Whoever's Right, Sweeney's Wrong
A chance to see the late Johnny Briggs in a regular role other than Mike Baldwin.
He plays Det. Sgt. Russell who wants to help reform habitual criminal Tom Sweeney.
Det. Chief Supt. Tom Lockhart has no time for Russell's spot of social work. He has criminals to catch and one of them is a gang that is breaking into safes for the wages cash.
The latest one has left a security guard severely injured who late dies.
A half eaten chocolate bar has led the police to identify Georgie Dyson.
Lockhart hopes to get Sweeney's help who is soon to be released and is in the same prison as Dyson. Maybe Sweeney can get information out of Dyson about his associates.
It is a nice episode that explores how small time cons such as Sweeney become institutionalised. Adhering to a code of not grassing on your fellow criminals even if does not benefit them in the long run.
Meanwhile Lockhart is now so cynical of the criminal justice system. He cannot see Russell is trying to make a difference by seeing Sweeney as human.
There is nice bit of action at the end of the episode as the police home in on the safecrackers with Sweeney in danger.
