex then turns on each of his fellow Darkling Lords in turn, causing them to start fighting among themselves.
In their flooded cell, the Spectral Knights are struggling to stay afloat when Arzon spots an opening in the ceiling. Assuming his Eagle form, he flies through the opening, taking Leoric with him; a guard sees the escape and blows a horn to sound the alarm. Outside the Spectral Knights' cell, Leoric and Arzon find several guards gathered in front of the door. Leoric shouts at them to get after the escaped prisoners and most of them do so, but one of them recognises Leoric and Arzon as two of the prisoners who were locked in that very cell. Leoric assumes his Lion form and hooks the ring containing the keys to the cells off the guard's waist. Arzon then uses one of the keys to unlock the cell door.
Once all the Spectral Knights have been freed from the cell, Leoric says they will have to restore Feryl's Totem power, retrieve their weapons and round up the Darkling Lords. Ectar and Feryl go to the Dagger Assault where Ectar succeeds in restoring Feryl's Totem, before the two of them go to join the others. All seven Spectral Knights then go to confront the Darkling Lords, most of whom are still fighting each other as Mortdredd asks them why they are questioning Darkstorm's rule, though his words are being ignored. Seeing the Spectral Knights, Darkstorm tries to use his Power of Decay on them, only to find that all the Power Staffs are exhausted. Faced with this, he orders the Darkling Lords to evacuate. However, Leoric reasons that if Reekon and Mortdredd can activate vehicles Ectar and Feryl should have the same ability, and the Spectral Knights acquire two magical vehicles of their own, the Capture Chariot (piloted by Feryl) and the Lancer Cycle (piloted by Ectar). With their new vehicles to even the odds, the Spectral Knights quickly capture the Darkling Lords and put them to work in a factory. However, unknown to the Spectral Knights, Merklynn has given Darkstorm a magic key which he says will free the Darkling Lords from their bonds.
Shortly after, the Spectral Knights learn that the local farmers are having problems with their harvest; the farmers say they have tried everything they can think of, but they still can't get their crops to grow. Arzon suggests the problems might be connected to the Age of Magic, so Merklynn might be able to help. Leoric says the Spectral Knights will set out the next day, promising that they will not return without a solution.
The following day, six of the Spectral Knights head for Iron Mountain, Ectar having volunteered to stay and guard the Darkling Lords. However, when Ectar leaves the Darkling Lords unguarded for a moment, Darkstorm uses Merklynn's key to free himself and his cronies. Learning of the Darkling Lords' escape, Ectar hurries to Iron Mountain where the Darkling Lords are preparing to send rocks crashing down on the Spectral Knights. Ectar shouts a warning to his friends, moments before Darkstorm gives the order to let the rocks fall. Thanks to Ectar's warning, the Spectral Knights avoid the rocks, but they are unable to prevent the Darkling Lords from retrieving their Power Staffs, which the Spectral Knights had planned to trade in exchange for magic to help the farmers.
In Merklynn's Shrine, Darkstorm says he and his followers have exhausted their magic fighting the Spectral Knights, whom he claims are evil. In response, the Spectral Knights draw their weapons and a fight starts to brew, but Merklynn says he will not allow fighting in the Shrine, adding that the feud between the two factions of Visionaries is of no concern to him. He then says that the Visionaries must bring him the Dragon's Eye in exchange for more magic, before giving their Power Staffs a free recharge. The Spectral Knights set off on the quest, but the Darkling Lords stay behind and try to use the magic of their Staffs against Merklynn, only for Merklynn to use his magic orb to send the entities which inhabit each Staff back into the Staffs. After Merklynn also thwarts an attempt by the Darkling Lords to attack him themselves, Darkstorm and his followers are left with no choice but to join the quest.
The Visionaries arrive at an old industrial complex where they see a giant techno-dragon being piloted by a wizard named Falkama, who is holding the Dragon's Eye in his hand. Falkama tells the techno-dragon to attack the Visionaries and it starts scooping them up and lifting them towards its mouth. As he, Galadria and Cravex are lifted up, Cryotek tries to uses his Power of Strength against the dragon, only for the arrow fired by the magical archer he summons to bounce right off. At Galadria's urging, Cravex summons the Spider of Fear whose bite disrupts the dragon's circuitry, causing it to drop the Visionaries. Witterquick uses his Power of Speed to catch up with Falkama and demands the Dragon's Eye; in response, Falkama throws the Dragon's Eye and, while the Visionaries are busy trying to catch it, tries to make good his escape.
Eventually Witterquick catches the Dragon's Eye, and he and his fellow Spectral Knights head back to Merklynn's Shrine, where Merklynn (who needs the Dragon's Eye to recharge the magic pool in his Shrine) agrees to give them the magic they need to provide relief to the stricken farms. Meanwhile, the Darkling Lords capture Falkama whom Darkstorm says may be of use to them later. Merklynn gives the Spectral Knights a supply of magical seeds which, when sown, quickly sprout into fully grown plants.
