Squid orgy!
I saw this episode of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" when I was a kid, but I seem to recall it being broadcast (or re- broadcast) around 1972-3--not the 1970 date listed on IMDb. No matter--it's still a really good show and is available to watch for free on the internet.
This show has a much tighter focus than most in the series. Although you see a bit of Blue Sharks, Pilot Whales, Spiny Starfish and a few other species, the vast majority of the film is about the Sea Arrow--the common squid found in Pacific waters. It seems that the Calypso happened upon a really amazing sight--millions and millions (perhaps more) of these squid coming to one place for one reason. They are there to reproduce and, in the process of this frenzied activity, literally kill themselves! Seeing millions of squid copulating like crazy is fascinating as well as the egg-laying that follows. While seeing a squid super-orgy may not sound fascinating, it is and the film never is dull! Well worth seeing.
