Michael Collins: [telling Rosie how he and Matthew accidentally broke the deli window and the mural] It was an accident.
Lydnsey 'Lyndz' Collins: [narrating] It was a typical M&M mess, but Michael had sworn me to secrecy, so I hadn't been able to tell Rosie myself.
[a flashback reveals that Matthew and Michael were kicking a soccer ball down the sidewalk and Matthew accidentally kicks it into the deli window, breaking the glass and the mural]
Rosie Cartwright: Well, why didn't you just tell the Di Pieris what happened?
Matthew McDougal: Because we just watched them tell half of Crescent Bay how much they loved it. We just... couldn't.
Rosie Cartwright: So you decided to steal it instead?
Michael Collins: We figured that if we took it, we could get it fixed. Then we could return it.
Matthew McDougal: We thought the Di Pieris would be less likely to kill us if we got it back in one piece.
Michael Collins: That was before we lost a piece somewhere along the beach track.
Rosie Cartwright: What about the police?
Lydnsey 'Lyndz' Collins: Rosie, you can't tell them. It was an accident. The boys will fix it and return it.
Rosie Cartwright: But then I'm back to where I was before. No story. And no story means no article, and no article means... no student cadetship.
Lydnsey 'Lyndz' Collins: [narrating] All of a sudden, Rosie saw other careers looming.
[to Michael]
Lydnsey 'Lyndz' Collins: You better fix that mural fast.
