TollywoodThe director is also scouting for another hero to play the villain.Digital NativeDigital NativeHaving worked on the magnum opus Baahubali for well over five years, director SS Rajamouli churned out two blockbusters Baahubali: the Beginning and Baahubali: the Conclusion. With both these films turning out to be mega grosser, the director is now all set to move over to his next. Quite a few days ago it was announced that Ram Charan Teja and Jr Ntr would be playing the lead role in this multi-starrer and groundwork for it has begun already. The film will be penned by SS Rajamouli’s dad and noted writer K V Vijayendra Prasad who was instrumental in conceiving Baahubali and the characters in it. While the pre-production has begun already and the two lead stars have been picked up, we hear that the director is scouting for another hero to play the villain. Apparently, this is a meaty and high-performance oriented role and SS Rajamouli wants to rope in a well-known hero for it. The selection process is through and we can expect the director to make an announcement soon. SS Rajamouli, an acclaimed filmmaker, made his debut with the 2001 release Student No.1 and is one of the highly successful directors in the Indian film industry. Apart from Baahubali, which is one of the biggest hits in his career, he has films like Simhadri, Vikramarkudu, Yamadonga, high fantasy works such as Magadheera, Eega and Maryada Ramanna to his credit. It may be mentioned here that Baahubali turned out to be so popular that it was released in various international languages such as German, Italian, French, Chinese, Japanese etc. With the news that the ace director has roped in Jr Ntr and Ram Charan for his next and there would be more additions to the star cast, fans just can’t want to know more about it.

Though she had two back to back Hindi releases in the form of Humshakals and Entertainment, she hadn't signed any new Hindi film. Hence, one wondered about her career plans ahead. However, Tamannaah Bhatia continues to be one busy girl. She is back in South shooting for as many as three films, which are in different stages of production, hence ensuring that she would be pretty much occupied for next 10-12 months at the least. One is a Telugu film Aagadu where she is opposite none other than superstar Mahesh Babu. Even bigger is her bilingual film (in Tamil and Telugu) Baahubali which is pitched as the biggest and the costliest film to be coming out of South. It is directed by S.S. Rajamouli whose Vikramarkudu and Maryada Ramanna were remade as Rowdy Rathore and Son of Sardaar while another blockbuster Magadheera is set to be made in Hindi too.

Call it the Kochadaiiyaan effect but at least a couple of top Bollywood heroines are looking at heading south for a biggie. To be directed by S.S. Rajamouli of Eega [dubbed as Makhi], Magadheera, Maryada Ramanna and Vikramarkudu [remade as Rowdy Rathore] fame, the film in question - Baahubali - is being conceptualised as a Telugu-Hindi-Tamil trilingual.Just like Kochadaiiyaan where the makers (Rajinikanth's family) were sure that a Bollywood heroine would be front facing the...

The South influx into Bollywood has gathered momentum. After Dhanush's successful Hindi debut in Aanand Rai's Raanjhanaa and Ramcharan's Zanjeer that opens in September, it would be the turn of Ramcharan's nearest rival in Hyderabad, Ravi Teja. Ravi Teja would debut in a double role in Samir Karnik's Kaur & Singh. The film would be an action-comedy (Ravi Teja's forte) in Hindi and Telugu. The Telugu version of the film would be entitled Laxmi Reddy. Confirming these developments, director Samir Karnik says, "Ravi has done a very successful double role in Vikramarkudu, the Telugu version of Rowdy Rathore. We wanted to take his image to another level." While Karnik refuses to reveal any more, we gather that Ravi Teja plays two brothers in Kaur & Singh. One of them is a con-man who constantly gets the good brother into trouble. Says Karnik, "I promise you, Ravi Teja will...

Having watched Vikramarkudu a couple of years back and thoroughly enjoyed it, I was a bit skeptical regarding its Hindi remake. For me, Vikram Rathod could only be Ravi Teja (the role seemed tailor made for him) and I prayed that Akshay would do justice to the characters. My only hope was Prabhu Deva, who has quite an experience with remakes, be it Telugu to Tamil, Tamil to Hindi, Hindi to Telugu…
Yes, Rowdy Rathore is your typical no brainer, ‘masala’ (the second most abused term after ‘rom-com’) flick aimed at the masses. Shiva (Akshay Kumar) is a street smart crook who makes his living by stealing. Until he meets Paro (Sonakshi Sinha) and falls in love with her. Having promised to give up his old ways, Shiva suddenly becomes the target of weird happenings as a little girl insists he is her father, a cop keeps a constant watch on him,...

The week gone by saw unleashing of the anthem number in Rowdy Rathore that goes as 'Chinta Ta Chita Chita'. While the hook-line has caught instant attention amongst the masses, what also raised eyebrows amongst film aficionados was the fact that it is more than just similar to 'Zinta Ta Zita Zita'. It is not just a coincidence that the song belongs to the film Vikramarkudu of which Rowdy Rathore is a remake. "It is apparent that it isn't just the film but even the theme song that has been remade here. In Vikramarkudu, the song appears at various junctures in the film and it isn't just Ravi Teja, the film's lead, on whom the song appears but even Anushka Shetty who performed on it towards the pre-climax. Now it's the turn of Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha to bring this on", informs a film buff. However, before one is...

I expected to be impressed by the promo for Prabhu Deva's upcoming Rowdy Rathore, but not this impressed! Rowdy Rathore is the Bollywood remake of S.S. Rajamouli's (Magadheera, Yamadonga) Vikramarkudu, which was original a hit in the Telugu film industry that starred personal favorite Ravi Teja in the lead role. Two years ago Vikramarkudu was remade in Tamil as Siruthai, starring Karthi and did well, but nowhere near the Telugu numbers. After the success of the film in two other languages and considering the huge resurgence in old-school masala films in Bollywood exemplified by Salman Khan's recent successes, it was inevitable that Vikramarkudu would come to Bollywood, and it looks fucking sharp!Rowdy Rathore has a wonderful pedigree behind it, with numerous extremely talented filmmakers and...

It's going to be a big summer for Tollywood box office king, S.S. Rajamouli! First up will be the incredible looking Bollywood remake of his Telugu film Vikramarkudu, Rowdy Rathore. Then, later in the summer, his latest big budget venture Eega will be hitting screens. For several months we've all just known that it was to involve a CGI fly as a main character, but were left to speculate on the nature of the film. This first trailer gives a pretty awesome look at the film's tone and basic plot, and I love it so far.Rajamouli is one of very few directors in Tollywood with a consistent record of high quality output. All of his films have been great successes, and many of the more...

Remakes of a remake are not new to b-town. Multiple remakes too are not new. But in most cases, there is a conscience effort to release the films with a good amount of time in between so each film gets its share of the success pie. Yet in the case of Telugu film Vikramarkudu, after being remade in Tamil and Kannada, it is when the film is remade by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with Prabhu Deva in the directors chair that we have a competition of sort brewing.
Starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha titled Rowdy Rathore, the Bengali version of the film titled Bikram Singha is making haste to be ready and released before the Hindi version. Something that it’s lead actor Prosenjit Chatterjee openly admits when speaking to the Mumbai Mirror. “We’re indeed doing a Bengali remake of the same Telugu film that Rowdy Rathore has been adapted from.

Film: ‘Maryada Ramanna’; Director: S.S. Rajamouli; Cast: Sunil, Saloni, Brahmaji, Nagineedu, Supreeth and Kanchi; Music: M.M. Keervani; Rating:***1/2
Telugu director S.S. Rajamouli has an enviable record of all his seven films being hits. And he adds another feather to his cap with ‘Maryada Ramanna’, which features comedy actor Sunil as the hero.
‘Maryada Ramanna’ is quite different from all his previous commercial hits, which include ‘Simhadri’, ‘Magadheera’ and ‘Vikramarkudu’, that.
